Ah I dunno, could be. I'm not that up on all the game "journalists" like some people seem to be ![Tongue :p :p](data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7)
I was going getting Batman, Dragons Crown, and one or two more, but stopped. Your move Sony.
Played the Bravely Default demo a little bit. I have no idea what I'm doing. I really need to try and learn some things about RPGs, because apart from the odd few I have no idea how to play them.
I think with most RPGs it's the turn based battles/random encounters that annoy me. I think the battles take me away from the game too much generally. With action RPGs, games like Secret of Mana I can enjoy because you fight the enemies as you go, so it all seems like part of the adventure without going in and out of fights all the time.I didn't realise there was a demo out, I will download it promptly.
I used to have no clue about RPGs, now it's one of my favourite genres. You need time to get used to mechanics in every game but once you get the hang of it it becomes a spectacular experience.
I wonder when I'm going to have my Zelda delivered. Next Friday would be a decent bet but I'm hoping it'll be sooner - perhaps shipping on Wednesday and delivery on Thursday.
Probably just a case of getting them all out in time for the busy shopping weeks, and the added bonus of someone buying those games instead of an Xbox.Nintendo are fecking crazy. I can understand if they don't feel like the Xbox One launch consumers are generally the same market, but they're pitting 3 games against eachother.
Zelda and Mario Party on 2/3DS and Mario Land on Wii U.
I don't think anybody gives a shit about Mario Party.

Yep, I really enjoy the Pokemon games, but I enjoy them even more when I've got loads of repelBut you're a massive Pokemon fan, right? :P
I don't know what I prefer, I think it depends on what kind of game I want to play.Btw.. I've only ever played a little bit of 2D Zelda in my life. I'd ask am I missing out but I know what the answer will be.
Any of you out there prefer the 2D Zeldas over the 3D ones?
I don't know what I prefer, I think it depends on what kind of game I want to play.
What 2D one have you played?
Yep, I really enjoy the Pokemon games, but I enjoy them even more when I've got loads of repelToo frequent random encounters annoy me in Pokemon too. The turn based battles are alright though as I actually know what the feck I'm doing most of the time.
That's the most different Zelda game of allActually, I lied. I played 2, but one was only on a friends GBA and I believe it was A Link to the Past? I got one on my own GBA because of it, just done some research and it was Zelda 2: Adventure of Link. I never got into it, and instead played Pokemon, Wario and for some reason Shaun Palmer Snowboarding.
I have Mass Effect 2 but I literally nearly fell asleep when I played it. Couldn't enjoy it at all. Don't remember playing any other western RPGs.This is more of an issue with JRPGs though. What about Western RPGs?
That's the most different Zelda game of allIf you didn't give LttP a proper go, you should do that. Also play Link's Awakening. Those two are probably the best places to start with 2D Zelda.
Did you get the Ambassador 3DS games? If so, you should download Minish Cap. While perhaps not as great as the previous ones I mentioned, it's another good one to play.

The annoying thing is, when I see a JRPG, for example Dragon Quest VI that I got about a year ago, I like the style of the game, I like the music, I like walking around doing things and going to the different places, I like most of it... but then when I'm walking somewhere, a gang of knobhead monsters pop up out of nowhere, kills me straight away. Then after the game restarts and I make my way back there again, they show up once more, I might luckily kill them, but then I take three more steps and their stronger mate pops up and kills me because my health is so low from the previous battle.
Don't blame me. I just put 'Dear Santa, Pokeball Zelda Gameboy Go' or something - maybe with a picture.
I know that obviously it's the same franchise and it's still Link and you still have Princess Zelda and what not, but do you really stand them together when you think about it? To me, 3D and 2D Mario are still both Mario - they're both platformers at the end of it. But 2D and 3D Zelda seem wildly different from where I'm sitting, but then I haven't really played the 2D ones.
Yep.Yeah.. I agree completely actually, the random battle sequences have always been a barrier for me enjoying a JRPG. Obviously, I've got into plenty and loved them - but it's always been something which miffed me off and occasionally stopped me from playing a game. They can't win with me either, they're either forced and you feel it's the same every time (same enemy, same place, same time, fight goes pretty much the same way except dice rolls) or they feel so random that it's unpredictable and a game of luck.
They're especially annoying when you're simply traveling and don't want to be halted every few steps (especially in an area you've already been to and cleared) or when you're on some already tedious side-quest and these battles are just prolonging it. In the games where you can skip, you're just spend loading up a fight to flee it again and wasting a ton of time so you'd rather just do the battle than waste your time constantly fleeing.
What was the Pokemon game where you could drink a potion to ignore random encounters? Or is it on all of them (haven't played the recent ones).
I've always though that the 2D and 3D Zelda games are their own thing. While the characters and overall ideas might be similar I think each one delivers a totally different experience. I think that with most games though. Even with Mario I think that both are quite different.
Yep.
I think I'll try to stick to action RPGs for the most part. Still need to restart Secret of Mana some time.
Repel. That's in all of them, and I use them a lot![]()
I have it sitting on my shelf but I haven't played it yet. Been meaning to get to it though. You should play Secret of Mana, I reckon (based on absolutely nothing at all) that you would enjoy it.Have you played X Chronicles on Wii? That would probably be somewhat better. I haven't played Secret of Mana, infact I know nothing about it. I love Dragon Quest though, especially 8.
I'd just say wait for the new one now that it's close, and if you enjoy it then go back and try some of the others after.Yeah, that's the impression I get from it. I really should try out the 2D Zeldas sometime. Reckon I should go back and try out some of the older titles then like you suggested earlier or just go ahead and grab the new one?
REPEL! That's the one. Yeah, I'd have put a lot less time into Pokemon without it.
Atleast the encounters in Pokemon have some meaning to them. In other games, they need to give me a reason to care about these encounters, but I've rarely felt 'oh, please run into some dude so I can try out that new spell/combat move'.

I guess some people enjoy the random battles for leveling up, experience and all that, but I'm not one of them.
Oh that's cool and handy, didn't know it was on there.Just looked it up, it looks interesting for sure. I'll make sure to check it out, apparently it's available on the virtual console too
Yeah, I'll pick it up for sure. Will buy it straight after I finish Wind Waker, I've been wanting to replay that game for so long!
What about Mother 3? I know you played Earthbound. Can you imagine that/Earthbound in a 3D style? That'd be awesome I think.
Oh that's cool and handy, didn't know it was on there.
They were working on a 3D Earthbound for the N64, but ended up doing Mother 3 instead - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EarthBound_64
Yeah that's the one. They should totally do it - they could do it with 2d cut-scenes too.
Mother 3 was crazy, that's the one where you can sync your combat with the beat of the music right? Like nobody has ripped that off yet!
Ok, so I just played DQ VI for a few minutes and figured I better ask for some help instead of moaning like the other day. How am I supposed to beat multiple enemies in a battle? If it's just two or maybe three then that's ok, but just now I encountered four arseholes, and each of them dealt 5-6 damage to me straight after each other. Before I even get to my turn that's half of my HP gone. Even if I do get to attack I only get do deal a tiny bit of damage to one of them before they all attack me again, and after the second wave of attacks, or maybe third if I'm lucky, I'm dead.
Yeah the stats are kept. Didn't know that actually, had to play it and find out.Do you keep your stats when you restart?
