Gaming Nintendo Switch

Splatoon 2 testfire on Saturday.. I'm ready for this one.

Holy shit the Master Sword is like cheat mode on the bosses. I got to my first boss with 5 hearts and got smashed. Went off to get hearts and came back with the sword which absolutely canes them. Almost too easy.

Splatoon 2 is getting very good reviews, sitting on 84 at Metacritic at the moment. Definitely day 1 buy for me.

I have been trying to get into Arms online, at first through non-ranked games but I am hopeless. I think it's a bit like Overwatch in that I am going to need to properly learn characters and tactics before I am any good.

BTW one issue I have is WiFi reception strength is poor. While both PS4 and Xbox One in my gaming room have no trouble receiving signal, I cannot really play Switch online while docked in that room and have to either dock it in my living room or just play in handheld mode.

I'd definitely recommend getting a USB to Ethernet adapter for Switch if you're going to play online primarily docked. There's a USB 3 one on Amazon for less than £15 shipped. Going USB 3 and using the port inside the dock gives much better results, about 40% stronger connection.

Why would anyone actually pay attention for reviews regarding Splatoon 2? That's like waiting for reviews on the latest COD or BF.

You either need to play it yourself or ask friends or other gamers how it was because the main focus of the game is the online.

Thanks, I will do that!

Also just found out that my right joycon is loose while connected to the console, I don't need to push the button on the back to get it out. It doesn't really get detached while playing so I won't send it in for repair as that's easily a 3-week wait and I don't want it for something so minor.

Well the reviewers are actually also praising single player, saying it makes very good use of mechanics and is fun to play, serving as a good introduction to the gameplay before jumping into online. Even for the online part it's interesting to hear how mechanics are faring and if modes and maps available at launch are satisfactory.

I did not really play the first one on Wii U so interested, it seems like a very accessible shooter-like game so I feel I am going to like it. Picking it up tomorrow. Haven't really been disapponted with any games so far - Zelda and MK8 are predictably ace and Arms looks fun even if I am finding it quite difficult so far (it's great in local multi though).

I'm still too early in the game but I was wondering where do you fix the swords?

I don't think you can fix swords?

I am also getting back to Zelda now (Switch is getting seriously heavy usage at my home now), still have to beat Van Ruta so I'm not that deep into the game but I only have 5 hearts and on my way to get 6th. BTW how do people get to these obscene 15 or 20 hearts that I have seen? You need 5 spirit orbs to get a container, there are not more than 40 shrines I think and that will only get you 8 extra hearts. Is it all about potions then? But heart containers that you get from potions are not recoverable I think.

To beat Van Ruta I will need at least 10 containers I think.

How do you guys think Fifa 18 will look on the switch?

It's going to be good. I've seen clips of people playing, it's not going to be on par with PS4/Xbox One but pretty close in terms of gameplay. Even though the engine is different, motion movements should be very similar and it looks smooth. It will also have simplified controls scheme where you will be able to play with joy-cons which is going to be proper amazing considering you could play with mates while only carrying the Switch with you.

I think this Christmas time Switch sales will absolutely skyrocket if they can get supply sorted. As it is, they are barely making them available now, this has been tremendous success for Nintendo. I wonder what heights it could hit in the future in terms of sales.

@Snowjoe you know?

@Sarni there is a way to fix swords, seen it on youtube but still don't get it tbh.

There are 120 Shrines in BotW! Best off checking a guide to find locations as some of them are in really obscure places.

120?! Wow!

Shrines are my favorite part probably. The way I am playing this game now is basically walking around trying to find them and complete them. I like their difficulty in that they require you to think, present you with a nice challenge and force you to analyze things but at the same time are not ridiculously difficult and borderline impossible to complete.

I got so much of the world still to discover but I love taking it slow, this game for me is mostly about exploration and story is very secondary.

You can't fix swords, unless there's some glitch I don't know about. However (small spoiler)

each time you beat a divine beast you get access to a new weapon that can be replaced if it breaks or gets lost.

this doesn't really work?

Rusty weapons aren't broken. Rusty weapons are pretty much the worst weapons in the game and this is like a free upgrade for them. But you can't fix a broken weapon this way.
I thought they meant Rust as in the warning you get when they weapon is about to break.

I'm in absolute love with Splatoon 2. I did not play the first one so it's new experience for me and it's perfect. Easy to pick up, games are very quick and smooth, you don't actually need to be good at shooting because the game is about a lot more than that. Also, it looks incredible in handheld mode.

I think it's a good time to pick up Switch for those who are hesitating. When both Mario games and both sports games are out in 2 and 3 months there are not going to be too many of them available around Christmas.

Splatoon is awesome and you'll find Nintendo constantly tweak and add new content.

I have a question, is it wiser to get more hearts first or to buff stamina?

I went stamina, but it really doesn't matter if you get involved with the cooking. You'll soon find plenty to buff both.

Can't stop playing Splatoon 2. I am much better on handheld for some reason.

How do you get the master sword?

Cant wait to start playing. I have the Switch and Splatoon unpacked right next to me, but i need to learn for exams. If i start playing, i wouldnt stop for days

Splatoon 2 is awesome.

Just picked up a Pro Controller today, would definitely recommend one even though the price is pretty steep.

Loving splatoon 2!

Currently level 14 and C rank in ranked matches. I've also unlocked the shirt for 200 points in salmon run but when do we get these items?

Nice! I've stopped at Lv.10 in Regular and haven't touched Ranked yet, I want to get stronger equipment and more practice with the Rollers and Duallies first.

Salmon Run is my favourite mode, you get the items you've earned the next day (roughly). I think the Salmon Run for that day ends at 5am the following morning, so you can claim your rewards after then. I've managed to get the SuperBonus every day so far, but much like the battle modes, if you're playing with randoms then it's all about how good the people on your team are. So many times I get people who don't know what they're doing on Salmon Run and we're crushed at the first hurdle! Devastating to lose all your ranking points

Shoot only have 4 hearts, did you fight any of the divine beasts before obtaining it?

I didn't no, although not on purpose I just spent ages exploring. The master sword on the bosses is pretty much like cheat mode though it's ridiculous.

Hmm, I think I might look for Hylian Shield and then do first boss battle, maybe more fun without the sword.

Fair enough. I was about to go find that shield and accidentally went into the wrong room and triggered the Ganon fight. So I guess I've done the main quest now!

Shovel Knight or Sonic Mania?

I need a 2D game for my Switch in handheld mode as I don't really think games like BotW are suited for that. Shovel Knight looks very interesting, but so does Sonic Mania which comes out next month. Should I wait for Sonic, or is Shovel Knight so good that it can't be ignored?
