Gone off the boil a bit but he’s still a classy player. Needs to find his position which I think is right CB in this system. Could maybe even be a DM.

Another disappointing performance tonight. Sign a LWB and have him as a CB option. We're not progressive enough going forward with him on the wing.

I am the boring guy who keeps popping in here and saying he’s not a wingback. Very bad fit for the position. No overlapping runs, like ever. A tendency to come central vs create width. And the icing on the cake is not enough stamina to go up and down so he’s caught high too often.
I think the stamina issue is the biggest thing. I think he knows himself he can’t get up and down like that so he doesn’t bother doing it.

I'm right there with you. He just offers nothing as a wingback.

Needs a rest. One of his worse games on and off the ball for us.

Just shows how hard it is to play on the opposite side when you're physically and/or mentally tired. Dalot got his rest, we'll see how he is next game.

He was excellent against Liverpool and Arsenal.. Not great tonight but then apart from Amad who was?

Agree with all of this. That performance was far, far below Maz's usual level. Couldn't press out of posession either, which led our centre midfielders constantly abandoning the middle and leaving Southampton with a very easy route through the middle off the wall pass.

He's been one of the singings of the season so I'm letting him off for that. However, it highlighted our lack of depth.

He's a good defender but he's completely unnoticable in attack

With Dalot he at least gets forward a lot and although he generally doesnt make much happen given how often he has an oppertunity to take players on and do something in attack, Mazaraoui just isnt there in the first place to pick up the ball in a dangerous position

Not a left wing back. Thankfully Dalot is back, who also isn't, but is more of one than Maz.

To be fair to him, I'd blame our defenders too. Yoro and de Ligt played a very deep line and weren't comfortable pushing it higher. At least Martinez tried to step in and press in midfield. Playing wing backs in our current team means you're still a regular full back because if you push up too much, your centre backs are exposed but then at the same time you're expected to provide width and overlaps for your 10s, who are pressing the opposition near their penalty box! Thankless task.

He's tired and either a fullback or right CB, not a wingback (especially not left WB). Should get some rest.

The terrible pressing structure, which Amorim spoke about on TNT sports post game, was the start and end of all our difficulties. The front line was going one way, the back line was going the other way, the middle line was being torn in both directions (centre part going forward to fill gaps, wingbacks going backwards). It felt like Ten Hag.

You're right, in that context, not just with Nous but with everyone in the middle line, taking too much from today would be an error. Any midfield line is going to look cak in those circumstances.

Pretty sure his form dropped significantly right from the very first match he moved from RCB to a wingback role. He was probably our player of the season up until that change, but he's been one of the weaker players in the team since then.

Personally I think he should be playing RCB in our strongest 11.

As I mentioned earlier in this thread, he’s just coming down to our level, as has happened to countless players post Fergie.
Nah. He had 5 or so games above his level at the start of the season, and people overrated him. He's still solid, but he's nothing special either with or without the ball. A bit above average dribbling and ball control, that's mainly it. Otherwise Bayern wouldn't have sold him so cheaply.

At this point it's obvious he isn't a wingback. Club needs to get someone in this window that can play wingback. Don't even care if just a 6 month loan. Needs to be done

5 games? He was great at RB under ETH and Ruud then RCB under Amorim. It's only been since he moved to wingback that he's dropped right off.

Now obviously there's a chance that his earlier form was just a golden patch and not what we can expect long term, but it was a hell of a lot more than just 5 matches.

Doesn’t suit wingback at all, and I imagine Amorim knows that we are just limited in our options.

Yeah not a wingback at all. But I can see him playing in midfield, already did that at Ajax I think. We need to rotate Mainoo and Ugarte because they can’t play every 3 days.

He will end up midfield or RCB in the long run.

He was good for awhile and is a solid player, but I'm just saying he had several really good games that made people think we had this absolute gem. But I think those were not at a level he can sustain long term.

Glad you said because I dare not compare the play under our current manager to that mess, which still gives me PTSD.

I'm so glad we won but it's worrying stuff. Why won't our defence push higher.

Maybe some context would help why his performances have been subpar. he looked like an absolute gem in his natural position. He’s never ever a left wing back and his quality shouldnt be judged based on his level there.

Man Utd 1:3 Brighton New
So far this season he's been good defensively, but with the ball and particularly in the wingback role he has offered nothing at all with the ball

Today he was terrible defensively and made to look League one standard by Mitoma defensively. In attack he was again, completely unnoticeable on the pitch. Dalot gets a lot of stick for his defending but he was miles better with and without the ball today

Probably the worst wingback I have ever seen, offers nothing going forward and can't defend.

I think he’s about par on good games v bad games this season now.

If he’s going to play in this system it has to be RCB. And with how limited our midfielders are on the ball, for the sake of buildup I think he and Martinez kind of have to be playing

He's such an average player. Isn't exceptional or special at any given part of being a fullback - isn't particularly fast, strong, athletically, mediocre going forward.

Guy has no proper engine on him. The difference between Dalot's energy and Mazraoui's is night and day. If the team is not parked in the opposition's half keeping the ball he aint effective.

Yeah, he's been really underwhelming for a while now. Clearly not suited for a wing back role, he gravitates towards that right centre back zone messing everything up.
