He's better as a wide cb
Should play there and should have started there instead of Yoro
He's better as a wide cb
I think the stamina issue is the biggest thing. I think he knows himself he can’t get up and down like that so he doesn’t bother doing it.I am the boring guy who keeps popping in here and saying he’s not a wingback. Very bad fit for the position. No overlapping runs, like ever. A tendency to come central vs create width. And the icing on the cake is not enough stamina to go up and down so he’s caught high too often.

Needs a rest. One of his worse games on and off the ball for us.
Just shows how hard it is to play on the opposite side when you're physically and/or mentally tired. Dalot got his rest, we'll see how he is next game.
De LigtHe was excellent against Liverpool and Arsenal.. Not great tonight but then apart from Amad who was?
Agree with all of this. That performance was far, far below Maz's usual level. Couldn't press out of posession either, which led our centre midfielders constantly abandoning the middle and leaving Southampton with a very easy route through the middle off the wall pass.
He's been one of the singings of the season so I'm letting him off for that. However, it highlighted our lack of depth.
To be fair to him, I'd blame our defenders too. Yoro and de Ligt played a very deep line and weren't comfortable pushing it higher. At least Martinez tried to step in and press in midfield. Playing wing backs in our current team means you're still a regular full back because if you push up too much, your centre backs are exposed but then at the same time you're expected to provide width and overlaps for your 10s, who are pressing the opposition near their penalty box! Thankless task.
Nah. He had 5 or so games above his level at the start of the season, and people overrated him. He's still solid, but he's nothing special either with or without the ball. A bit above average dribbling and ball control, that's mainly it. Otherwise Bayern wouldn't have sold him so cheaply. As I mentioned earlier in this thread, he’s just coming down to our level, as has happened to countless players post Fergie.
At this point it's obvious he isn't a wingback. Club needs to get someone in this window that can play wingback. Don't even care if just a 6 month loan. Needs to be donePretty sure his form dropped significantly right from the very first match he moved from RCB to a wingback role. He was probably our player of the season up until that change, but he's been one of the weaker players in the team since then.
Personally I think he should be playing RCB in our strongest 11.
5 games? He was great at RB under ETH and Ruud then RCB under Amorim. It's only been since he moved to wingback that he's dropped right off.Nah. He was good for awhile and is a solid player, but I'm just saying he had several really good games that made people think we had this absolute gem. But I think those were not at a level he can sustain long term.5 games? He was great at RB under ETH and Ruud then RCB under Amorim. Now obviously there's a chance that his earlier form was just a golden patch and not what we can expect long term, but it was a hell of a lot more than just 5 matches.
The terrible pressing structure, which Amorim spoke about on TNT sports post game, was the start and end of all our difficulties. The front line was going one way, the back line was going the other way, the middle line was being torn in both directions (centre part going forward to fill gaps, wingbacks going backwards). It felt like Ten Hag.
You're right, in that context, not just with Nous but with everyone in the middle line, taking too much from today would be an error. Any midfield line is going to look cak in those circumstances.
Maybe some context would help why his performances have been subpar. he looked like an absolute gem in his natural position. He’s never ever a left wing back and his quality shouldnt be judged based on his level there. He was good for awhile and is a solid player, but I'm just saying he had several really good games that made people think we had this absolute gem.
