I just read an article in El Confidencial about a meeting Woodward-Mourinho and players that he doesn´t want. I don´t know if this is already known or not but more or less say that he doesn´t want Mata, Herrera, Schweinsteiger,Fellaini and Young. About Carrick, they say that they have a pending conversation -because of his relevance/ancestry in the dressing room and in the club- to decide his immediate future , pointing far from Manchester.
Varela, Darmian and Depay are also in the list. They don´t know the destination of Shaw, who could be loaned.
They continue writing that in the exits will influence the financial fair play and there are players who can also thicken the blacklist of Mou, as in the case of Sergio Romero, Marcos Rojo and Antonio Valencia .
"Jose Mourinho likes the qualities of De Gea , which he considers one of the best goalkeepers in the world , hence the Portuguese has declared him untransferable in closed doors/private, although is aware of the special situation suffered by the Spanish goalkeeper, as well as the fact that Real Madrid are indebted to him and will try to take it in exchange for Keylor Navas , an operation that should have been done a year earlier"
"It has also been speculated these days about the signing of Alvaro Morata for Manchester United. The environment/circle of Mourinho has denied this hypothesis . The new Manchester United manager believes that his new club should focus its energies on strengthening the midfield and the defensive part of the team, that last season gave too many headaches ."

This totally contradicts Duncan Castles' article, which claimed Mou was looking to make changes to the squad organically.

I'm more inclined to trust Castles. His track record when it cones to accurately reporting on Mou/Mendes suggests strong sources.

I cannot believe we will make wholesale changes. Too much turmoil.

Some key additions . Yes. Just think. Our squad is not all that big. If we are serious about the Title and the 3 cups, we need a fairly large and strong squad.

I can see some departures. But not as many as has been speculated.

Has he even met with all the players?

.
He said but a week ago that Mourinho had decided against Ibrahimovic and wanted to go after a younger striker instead. Granted, Ibrahimovic signing isn't official yet, but it's not looking good for baldy right now.

Can you please post the link to said article?

Every journo gets it wrong from time to time. Most of the time he seems to get it right.

I could be wrong here but wasnt he one of the first to break that Moyes had/would be sacked?

That comment didn't come across as a negotiating ploy to you? Did to me. Especially after the way Raiola had tried to pour foam on the deal's momentum the day before.

I can't. It's behind the Sunday Times paywall. The Caf will get in trouble for ripping subscription only content. Sorry mate.

Castles said we are after a centre half, centre midfielder, and a centre forward. A right winger is also wanted if one that meets Mou's specifications is wanted. Castles also said Mou rates Rashford and wants to give him chances.

Another good point with Mourinho is that he knows how to deal with transfers. Ibra, Bailly and now possibly Pjanic. Ya get the feeling that Mourinho isn't interested in taking his time, he finds realistic targets that he wants and gets them done. None of this shite of chasing Neymar, Bale or Mueller etc. It worked brilliantly for him at Chelsea and hopefully it'll work here.

:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol: that article... so silly reminds me of the article that said we were selling 10 players including welbeck and rafael when LVG was here. would never happen right :lol::lol:

No, because by all other accounts agreeing on wages was pretty straightforward. And given Mourinho and Ibrahimovic have such a good relationship, the idea that Duncan Castles would be brought in for one to deceive the other is a little absurd.

The likeliest thing with Castles is that he's very occasionally fed something by Mendes, the rest of the time he just makes stuff up and tries to make it look like he's been fed stuff by Mendes.

Its not just about winning. That is not what United is about. And van Gaal did not do much winning anyways.

He was not a fan of Herrera. The "Herrera Must play" thread was correct. Mata was played wrongly on the wings.

Mata was/is a waste of cash. He's a fair weather player. As for flair, Zlatan has flair, so does Martial. Anyway, I suspect a quality addition to the midfield could do wonders and all.

I'm no expert on football journalists but the name Duncan Castles I associate with an article supposedly supporting the idea that Mourinho has a track record of promoting youth from clubs' academies. That article was a steaming pile of poo.

Winning is the primary objective for MUFC. It also applies to other top teams.
Everything else is secondary.

LVG brought through youngsters. He was well behaved. But the one thing he could not do is win (or compete) for the league. Result: FIRED!
Moyes actually had us playing decent football. We scored many goals, but lost to big teams. He did reasonably well in the CL. But in the league, he got 7th. Result: FIRED!
If Jose wins the league with a huge points total, but plays defensive football, while being badly behaved and doesn't use youngsters - you think he'll be fired?

It's all about winning.

Nah, shit on a stick football can do one regardless of if it's successful or not.

Moyes and van Gaal had us playing football where most of us wanted to commit suicide. Please let us not rewrite history.

