I haven't got Fire Emblem yet. Apart from Advance Wars which is awesome I haven't got into the whole strategy genre of games so I'm not sure whether I'd enjoy it. I'll probably get it some time though.
The demo is good. Not sure whether to get the game or not though as I have no idea if I'm playing it rightProject X Zone looks good as well. Damn you video games and your ability to eat into my wallet.
As far as strategy games go, Fire Emblem is beyond special. I literally disappeared from here for a couple of days once I got my copy. Played it every spare minute. Still have some of the DLC to cut through, though. Picking who you wanted to marry to who was a lot of fun too. Of course there's strategy to that too, but rather than that, I was pairing up odd couples for the most part, or pairs who's encounters I as really enjoying.
Nowi is probably the best fighter in the game once trained, and you get the Dragonstone Plus. I have her basically murderstomping everything. Donnel can be made pretty unstoppable too. I did like Panne, think I had her as an assassin for ages, or a thief or something. Gaius is who I joined he with, he's one of my faves too, and they're a pretty class combo. It's an incredible game. I am past Chapter 20 with slightly more than 12 hours on the clock but possibly double that already invested in the game since it doesn't register the time you spend failing to complete a level as you need to reload the save to have another try. Panne and Libra are my favourite characters, they are incredibly powerful and win most of the battles for me, Nowi also comes handy though. Do you play in the mode that makes you lose your characters on the battlefield? I don't, I can't imagine how that'd be supposed to work, I usually lose 2-3 characters during the battle.

I didn't bother with the perma-death either, though I have played an older Fire Emblem where you don't have the option to turn it off. You should have plenty of spare characters, especially late on once the relationship missions kick in. You can get more via DLC too, but I don't think they can be trained, but are usually awesome as they are.
Oh yeah, the kids are absolute beasts, but by that stage it was too dang easy so I stuck with the old guard. Plus, to get the kids proper beasty you have to be careful to get galeforce and the like. Too damn lazy for that when Nowi, Donnel, Avatar, Tharja, and a few others one shot everything anyway.Nowi is strong for the first gen, the childrens absolutely trash every non-avatar fighters though. Imagine an entire team with galeforce and enhanced stats
I'll advise everybody to train the avatar in merchanary class to access to armsthrift, you'll get unlimited usage of legendary weapons/tomes when your luck is high enough.
Similar, but I've read that Advance Wars battles have strict patterns, making them almost puzzles. Fire Emblem the enemies often move more freely, or react to what you do.I'm thinking of getting Fire Emblem. Is it similar to advance wars style of gaming?
I see everyone's developing different characters in the game. I've not gone much into marriages yet, I've only reached B-level support for a few characters. I'm not too advanced in this game and I've not gone into classes etc., I'm at chapter 21 with a few characters maxed out and that's all. I've managed to squeeze past chapter 21 mainly thanks to Nowi/Chrom, Sayri/Kellam, Panne/Lonqu and Anna/Henry pairs and Libra healing them up and beating the occassional enemy, I paid her with my character or Vaike. Panne/Lonqu was extremely tough to beat for Valmese so they ended up approaching the boss in the end, Sayiri is also an extremely powerful character and Kellam provides defensive cover when used as the second person in the pair. The whole pairing up system worked extremely well.
I'll probably try to develop some more characters when I finish the game. It's 25 chapters long plus DLC and 25 side stories, right? What happens after the main story has finished, can I still play and have fun?

I've bottled the maxing out thing by not playing any side battles that appear in various locations until Chapter 11 (the one where you face Gangrel) I think where I got stuck and absolutely had to max out to stand any sort of a chance. They're a bit expensive, I got some, I wouldn't buy DLC for most games though!
They're handy, one is a mission where you make lots of gold, one lots of exp, one lots of chances to boost relationships, they really help with grinding.
I'm going home from work in 10 minutes to see if Donkey Kong has been delivered, it better be, it's already been a week since I ordered it!

Out of stock now though, apparently.
The design and build quality is a huge improvement on the original 3DS. Really like how it looks and plays.
