In many ways, a new stadium makes the most sense, but it would be rather sad.

My preference would be the 'overhaul' option with the new south stand, with the existing stadium kept, similar to the Bernabeu renovation. The logistics are pretty challenging, though.

I've never been but the general impression I get from fans that do go and go to other large football stadiums is that it's not really up to scratch.
If they reckon they can find the money for the investment and that it will increase the value of the club more than it will cost then I don't see why they wouldn't do it.

It seemed like they would have been quite happy to allow the stadium to continue as was until the protests happened and prompted them to promise improvements. Given that, I would have thought they'd be more inclined towards more superficial improvements that would quickly satisfy that promise and allow them to continue on as much as before as possible.

If they were really interested in trying to increase the value of the club in that way then they could have moved in that direction at any point before they were bounced into it. But their general approach seemed to be to do as little as they could get away with and I'm sceptical as to whether that outlook has actually altered at all.

Who pays? How is the budget to be realized?
And whilst all this revamping is going on, do we get to buy a player or two? Or am I to assume, if that's the case, that the Joel et al are going to foot the bill ( be nice for a change )?

The club will surely borrow the money.

If they go for the third option I'll be disgusted.

At the very least South Stand needs redoing and a general modernisation aswell

I mean, I can see them doing up the corporate wanker boxes. Would be very surprised if anything else happened.

Update the public areas and replace the roof with something of the 21st century.

If the South Stand can be redone then great, but if not, doing the above would be a good start.

The upper quadrants would be more visible. Not nice.

How about this.

BoJo sanctions City and gives us the Emptihad to play in whilst we rebuild OT and when the new stadium is ready the Emptihad can be the new home for our womens and U23's teams. City can play at Leigh Sports Village where they may sell out a game or two if they are playing a big club.

Honestly at one stage or another it'll all need rework so it's not a bad option.

I'm just afraid they'll do option 3 which is essentially nothing.

At the very least the entire South Stand needs redoing.

Bet it doesn’t happen but I can’t say I’d be against the idea

Of course the South Stand can be done. And it has to be for this to be an acceptable project.

If they come out with a line that it is cost prohibitive or impossible then that's a load of nonsense because there are many stadiums in the world now that are built over train tracks.

Some Gullible suckers will lap this up and actually believe them.

Would bet my house that they don’t re-build even one stand. This is the tactic they do for years, always drop stories about ‘considering’ or ‘planning’. People who actually do stuff just do it, they don’t talk about it for years or wait for a riot in their stadium. They are con artists of the highest level, hence their leveraged buyout and sale of shares ever since.

Your distrust of the Glazers is understandable but let's be clear here. A project of this size takes time to get underway. RFPs go out and bids are tendered, then reviewed. You need approval from local government as well. The process takes a long time and there will be some wind of it in the press because Manchester United putting out a request for propsals to redevelop or rebuild Old Trafford is going to get noticed and because it's United, it's newsworthy. So by all means make comments about the Glazers and the (un)likelihood of them spending any of their own money to do this but don't come here and tell us that the process is a 'just do it' kind of thing that goes under the radar, because it's not.

A rebuild will be disastrous for us. Will cost well north of a billion pounds which will be added on to the glazer debt.

We have a pretty large stadium which is really old. We can spend half money it would require for a full rebuild on gutting and modernizing the internals and also giving the outside a facelift

To be fair Liverpool are flying along with their rebuilds.

Done one then approved a second sharpish. Shows what having an actual intent to do something can achieve

Oh I agree totally. Our old national stadium had it's biggest stand built over a railway track in 1872.

But if they're not prepared to spend what it takes to do it, I'd prefer what I said above to them knocking it down and building an Emirates or a Cheesebowl.

How much would a total rebuild cost? A billion pounds? That’s not happening with the parasites in charge.

They still have to go through a process. It may appear faster from the outside looking in but it's not. They will have been doing it for a long time, too.

Intent is obviously important but no organization that wants to spend that kind of money on a project jumps at the first proposal.

It is the last authentic thing left in our club, and they want to take this away!

Just an attempt to get the brand back in the papers, Chelsea, for better or worse, are hogging the clubs limelight. There's more chance of rebuilding the lost city of Atlantis than there is of the Glazers rebuilding Old Trafford.

Could we not have something like St James Park? I always think that roof looks much better.

The roof is an integral part of the structure. I'm sure an engineer will correct me though. My gripe is with the way the upper quadrants look. They're so ad hoc.

It's pretty old but overall it's far better than most other stadiums, I've not been to Spurs yet and obviously it's supposed be fantastic but other than that give me Old Trafford over any other ground in the country. Wembley is utter shite and genuinely one of my least favourite stadiums at any level, Emirates is a classic soulless bowl, Newcastle is just weird as feck, Etihad is shite and feels older than OT, Anfield has character but obviously I'm not keen but I'd rather do what they are doing than flatten the place. The roof needs doing obviously but in terms of wow factor there's nowhere else like it in this country. I've got mates who follow seven or eight different clubs and Old Trafford is their favourite stadium in the league.

We should just work a deal out to go on tour with the WWE (or whatever they call themselves these days) playing a different stadium every weekend. Maybe a few of our players could find a new path where faking it is actively encouraged.

It'd certainly liven up the pre-match press conferences with all the smack talking.