And No it is not just about winning which neither did I agree. Manchester United play football that is direct and entertaining. I believe Jose will give us both flair and wins. I'm not buying into the defensive football stuf. He is pragmatic not defensive. Van Gaal was defensive and boring.

If we get some of the players being mentioned like Gomes and Baily, we are on the right track.

Think Young is done so we do need a top winger. I don't like seeing Martial on the wings...wasted.

I personally don't see us chopping our squad down too much. That was the problem last season. Too thin a squad. And if Jose does not want all those players, then we must be bringing in a busload...which I doubt.

But if we are to believe the players being mentioned coming in, it sounds good. Not the very top tier but from all accounts pretty solid players.

Will be interesting in the coming weeks.

Na. It's all about playing entertaining attacking style of football.

Did he mention who/how many players Mourinho wants to sell and roughly what sort of budget he's been given for transfers? Thanks again.

Not for me. In fact id rather see him there than as a striker from now on. He's not a typical winger more like a wing forward. I just think is greatest strength is his dribbling and the knack he has of isolating his full back before taking him on time and time again is a real weapon. Playing on the left also gives him the license to cut inside.

agree with all you said except the bold part. but would like to hear why you think he is wasted in his position on the left

I can see your point. It would be interesting how Jose plays him. Him and Rashford or him and Ibra up from would be lethel. Think Rooney will either be a back up striker mostly but play in different formations as midfielder.

All in all exciting times.

Just replied after that post. If he gets the service from the wings and midfield, he will be unstoppable.
well he looks pretty unstoppable on the left at times. just needs service from midfield to be even greater. if our midfield would stop being cowardly and make the through balls when he splits the full back and center back he could really rack up the numbers. signing Zlatan fixes our striker issue. he's a good focal point and would much rather wingers sending balls into the box for Zlatan while martial terrorises the right back. Martial is good at striker, and also very good on the left... to say he's wasted on the wing is just not a fair statement. thats my view anyway

I agree he will not, but? he needs to add players that will replace valencia, blind, rooney, carrick, has we do need a CB, a RB, 2 CM players and a CF, hopefully zlaten crosses off target no1

We're nothing without trophies. Let's not kid ourselves.

Nottingham has a history, Leicester has their own history, mk dons have em, the only thing that sets it apart is we have one while winning a lot.

Liverpool is a good example, all the history none the glory

Agree with a new CB and a new new tackling CM . I doubt we will get another striker after Ibra. A winger for sure. Valencia, Blind, Rooney wont be going anywhere imo...unless we believe the stories about Blind and Mata being off.

Valencia certainly looks useful in several positions. Not just as winger or RB. He was one teh best players yesterday for example against Brazil. Still think he has a year or two in him left. Rooney will finish off his contract here.

Carrick I think done.

OUCH that sounds painful. This is a tough one, another year of VG? or seeing rooney see out his contract here? its like the joffrey choice, tongue? or hands?

I would keep blind and mata for squad purposes, but what Mourinho wants I doubt mata, blind, fellaini, rooney, carrick even suit what jose wants. Do we need a winger? I say lets see what memphis has to offer, we have lingard and martial, looks like zlaten is on board adding rashford in the team, lets see a more sane jose with some of these players than the sinile VG. I would love to see memphis and martial spear our attacks from the right and left, as both martial and memphis do have that power and acceleration that jose likes in his wingers

Thinking of the last 3 seasons and comparing to the best of the Fergie years...is...

When we had Keane and Scholes and the great team of the 90s, we used to prepare for matches...welcoming teams to the Guilotine. The last 3 years was like watching the Christians being thrown to the lions...except the Christians had more courage. We would have loved a pre-match ritual of stoning the managers.

Cant wait for what Mourinho has planned for us when he meets these managers... :)

He wasn't specific. Just said that Mou wasn't aiming to start a revolution. I think he mentioned the budget would be in excess of £100 million but don't quote me on that.

Was it not 200 mill GBP?

Even so I doubt he will spend all that. 4 players in...at most.

2 or 3 out. Perhaps a couple not renewed. I expect all those youngsters will see a lot of football. He will go all out in each of the 3 cups and even harder if posiible for the Title. The usual suspects will be strengtheneing too.

City, Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and lets not forget Lecister imo will not be a one hit wonder.

EDIT: I forgot Spurs.

Mourinho is definitely going for the title. He has said it basically every time he has spoken since being appointed. All the stuff about forgetting the past three years and wanting to win, then the stuff about forgetting about Pep because if he gets sidetracked by it someone else will win be champions. Mourinho aims to win the Premier League this season, he's actively encouraging us to expect it too. It feels good to have a manager not talking of 'transition' and saying 'you live in the past' for expecting United to win.

Couldn't agree more. It seems like Mourinho has a plan, knows exactly which players will fit into that plan and are get-able. Something which can't be said for the last three summers.
