Nostalgia Draft - Winner - Isotope

I suppose you could block the reinforcements from injury for the game immediately after they are drafted. I don't get though what you mean about raising the bar from 3rd, the 4th etc
The first point is pretty crucial in that sometimes you will get a functional player that can survive a first round but who has no business in a late stage and you bank on upgrading.

How many reinforcements are there along the way? If it's only 2-3 I'd leave them out really, they are bound to be as important as those first two picks.

That last question is also relevant to the "raising" the bar. I thought you said after the first game it would be picks 1-3 that couldn't get injured, then 1-4, and so on.

No big deal either way, it's the drafting that is fun but those are relevant points to plan around.

There will be two reinforcements before the QFs and SFs and just one before the final.

Also note you can't reinforce the first two picks of any drafter.

I was thinking of just preventing injury to the 1st and 2nd picks plus the players just reinforced - I.e. those reinforced before the QFs. However these players could be injured for the SFs.

How does that sound? If anyone else has thoughts on this please let me know.

Point being, say someone builds a team around Xavi or Scholes or Pirlo and they are injured. That game more or less becomes pointless. Its a distinct advantage for teams with the standard setups where most are replaceable with only a damp in quality in the injury position but no real impact on the system.

That’s a good point on rewarding generic teams as opposed to ones which are a bit more nuanced and specific tactically - though protecting first and second round picks mitigates it somewhat.

As an aside I’ve never been a massive fan of too much randomness in drafts personally, the process takes too long for luck to play a major role imo (I know Gio and I benefitted from it this draft, but even when it goes well it doesnt feel as rewarding)!

I think that's OK. Bound to screw someone maybe but the more uncertainty placed on all players the more fun the drafting should be.

Is RedSky into drafts now?

Can you have a word with him and help encourage him to take up my job offer?

I'm the old manager coming out of retirement and he's the young hipster tactician. Big on statistics, analysis and performance. Wears a gilet under a deconstructed blazer. You know the sort.

Match made in heaven.

I'm not your best bet. He is already stuck with me in a game of Werewolf this week.

If you're considering eliminating injuries, I'll support it!

The idea behind them is to give more prominence to versatile players. Also the way I have designed it should make it pretty fair and it shouldn't stop you coming up with a different sort of strategy as your first two picks can never be injured.

Was that beauty you had put together affected by them?

Nah, just feels like we've been having this in almost every snake draft recently played.

Sure. Its your call!

I can see the point of injuries - the fun factor, a somewhat realistic tactical challenge for managers to see how they handle an injury to their squad etc. I do get why it's not so appealing with regards to team building, with some players being critical to the system and the unfairness of it (a 9th round pick getting blocked as opposed to a 4th round pick for someone else).

Perhaps all picks from a certain round can be blocked, at random, to even it up?

This is a great idea!

I don’t think we’ve ever done this before, but looks like an interesting spin on the injury concept if its going that route.

That's exactly how it will work. I will get Synco to randomise a number between 3-15 and whichever is number top is the round number that all drafters will have injured. The only exception is if it is the first of a double pick for the 1st and 16th drafters - in that case there will be a further randomisation between the double pick to see who is injured; this is to stop any marginal advantage of putting the better player as the later pick

Good call, just randomise the turn. Would also solve peach reinforcement vs 11th picked player.

Should I prevent reinforcements from being injured if I just randomise the turn? Btw that is what I tried to suggest in the OP although I may not have been as clear as I should have been

You could, just make sure it's clear beforehabd whichever it is.

The OP was actually clear but it got lost as we started discussing the issue.

I like the setup, it's a good setup for injuries.

Ah man, thanks for the invites, I only just had chance to check, love the look of this draft, I’ll go on a reserve list incase anyone drops out :)

I’m sure I’ve got that album still upstairs

@Synco

Please can you randomise the picking order please and post.

Drafting will start at 10pm BST tomorrow. Should give people enough time.

Injury Clarification
Clarification on injuries. One injury will happen after drafting and reinforcements. It will be the number of a picking round so everyone should have an injury of similar quality e.g. round 4 picks. 1st and 16th drafted will have their injuries randomised from two picking rounds if it falls on a double pick to avoid any marginal advantage of choosing the better player to be in the later pick round.

Pick 1 and 2 can never be injured.

Not sure whether reinforcements should be blocked from injury but we can discuss that later as it makes no difference now.

Also remember pick 1 and 2 can never be picked in reinforcements
