Gaming Nintendo 3DS vs PS Vita thread.

Okay so I played 30 seconds of the SSB Demo. I dont really understand what's going on, but I've taken to using a lot of L, R and A to win matches with Mario. Which.. seems to work I guess

The one thing I would say about the DS is it doesn't feel like a games controller. I'm not sure what else it would be, possibly a RC Helicopter controller, but it doesn't have the intricacies of something like the Vita or the PSP. In truth I've never liked the DS/DSi/3DS feel, but it plays Pokemon so I dont really care.

Are they really not going to give the new 3DS a new name?

Anyway. How do you play SSB

....

'New' 3DS is for some reason making it to Australia on November 21st, 2014. Europe and North America have to wait until at least January for it. I'm not too fussed, as I think I'll only buy one when there is a special edition launched (which is unlikely to happen for us right away). I like the Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate version that Japan got, so I'm very hopeful we get some kind of Monster Hunter 4 Bundle too.. It would make a lot of sense to release the console with a game where the C-Stick is almost necessary for optimal game-play, but sense and Nintendo don't always click.

I beg them to release all of the above together in one massive pack... I will gladly pay £250.

In other news, one of my copies of Fantasy Life is on its way (girlfriend is going to have this version so we can play through it on multi-player, I'm downloading it as I still have about £80 on my eShop from winning tournaments). Looks a charming game, I enjoy RPG's and Animal Crossing, it seems to combine those elements. The art-style won't be everyone's cup of tea, but I adore Level-5's art from the likes of Professor Layton and Ni No Kuni, so that's perfect for me too.

Hoping I enjoy the game and get into it, but I feel as though Smash Bros. 3DS will take up a lot of my time after that... Though both games will be shoved aside for Alpha Sapphire in November  and probably some Smash Bros. Wii U as well... And then the Mario Kart DLC is released also, and Monster Hunter early next year... Damn it. There goes all my spare time.

 Apparently the game was definitely 100% in the case when they posted it. So it's magically popped out of the box, and escaped from the envelope without leaving a mark anywhere.

Also that PS3 controller I bought has gone missing. I'm not having much luck this week.

Who did you buy it off?

The master thief postal worker and Resident Evil fan with x-ray vision strikes again!
That bastard.

Who did you buy it off?
Cash Generator. I've bought some retro games from there in the past and they were alright, I guess the service varies though since everything's from different stores. Probably wont use them again though, unless I see a ridiculous bargain.

I bought Paper Mario Sticker Star yesterday and that arrived today, so at least that's one positive purchase story. Looking forward to playing it, really like what I've seen from the few videos I've watched.

I was really mixed with Paper Mario Sticker Star. It's definitely not as good as The Thousand Year Door on the GameCube, not anywhere close. My main gripes with the game were lack of direction and difficulty finding certain stickers/objects (aka things) to progress. The game will also rarely give you many clear hints to what kind of sticker you need for a certain area and you may not have found the 'thing' to turn into a sticker yet, which results in lots of re-exploring past areas as I guarantee you will never have fully explored an area even when you think you have. The back-tracking in TTYD on GameCube was something I didn't mind due to how the game was set up, but Sticker Star follows more of a New Super Mario Bros. style map which has just been used to death on so many Nintendo games recently that it bores me.

The upside is the battles are still fun despite not being very difficult and it still has some of the humour.

On another note, my list of still not fully complete 3DS games is...

Luigi's Mansion 2
Bravely Default
Kirby Triple Deluxe

Then, there's games that I got on the cheap / free and may never even start..

Mario & Luigi Dream Team Bros (I really do want to find time for this at some point)
Fire Emblem Awakening
Virtue's Last Reward
Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D
Mario Tennis Open
Super Street Fighter IV
Ridge Racer 3D
Steel Diver

My girlfriend also plays 3DS, but she never finishes a game, and I try to play them with her / multiplayer when possible. The list is Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask, Professor Layton and the Azran Legacy, Yoshi's New Island, Professor Layton vs Phoenix Wright, Zelda A Link Between Worlds, and Zelda Ocarina of Time. (I think we did finish both the Layton games, as well as the ones on the regular DS).

Games that I 'did' complete (though some of them don't really have what you'd class as a traditional completion):

Pokémon Y
Animal Crossing
New Super Mario Bros. 2
Mario Kart 7
Super Mario 3D Land
Monster Hunter 3: Ultimate
Paper Mario Sticker Star
Resident Evil Revelations

And if you've read all this, congratulations :) I won't bore you with the whole host of downloaded eShop games...

