Nuri Sahin

Nothing in that assessment by the Dortmund fan has made me chancge my mind about Sahin. We have Scholes and Carrick atm, none of whom go charging around the pitch.

the players we are looking at for more advanced positions are tailor made for a more fluid and interchangeable style of football, which means we would benefit from a player who passes the ball well, keeps his discipline and can defend effectively.

I have said this previously, buying Sahin would give us Scholes like passing, and Carrick like defensive work. He can do either job, and has unquestionable quality and vision. That's why i wanted him before, and it's why i would still take him at Utd right now.

He is not injury prone. People think so because he barely played last season but in reality he only missed the pre-season due to injury. Mourinho just did not play him often enough for whatever reasons and I don't really see how this will change after investing € 40 million-ish in Modric. Xabi, Modric, Khedira and homegrown Granero -- chances are very slim that Sahin will ever make it in Madrid. He should move on.

He didn't only miss pre-season. He got injured in August and was out for 2 months. After that I'm not sure if he got any more knocks or not after that.

Can we hope...

According to reports Real Madrid midfielder Nuri Sahin is under consideration at Manchester United.

United boss Sir Alex Ferguson considered a bid for the former Borussia Dortmund star last summer before he chose Real.

Ferguson admits he is seeking some creativity for his midfield and TMW says the Turkey international is back on his radar.

Real are keen to find a buyer for Sahin, valuing the Turk at €10 million.

I doubt we'll go for him but I like him and he could be a good signing. Because of their riches and because they don't seem to rate him, I don't think Real Madrid would ask for an insane amount. You'd basically get someone who's as good as Modric, if not better, for a much smaller fee.

The fee pretty much works out at what they paid for him, I'd love to add him to Lucas to round off the summer muppetry.

 Isn't 10m Euros less than what they spent for him when they got him?

And why should they even be looking at more when they've signed him on the basis of an excellent season for a title-winning Borussia while whoever goes for him now will be buying a Real Madrid reject after a season plagued with injuries and bench-warming?

What the hell are you talking about? I am sensing some wummery again from you Sarni. I would take in a heartbeat is all I am saying.

I believe the fee was around 10m Euro when he moved from Dortmund. On one hand, after an excellent season. On the other, he only had one year remaining on his contract then.

He moved on a small fee because of his contract situation. He'll continue to move on a small fee because of a season thats been written off. But it wont be to us

This would be my choice of signing. A midfielder available reasonably cheaply with plenty of years to improve his game too.

The Spanish press have been speculating about this for a few days. Basically we're supposed to be interested, but we got stalled by Madrid when it looked like Inter were interested in Sahin (which could help them get Maicon cheap)

As to the price, his wages are relatively high but affordable for us, something like 2.5m net of tax I guess about 5m gross. The transfer fee would be where it needs to be to get a bidder from the kind of club he'd be willing to go to.

Nah, I thought you were ridiculing the article because it had a low price quoted in it - my bad.

Give over man...Modric is definitely a superior player to Sahin. He's got space to improve though....but at Real Madrid he's not going to get that chance.

Different type of midfielders. Sahin is every bit a deep lying midfielder, whereas Modric is a bit more attacking in my opinion.

Why is Modric definitely superior though? Because he has a knack for looking like he's brilliant against most of the smaller sides in the league, and because he played most of the time last season. Sahin's an excellent player who hasn't really gotten a chance at Real Madrid. I think he's similar to Modric ability wise.

Normally I'd ask why a club wanted to pay £30M to exchange a 23 y.o for a 26 y.o of similar ability. But it's Real Madrid, so that question is less relevant.

No that's just a daft assesment and clearly not accurate. It's because he reads the game better, is superior at dictating play, positionally he is exceptional and he can dribble a ball better than Sahin. His close control is just superb, look at the two closely and you will see what I'm getting at.

I think Mourinho will hit gold with Modric, he's going to give Real Madrid even more of an edge. If Sahin was better, why would Jose want Modric? Doesn't make sense and I think Mourinho knows an exceptional midfield player when he sees one.

He's better defensively than Modric and also more productive. He's just been injured and Madrid seemed to give up on him. Its a strange one but I dont think Madrid are known for their patience. Why give a player a 2nd chance in his second season when you can buy someone else for £30 million?

Maybe for now. But Sahin is younger than Modric and with guaranteed, first team football, Sahin will become better than Modric. This is one of those its-a-question-of-when-and-not-if thingys.

Please let this happen. I'd love it if we could nab him for 20m or less!

-_- have you even seen Sahin play for Dortmund? Dictating play he does exceptionally. He doesn't dribble better but he plays more like Scholes and Pirlo with his movement and passing. A workhorse who adapts to the tactics the coach is using exceptionally well, and add to that a good freekick delivery.

He'd be a great buy for us honestly. He's also still young, while Scholes is.. well he retired once already, Carrick is 31 so he doesn't exactly have many years left, and Cleverly and Ando still have their injury problems and therefore haven't been able to show that they can play at the highest level for more than a couple of weeks.

As to why Real Madrid payed so little for him.. pretty sure he had a very small release clause.

Taken from a selection of games. Would be brilliant for us.

Edit: Fal, it was because he was in his last year of his contract I think.

I'd be delighted if he came here. Would've liked him before he went to Madrid and nothing has changed my mind. Yeah, he hasn't been successful there but he wouldn't be the first quality player they've signed and then ditched who has gone on to be successful elsewhere.

VdV, Sneijder and Robben agree with this. I remember this lad was really hyped to the max, even before he was on Madrid's radar. Seems we are interested in quite a lot of players though, is it usually like this, or do we have lots of money to spend this summer? go on..somebody bite

Some people overrate players ridiculously on here. A good season in Dortmund, followed by a handful of appearences in Madrid?

Seems Jose Mourinho disagrees and would rather have Modric - a consistent PL performer for a sustained period, even if it does cost £30 plus million.

This kid may very well prove to be a talent, but again, hardly seems like clubs are banging down Real's door to sign him.
