Gaming Nintendo 3DS vs PS Vita thread.

Alright cheers.

I'm not sure if you saw my post on the previous page, but just in case you missed it;

There's the "New 3DS/New 3DS XL" coming out next year, so prices might go down a bit more then. Perhaps not by much though. Those new ones have a better CPU, more buttons and improved 3D, so if you're interested in those then you might want to wait for one of them. http://www.siliconera.com/2014/08/29/new-nintendo-3ds-new-nintendo-3ds-xl-announced-powerful/

Yeah I saw it, sorry I didn't reply. Not sure if I want to wait for the new 3DS to come out for the prices to come down, and if when it comes out I do want one, then I'll probably just save up fro a bit and then trade in the 3DS. I'd prefer to get the 3DS sooner rather than later I think.

Cool, that sounds like a good plan :)

Tell you what @Twigg if you're comfortable giving me your address you can have a 3DS really soon and really free. It's only sat in my drawer.

Totally understand if you don't want to though, this is the internet after all

Wooo, Bought a 3DS! Can anyone recommend me some games?
Nice! :)

Check out Luigi's Mansion 2, it's great.

A game that nobody really ever mentions is PilotWings Resort. It's not a must-have that's packed full of content or anything, but I really like it. I've seen it quite often for around a fiver so would definitely recommend it at that price.

Also I haven't played it all yet, but what I've played of Paper Mario Sticker Star I like it a lot. Also got to second the 3D Land recommendation, it's so good.

Hows it rank compared to the original

Oh sorry I thought the original was N64

Haven't played that one so can't say how it compares.

What do the people say: are either of these things suitable for an 8 year old?

I have seen games that are rated 0, 6 and 12, so I presume there are plenty available for someone of 8.

What I am interested in knowing is whether there are parental controls that can be put in place on access to the outside world (you tube, browser etc all seem to bbe available on one or the other console).

Furthermore, any Dads or Mums have anything to chime in regarding kids using these things and any negative consequences?

Thinking of getting my boy one, but 1) they are not cheap and 2) how severe are the tantrums gonna be when the agreed 1, max 2 hours playing time per day (weekends only) is reached and the thing needs to be switched off?

So looking back over the thread I see that the interests of an 8 year old are fairly well covered. Who'd a thunk it?!

The 3DS has parental controls, you can see info about them here. I think the Vita probably does too, but I don't know anything about that.

@Randall Flagg has kids and both of these I think so he might be able to help.

Yeah, Vita has Parental Controls too. From it you can block any of the following features:
  • Browser
  • PlayStation Store
  • Location Data
You can block access to certain games depending on their rating and you can also restrict playing time per day to whatever you wish.

You can password protect things like purchases etc... But probably best just to leave him offline

Get 3ds and mario games and you won't go wrong

Just make it clear from the off the limits. And every now and then reward him with an extra 5 or so mins if he does well with it. Mine are only 3 and 5 and they know the routine and occasionally I might get a bit of sad face, but generally you'll find if you are constant with it he'll fall into line ;)

Or just threaten to wipe saves. That works too.

Persona Q coming up in three days, think I'm going to swipe that dust off of my 3DS (not been traveling much recently so I use PS4 far more).

Vita randomly stopped charging. Looked online and others had same issue saying they opened theirs and reseated the battery cable and it worked okay then... yeah, doing that was a bad idea for me.
