There is a bit of inevitability about this, I feel. A bit like getting together with someone you have fancied and flirted with for years. Fingers crossed the climax matches the anticipation.

Listening to him talk about United as 'our club' and seeing him looking genuinely delighted to be called the Manchester United Manager, is incredibly refreshing to see.

We had Moyes say we should aspire to be like City, you had LVG saying our standards are too high, and now this guy has immediately set them as high as Fergie always did.

Well done Woodward & rest of the board. Decision was made and it created opportunity for managerial upgrade in the club.

Feeling substantially calmer for the future, now.

Any news about Giggs's possible role?

I like that pretty much the first thing he had to say was "aye, remember that time I said United was better than Real Madrid, aye, aye? Good times...." followed closely by, "Chelsea? Chelsea who?"

His first interview looked focused to me. You can tell he's really happy that it's finally happened. He just wants to get started and I'm sure everyone can't wait to next season already. Maybe having a time out after the meltdown at Chelsea will benefit us in the long run, he looked drained and a shadow of his former self. He now looks refreshed and ready to go. I have a feeling Mourihno will make us a force again, you just know it. I can honestly see us lifting our first premier league post Fergie with him.

I liked him admitting he said some things out of respect to United at his previous clubs that annoyed some people (like United being the better team against Madrid). He has been trying to get this job for a while.

Was not happy before he got the job, but now he is in the role will give him full support. At least he should be an improvement on Moyes and LVG.

What is the difference between the "We have chosen the path of folly and darkness" and "should have kept Van Gaal" options?

These people signing up with JoMo in their names are hugely mistaken if they think it'll result in them getting promoted faster, or at all.

"We should have kept Van Gaal"

Just the words sends shiver down my spine!

"We have chosen the path of folly and darkness"

Is this another way of saying "We should have hired Giggs"?

Has there been any reaction from our players on social media?
Scholes will be gutted not to see Giggs at the helm, but will love Jose at the helm anyways. Not that he does not want Giggs in, but he wouldn't mind if he was out too at the same time.

Given the Twitter silence, perhaps the players have been asked not to tweet about the appointment, for some reason; although Juan did tweet 'Gulp in Spanish'.

It's @WelcomeMikel I feel sorry for.