I got the guide book for 1p about a year ago so hopefully that will come in handy if I find the lack of hints a bit tricky.

The only 3DS games I've completed so far are NSMB2, 3D Land and Pilotwings. I don't really finish many games in general these days though (well, I do but not straight away), just end up going between different ones all the time. Well, I finish them eventually, just usually :o

Also, thanks for posting those lists and highlighting out to me even more games I haven't got yet

@Havak I love virtues last reward. Definitely worth a play!

@Olly resident evil is on sale for about 11 quid on the e-shop if you have to give up on your current purchase. I know you like physical copies, but it was worth a mention.

Cool thanks :) I think I'll get a copy off eBay when I get my refund for the other one though, after having the other one (minus the game), it looks too good on the shelf to not have physically

Smash Bros getting very good reviews considering. The Wii U scores are going to be amazing aren't they?

I'm going to have to watch a youtube video on how to play SSB. I dont understand it at all

At the moment I'm playing my favourite Nintendo Catch them all game:

Ebaying 3DS Games! I just watched Link between Worlds shoot up from £16.00 to £25.00 + £1.50 P&P in the last few seconds.... bastards, you might as well buy it new!

There always seems to be people that like spending certain amounts at auctions when you can find plenty of copies for lower prices on BIN listings or at shops. Makes no sense to me.

What's a bin listing? I hate going to the shops though, that's my problem. I'm used to things being cheaper online. It shouldn't be the other way round damnit!

But It Now.

Yeah buying stuff online is much easier. But still, 99% of the auctions I see (of games anyway since that's what I look at mostly), there's plenty of other places to get the same game cheaper. I think people just enjoy the excitement of bidding.

I now win nearly all my single player games on my SSB demo. Woo.

Is it like any other games? Obviously it looks like there's a lot of Animal Crossing type stuff, but any other games mixed in?

It's quite like a bog-standard RPG in most places (hack and slash, not turn-based). At the moment though, all I can do to attack in a battle is hit 'A' which does one combo of three attacks. There is an 'X' attack as well, but I can't use that yet (I would assume it is most likely magical attacks or perhaps weapons other than daggers/swords, but not sure yet). 'Y' lets you change target as you often find yourself in situations where you're fighting three or more enemies at once.

The game focuses more on you ranking up your 'Life' though, as I've only found one area in the game thus far where you can fight things (but it does seem like quite a large area, I've only explored bits of it). You can only take your weapon out when you're in an area like this, by pressing 'A'.

The 'Life' options are what makes it different from other games. I've gone for a Miner first and haven't done anything else, so I can only speak for this Life so far. You basically do what it says on the tin, mine for ore and gems, make money (which is why I went for Miner first, as more money and materials should help all other Lifes). The best part is that you can go and change your Life whenever you want to, while still keeping all of the skills, stat points, and materials etc from your previous Life. You'll have to do a Tutorial for each of them though as there will be different game-play and techniques for every one.

I've only played a couple of hours, but they have been very brief with what the story is. They probably just want you to focus on levelling up and doing all the early Quests first. Obviously, my Quests have been very easy thus far (basically things such as mine ore so many times, collect so many of a certain item etc). You also meet a butterfly character who stays with you throughout the game and helps out. You rank up in different ways, with EXP boosting your Level, Stars boosting the Rank of your Life, and Bliss allowing you to purchase what I'd describe as 'Key Items' or household things like Animal Crossing, or even a Pet which I will definitely get at some point  You get EXP from defeating enemies and doing your job (for me, mining). You get Stars from completing Quests, and you can get Bliss in a whole host of ways. Flutter (your talking butterfly thing) has its own requests and you get Bliss for those, but you also get it for playing the game for so long (I got some for reaching an hour gameplay) and visiting more areas of the game etc.

The similarity to Animal Crossing lies in that you have your own house which you can decorate, or get a new one/expand, you get letters in your mail box from various characters, you can collect fruit from shaking trees... And some of the Lifes such as Fishing and Carpenter will have similar gameplay.

It has Multiplayer, both local and online, but I haven't tried those yet.

Sounds interesting :) Probably not the kind of game I'll get right away, but maybe in the future when it's a little cheaper and I've seen a little more of it.

When I downloaded Rainbow Moon for my Vita, the 2nd file(update, patch or whatever) didn't download. When I went to retry it, I fatfingered and hit cancel, now it's gone from my download list. Any idea how I'd find it again, to retry, without having to reload the whole game?
