  • Any player GOATish picked who had their genuine peak prior to 1992/3 season needs a short write up to explain their ability and general role in their declared years. So if they would always be picked as a B2B in an all-time draft but in the declare peak here they were a libero, a short bio explaining their ability in this role will be required.
Edit: post this referred to has been deleted but the matter is clearly addressed here. Seemed pretty clear to me who the example was.

Well aye. Generally he no longer played as the Milan box-to-box midfielder at Ajax, but in a deeper role splitting his time between defence and the base of midfield. But still very classy. And influential too:

- 1 season at Milan - 92/93 Serie A winners and finalists in the CL
- 1992 Serie A footballer of the year
- Ajax - became best team in Europe with that incredible 94/95 campaign winning league and CL
- 94/95 ESM Team of the Year

Then he retires at just 32. Apart from Cantona I can't think of anyone who has called it quits so close to their peak at the very top, is there anyone else? Zidane obviously retired at a World Cup Final, on the back of a great tournament, which tops Rijkaard's CL final, but was 34 and had dropped off at club level quite a bit from his peak.

I don't question his quality but I am not sure how well his Ajax version dovetails with Pirlo. Would be interesting to see how you deploy him.

Bad lazy-ass research design: "if I knew the guy in the 80s I'm not gonna bother". Exceptions for Batistuta (88) and Redondo (87) as I tracked Argentinians from very early in their careers.

Cue overlooking a guy playing two World Cup finals in the 90s.
