Northern Ireland Thread

Why exactly are they called 'Loyalists'. Trying to kid everyone they're loyal to the crown and UK patriots? I think not. Is staying part of the UK the only way they can maintain any kind of power? Loyal only to themselves imo.

Jumping up and down on British police vehicles burning the tricolour singing God Save The Queen. The Empire must be so proud.

It's the hypocrisy that gets me. Loyalists my arse! And what kind of decent person wants to march through a Cathholic area when they're basically celebrating killing Catholics. It's barbaric and sick.

Most British people share your view, luckily enough. The orange order don't realise that most people over the water think they're an embarrassment.

Do they care though?

They're epic retards and have encouraged trouble by their actions but they're not actually talking about marching through a catholic area. They're walking up a road that is surrounded by areas on both sides.

Dude, it's the area and road that has caused five days of rioting since the last one was banned. The only reason they're doing this is to force the Parades Commission to ban this march too so they can try to show themselves as some sort of victims and in the process will cause days and days more rioting. They're a disgrace and a total embarrassment to NI especially the Protestant people.

I'm not saying they're not or defending their actions. I agree with you. It's simply an antagonistic ploy and a stupid one destined to fail. I just think with a debate as emotive as the one in Northern Ireland should be completely accurate. I don't think there is the right kind of balance on this forum on this subject.

I think on this topic the discussion has been as balanced as is required. The OO are massive retards who cause huge problems by wanting to walk up roads to antagonise and mock those who live there in order to ensure the catholic residents know who's boss. When they are not allowed up certain roads they go fecking app shit and get all the Travellers they can out to cause as much trouble as possible which the police go ridiculously easy on. At the same time some republicans are also opportunistic and take the chance to either riot on their own or try to get parades banned that they could really let go.

But don't be under any illusion (I don't think you are) that the balance of blame for the trouble in NI every summer is firmly in the side of the OO and the loyalist scumbags that are out to cause as much trouble as possible.

I don't think the people here would deny the opportunism of Republicans and how they conduct themselves, at least I hope not but I don't think it's commented on as much as it is when it's the other side. It's natural as it's the make up of the forum and our opinions are largely shaped on what we've experienced and had I been born on the other side I'm sure I'd see things differently. I just like to see balance and truth. I agree though that loyalists cause the majority of trouble we suffer each summer and it needs to stop. One thing I know for sure is that Sinn Fein love seeing it happen and that's another reason why our politics, if you can even call it that, is so fecked up.

I reckon very few of the posters on here are hard line republicans and TBH the few that expressed views out of order have been banned. We all know there's shit houses on both side and if you want to know the average opinion on Sinn Fein here look through the Irish Politics thread.

I wouldn't debate with people who I thought were hard line republicans. Like you say there's been a few who sailed close to the wind and the ones left are the more sensible ones.

Why can't it be the same as it is in Derry/Londonderry? I'm pretty sure the Orange Order meet with residents and ask permission to march past Catholic areas and all is agreed amicably and everyone goes away happy. There's never any bother over the 12th in Stroke City, afaik.

They want to be upset that's why, it plays to their downtrodden protestant minority complex.

Half of them think having a riot is a good way to spend a weekend.

Good point. The 12th passed off peacefully.

Not sure what this discussion has got to do with NI Terrorism

Rioting is no way on a par with car bombs

It was originally a thread on terrorism, but thankfully there's been few major incidents lately and it has become the de-facto thread for NI issues and politics. Perhaps a name change would be appropriate. At least it seems to be a thread where on the most part people remain calm and respectful while still arguing the toss.

Northern Ireland loyalist issues thread.

With the Fleg and the 12th riots what do you expect? We can only post and comment on what's actually happening and what's being reported on. As I said to you before man read the first few pages of the thread and see if you still think that.

Actually just read the first few pages again and it was all about terrorism and some personal tragedy for a few caf members. Then the flag issue arose and it became the thread it is now. Funnily the first person to actually stir shit in here was The Religion who is also one of the biggest dickheads on these forums, not from Ireland nor does he claim to have an interest in Ireland.

Well it was only last week that guns that were supposedly destroyed during the decommissioning process were discovered. It hasn't been mentioned to my knowledge and actually relates to terrorism. It's clear loyalist issues are quicker jumped upon.

Or it could be that people hadn't heard that. I know this is the first knowledge I have of that so why didn't you post it at the time rather than waiting and complaining after the fact.

If you honestly can read this thread and think that only loyalist issues are condemned then you're an idiot.

I was doing other things at the time.

It could be. But it's strange that people with a clear interest in the situation only pick up on one side of events. Any need for the insult at the end?

It wasn't an insult, it was a point. I've suggested to you many times that you go and read the first few pages of the thread, it'll only take a few minutes and see if the one sided attitude you harp on about then let me know and I'll concede the point.

I went just now to look on the BBC website and I still am not seeing the decommissioned arms story on it's NI homepage whereas the riots in Belfast are all over the news for the past few weeks. That's nothing to do with one sided opinion or interests, it's a case of I can only discuss what I'm aware of and I'm sure it goes for the rest of us.

It was an insult. if I don't believe the same thing you do I'm an idiot. I've read them before.

It was headline news when it happened last week. You may not know about it and in that case I don't expect you to have commented on it but I don't believe that the people on this site so interested in Northern Ireland politics all missed quite big news on guns and Semtex or a Sinn Fein politician obstructing police during an arrest but definitely know when loyalists are rioting. If they aren't it suggests they are only interested in certain news. The proof is in the pudding here. If you'd like to read the story I can provide a link.

Thanks for the link. I'll have a look later, just a few points though.

1) The idiot remark was 'If you honestly can read this thread and think that only loyalist issues are condemned' I stand by that. I've read so many republican atrocities being condemned in this thread and if you or anyone else refuses to acknowledge that then there's something missing between the ears.

2) I don't live in NI and I don't read news papers so unless it's on my FB feed, mentioned here or I pick up on it while surfing BBC site I'll likely not see it. The majority of people who post in this thread who you would see as having a republican viewpoint are not living in NI so I guess would largely be in the same scenario as me.

I never said republican crime was not condemned. I said it's not reported to the same degree. The proof is in the pudding here.

It's also on RTE's website. The guns were found in Dublin.

I never look at the RTE website and with the hours I work I never see the news. Like I said I get my news from word of mouth, FB, here and surfing the net. If I missed something then I apologise.

Anyone who didn't think that a proportion of the IRA decommissioned arms was stashed away by them warmongering scumbags is in cuckoo land. It's not a shock and it's not that important. The act of the actual PIRA putting the vast majority of it's arms and decommissioning itself was the big deal. A few psycho's intent on dragging Ireland back to the dark days hiding a few guns during the process isn't that big a news. Delighted the Guards got the weapons before they got a chance to use them on either Protestant / Catholic people as any right minded person would be.
