Time will tell whether he is the right man for us, but there is no doubting we have got the best man on the market. He is a charismatic and strong character as well as being a fantastic tactician. His record over the last 10 years is almost unrivalled and I think he will take us to the next level. However, Mourinho has got to show that the carnage at Chelsea was a blip and not a sign of things to come.

In a way, I feel that Mourinho's and Manchester United's destinies have always been intwined. There has often been huge clashes between Fergie's United and whatever team Jose had at the time and though he was made the fun of our chants, he has always been held in huge regard. There has always been a sense of belief that Fergie's throne was Mourinho's to inherit.

All the best and i'm looking forward to the signings we are going to make this summer. Almost certainly starting with Ibra.

Any news about Giggs's possible role?

He's been told he doesn't actually need to do anything, he can just hang around the ground scratching his beard waiting for his moment while his mates campaign for him and he gets the top job by divine default.

He needs to prove that he can win a title after his second season at a club.

Didn't he won the treble at his third season with Inter? And his third season with Porto?

He won the treble in his first season at Porto (UEFA Cup part of it), and the CL in his second. Won the treble in his second season at Inter.

OVER THE MOON!

Feeling very positive about what Mourinho can bring to the club. I think he will be heavily backed by the board in the transfer market also. Steps in the right direction, for sure.

No contest …

I'm sure I've seen him somewhere...

Back on topic, I'm absolutely delighted. He looks like a man realising longstanding ambition, and almost seems nervous - and considering the clubs he's managed that say's a lot about what he thinks of Manchester United. He was destined for this job.

Also, I'm glad he's managing us now and not in 2013 as he's been to the circuses at Chelsea and Real, and there aren't any better clubs out there for him to manage in terms of clubs offering longevity and stability. If he delivers, he'll have job security and satisfaction for as long as he wants it.

Best news possible! Can you imagine how different the dressing room would feel with Zlatan/Rooney leading it and Mourinho managing it? Exciting times for our young players.

Have a smile on my face all day since this has been confirmed. There are no guarantees in football, especially in the Premier League, but we have appointed one of the great managers of the game. We have given ourelves the best chance possible to get ourselves back to the top.

FOr all the opposition fans who say we've changed our tune, of course we have. No one is saying Jose is perfect. No one is saying his attitude to youth, his conduct and his lack of longevity at any club aren't concerns. We've all, almost to a man, been critical of him in the past. But oftentimes, that was through jealousy. He has the perfect attitude to be United manager and we always knew it, even if we didn't care to admit it. He's a winner.

To be honest, I find it incredible that Chelsea have sacked the man. Twice. In a league as competitive as the Premier League, he has won three titles in the past 11 years. That would be a more than decent record if he had never left Chelsea. However, also in that last 11 years, he's left Chelsea, won two leagues in Italy and one in Spain, where he faced arguably in the greatest club side of all time.

Since he got the Porto job, he has won 8 league titles in 14 years. That's an astonishing figure. It may not happen this season, although I hope it will, but I have no doubt we'll win the league under Mourinho.

Whether he allows youth to flourish or not or whether he can be a manager that stays at a club for 6/7 years or more, only time will tell. But after three years of dithering, we've finally made the right appointment and hopefully it will lead Manchester United back to where they belong.

I think every fan has every right to question the appointment, his disastrous stint in his third season at chelsea should come with much caution. What we learnt under his second stint at chelsea, it is vital he gets the right personality, because while the players he signed at chelsea in his second season were quality players, there were way too many different extreme personality's and attitude problems, and it was a ticking time bomb. I hope when he comes in, Jose has learnt allot from his sacking, because he did not help himself

Great but what about Giggs? I'm a bit nervous he's going to be forced onto the new manager, again.

Can't he leave for a while and try to manage a different club? Please?

I have never been a fan of Mourinho due to his personallity and not the football he makes his teams play (I find the criticism against him way too harsh and simply based on a small selection of matches, his teams have always been high scorers). However I can't help but think that he is one man who knows exactly what it is to manage a club as big as Utd. He won't be out of place and his arrogance/ego will influence the players and make them believe in themselves much more than under Moyes and LVG.

Ah that interview, I'm quite giddy about this appointment I must say to my shame :D

He might not be great, or he might fail ultimately the only certainty is that we've given the job to the best man possible at long last. Knew Moyes was wrong from day one, tried to get excited by reading all the ex-pros saying how he was the right man but that didn't last. Itwas kind of like when I tried to get excited about zaha and read one of those bbc articles where they interviewed a palace academy chief. The guy said Zaha did have a chance, but they were surprised he was now on his way to united but always thought he would be prem quality, not the most certain player that had gone through their academy, that acclaim was reserved for victor f'''ing moses, at that point zaha was wrote off. Moyes was too, just looking at the other managers available, then looking at the other teams and asking would they appoint him, like seriously it is absolutely astonishing that it ever happened if you think about it, genuinely astonishing. It's like them asking me to run facebook because I once had a post that got nearly 50 likes. LVG had a stellar record although I hadn't followed his career closely at all I did get excited by his aura and his teams success at the world cup, even if he wouldn't have been in my top 5 picks at the time. However he hasn't been able to rebuild the squad in the way we obviously needed and he is a very poor man manager, I think it is deliberate how cold he seems towards players but our squad is still licking its wounds, a fallen giant who needs someone to get the best out of the players and give them the winning mentality, LVG couldn't do this and deserved to go. Mourinho on the other hand completely rebuilt Chelsea incredibly quickly to get them to the position where they could win the league the season before last and has also instilled a winning mentality, he will not be overawed by the job and he will get the best out of his players, I am absolutely buzzing to see what he can do with the team

"What the fans are expecting me to say is that I want to win. The players need to hear that, but I think we can really, it's not just to say it."

It would certainly be nice if he could acquire some more information

See you at the transfer forum ;)

Tbh, I dont have anything new now and I should probably not push my luck. Though none picked this up, so I am safe :)

The LvG nightmare is over at last. Not a huge fan of Mourinho because of his behavior, but there is no doubting his ability to win titles. I am fully behind him now after his appointment and really excited to see the squad that he will build here at United.

Like all things "in-house" it has nothing to gauge itself against!

Until @Niall and the @mods accepts my offer to start RedCAFTV there will be very little visual objectivity shown on the matter

True and i know their budget isn't huge, but it just seems like they take absolutely no advantage of their special access. Last week after the cup win there was nothing from the changing room and behind the scenes etc.

Same today with Mourinho nothing but a 2-3 min interview. Every show seems to take the exact same format, same studio, presenter + Macari/Ritchie, phone calls from the same 5-6 regular callers. It actually seems to have gotten worse over the years.

A few years back they used to loads more behind the scenes stuff especially after winning a cup or the league.

There isn't much to show is there?

I don't know how anyone with a true passion for United can try to make a good season review of LVG's season...

Not convinced, have always disliked the guy. I acknowledge this is a trait many hugely successful people have but he's just a bit of a prick at times and gets dragged into petty feuds and fails to maintain his professionalism. Often makes everything about himself rather than the club.

I'll need a lot of convincing but I support this club and this team so I'm obviously hoping he wins me over by playing good football, giving youth a chance and getting results.

The special one at a special club

My first post in mains this, glad that it's about Mourinho to Manchester :cool:
