Nuri Sahin

All the reliable ones are coming out the woodwork now. Coming out of Turkey as well it's all done.

Not really. I think its just the usual stuff. i think he most likely to go to Spurs or Arsenal on loan.

Am hearing him to Liverpool is a done deal, R.Madrid didn't want to sell him no matter what so from their point of view sending him to Liverpool made more sense as I believe it is a straight forward loan. From what I know we wouldn't take him on loan unless there was an option to buy which R.Madrid didn't want to offer. Also at Arsenal he isn't guaranteed as much first team football as Liverpool imo

More importantly he won't be helping a rival CL team, and most importantly there is absolutely no way the player will want to stay there.

Ahm?! They've got Allen, Sahin (if he signs), Gerrard, Lucas, Henderson, Spearing and Shelvey. We've got Carrick, Cleverley, Scholes, Anderson, Giggs & even Kagawa (as much a CM as Gerrard). You really think they've got a better midfield? I'd have ours any day of the week and twice on Sunday.

You're a patriot. I'll give you that.

If Anderson and Cleverley produce the goods, we may be better. Otherwise, no.

To be honest, I'd be disgusted if Liverpool were able to get him on loan and we made no effort for him. We need to strengthen the midfield, it's as simple as that. This guy fits the bill perfectly. I'm astounded that we are not being linked with him.

Plus he would work brilliantly with Kagawa.

We have Cleverley, Anderson, and Scholes perfectly capable of working well with Kagawa.

I don't think we need a champions league quality player on loan whilst Liverpool definitely do. We don't need to build around a player who will only be with us for a year whereas Liverpool just need to get into the Champions League so that they can attract more quality players.

Nah. The usual stuff is 'supposedly', 'in talks', etc. Too many saying it's a done deal now for it to not be on.

Their first choice midfield may be Lucas, Sahin with Gerrard just a bit further upfield. Ours (I guess we'll change most of the time and often play with two, not with three in the middle) could be Carrick, Cleverley and Kagawa.

The remaining options? Allen, Spearing, Henderson, Shelvey (Adam will be gone soon) on one side, Scholes, Anderson, Giggs on the other (discounting our promising youngsters in Powell and Petrucci). I may wear my red-tinted glasses, but I just can't see how they have a better midfield.

If Liverpool do get Sahin, that'll be an excellent signing, no doubt about that. For me, they're still rank outsiders for a top 4 finish, but I guess it's a start for them.

We have Cleverley, Anderson, and Scholes perfectly capable of working well with Kagawa.

Are they all perfectly capable though? Cleverley should be, presuming he stays fit. That is a big if though. Anderson could, but he also has to not only stay fit, but massively improve at the same time. Scholes can work with him, however his game time will be limited largely because of his age. Sahin is a far better centre mid than the former two, while will be able to play more often than the latter one in all likelihood, and isn't too far off him ability wise, if at all. Plus, Kagawa and Sahin have worked together already from their Dortmund days.

Talk about a fall from grace. He's gone from the cream of German football to the biggest club in the world, to sitting on a bench for a season before finally having to go out on loan, to a prem team outside the elite clubs and slog it out on Channel5.

Real have him on a tight leash it seems and I guess that's why the better teams weren't interested. Surely a lesson for any young talent being courted by Madrid.

They're definitely rank, that's for sure.

Thank feck you're not. The owners have so far spent £25m this summer alone. If loan deals are good enough for the likes of Real & Milan then we'll have some of that thank you. It's your "we're better than that" attitude that stinks. If this loan signing helps us to improve enough to reclaim a place in the Top 4, which will in turn help us to aim for the higher bracket of transfers again, then it will have been good business. At the end of that year, any number of scenarios could occur, one of which being we sign him on a permanent basis. It's a bit of a no lose really but then you wouldn't see it that way unless he was signing for United.

Of course there's a lose.

You lose the player at the end of the year, having had him farmed out to you from a big club so you can improve him and pay his wages, before handing him back.

I'd hate that. The only way I'd want it at United is with a guaranteed option to buy. If Liverpool have got that, fair enough.

Do you really think Fergie will accept to have a player on loan with no option to buy? Some fans really need a grip.

I think the reason why Liverpool have got him was because they were willing to just take a flat one year loan. Arsenal wanted the buy clause in there too.

Nah, he's got it all to prove in the Premier League. All the more so after such an underwhelming spell in Spain. How on earth did you come up with "far better" anyway? Do you really watch that much German football?

What about his not so underwhelming spell in the Bundesliga though? If he was given some game time, I think he could prove himself to be a good player at the very least for Real Madrid.

We've got Carrick, Cleverley, Scholes, Anderson, Giggs & even Kagawa

Carrick - A fine player but usually takes half a season to get going. Getting on a bit now, too.

Cleverley - Injury prone and vastly overrated by some Cafites it seems. Looked bright beginning of last season and in Olympics, WE NEED him to start quickly.

Scholes - Old. Having to bring him back out of retirement was a wakeup call for everyone involved with United. He's a genius but still having to look for him to produce the goods is worrying.

Giggs - See Scholes.

Anderson - Seriously? We're still clinging onto the hope that he might be a great signing? Not going to happen, kids.

Kagawa - A number 10. Likes to play behind the strikers, doesn't he? A fine player from the looks of things, will do well at United. Not a CM though.

Real Madrid don't seem to think so right now.

Sahin has also just come back from an almost season ending injury. There's no guarantees he'll also remain fit. How do people work out Sahin is better than Cleverley and Anderson without actually having seen much of him is a mystery.

PS: I'm not implying you've not seen much of Sahin.

I'm continually amazed at how so many people find the time to watch so much football that they're experts on players at other PL clubs as well as clubs in Spain, Italy and now Germany. There's players at mid-table PL clubs I barely saw play 180 minutes last season and I watch a LOT of football.

Is this the beginning "he is not that good after all now that he's signed for liverpool" campaign?

Real Madrid don't seem to think so right now.

The club who just happen to be notorious for discarding talent as soon as they don't feel they can find a place for it. See Sneijder, Van Der Vaart, Robben and a number of others, not all Dutch by the way, as examples.

Of course, I'm not implying Sahin is God and will automatically solve all of our midfield problems, but if he was available for a fair price then we should take him in my opinion.

So why is Anderson better than Sahin? Who saw him play last season?

I can't recall many games.

Players who have for most part controlled games.

Anderson and Cleverley still have it all to prove in any league, Sahin at least has two good seasons in the Bundesliga as a core part of a double winning team to his name.

Is this the beginning "he is not that good after all now that he's signed for liverpool" campaign?

Ignore them, they're bitter.

I am very jealous - your midfield is shaping up very nicely.

Lucas, Allen, Sahin and Gerrard are quality players and will fit into Rodger's 4-4-3 system well - I fear that you lot actually might start winning games next season. Still think you need a striker though.

Staggering isn't it. "Well he played for Madrid so he must be great, he is my new want this summer"

Injury prone, has an attitude, ON LOAN WITH NO BUY OPTION. Yeah sounds right up our street. I have faith in the squad this year, some players it's slim, but its there.

Where you at, Alastair? WHERE YOU AT?

Was just a few hours ago adexkola dismissed the very possibility.

haha lol fair play

Seriously though, this is out of the blue.

I can't recall many games.

I can't recall Sahin playing many games last season. Who's comparing the 2 players in this thread?

I've heard he's quality from good sources and hence want him because it can't hurt to have him around. In reality, I, and I imagine 90% of the posters in this thread, have seen him play about twice. Some pretend they've seen him play loads, some take the opinions of experts who say he's brilliant. I did the latter here, because there just aren't enough hours in the day to watch all of these people.

You're missing the important point that Madrid might not want to park their player at a CL rival, or at a club where their player might end up wanting to stay.

One season. He moved in 2011, Dortmund won the double in 2011/12.

There is no point denying Sahin is a very good addition to Liverpool's squad if he can reach his best level, the level he showed at Dortmund in 2010/11. Still he is coming to a new league, without a proper pre-season, just coming back from a lenghty injury lay-off, we will see how he copes.
And yes, I watched him a lot at Dortmund, as he was hyped beyond reason from the age of 17.

Anderson has controlled games? I must have been living on the moon for the last few years then.

I've not claimed Anderson controlled any games last season. Read the post again, mate.

I was arguing with the guy who reckons our midfield players piss all over Liverpool's.

They don't.

Our midfield can hold their own with most teams in the world. They've proved this over many years.
