Gaming Nintendo 3DS vs PS Vita thread.

Decorations!

If you like, this game isn't a very deep game. It's a game that you play for about 30 minutes every now and then (unless you are island farming for bells, which can take hours). It's mundane, but charming. It's about decorating your town and house - kind of like The Sims or Sim City (the good ones), in a way - utterly pointless, but adorable.

Or, in another way, it shouldn't be your only 3DS game. I don't think it's the best 3DS game out there, but it's one you don't play for hours and hours, days and days - this game will burn you out quickly if you try that (in fact, barring island farming, it's almost deliberate that you run out of things to do in an hour or so in the game - I think this is intentional).

Yeah, its definitely not my only 3DS game. I bought it yesterday because everyone in here has been talking about it, so I'm still figuring my way around the place, planting trees and shit. Apparently my villagers want me to have more greenery in order for me to be able to get planning permission for whatever.....

I've also got Luigi's Mansion 2 to get started on.

Finally getting a 3DS today!

Im getting Mario Kart 7, Mario 3D Land and Resident Evil for sure but im stuck between getting Monster Hunter, Fire Emblem or Kid Icarus!. I know Fire Emblem gets great reviews (and looks fantastic) but Monster Hunter looks like my sort of game, doing quests and hunting monsters while farming for gear I can see myself playing it for hours.

Anybody who's played Monster Hunter before can recommend the game or shall I just go with Fire Emblem? Also I know Animal Crossing is decent but none of my friends have a 3DS so is it still worth getting without much options of multi player?

Did you get the XL/Where did you get it from/how much did you pay? Looking at getting one soon, although I'm slightly curious about the Vita considering I'll almost certainly be getting a PS4.

The Vita's pretty amazing, though it doesn't have near the immense game collection that the DS/3DS has.

Still has a few excellent ones, if they'd have done something to you could transfer your UMD's, or something, they'd be a fair bit closer.

Plus, it doesn't have the new Pokemon games coming out in a few months

They have a great deal on at Blockbuster for the limited edition white Mario kart 7 3DS pack for £150 (around £210 elsewhere) but they didn't have any left in my local store and couldn't be bothered waiting for online delivery so I ended up buying a blue 3DS XL for £140 from Asda. I paid £70 for Monster Hunter and Fire Emblem and had £30 in free vouchers for Argos so decided to get Animal Crossing. I activated the offer Nintendo was running and got Luigi's Mansion 2 for free as well so all in all I got the 3DS and 4 games for around £210 due to a couple of offers I had available.

Yup! Oh how I can't wait for that.

Especially after
the new fairy type being announced, and super effective against dragons, Gardevoir gonna kick the feck out of some, ohh yeah!

Now they've announced a XY 3DS XL in red or blue, could get that. I tried one once, and while I love my regular 3DS, the XL seems better, not just in screen size, but overall quality.

Yeah, if I do buy one it will almost definitely be an XL. They were about £119 on Amazon and Tesco recently but have since gone back up to £149. If they reduce in a similar fashion in the near future then it'll probably push me to finally give in and buy one. My friend from work also bought one recently and is bringing it in on Tuesday so I can take a look. I had an original DS but got completely bored of it, I played nothing other than Pokemon really.

I think GAME have lost faith in the Vita for now. They were selling brand new Vita's for £169 with an 8gb Memory Card and a voucher code that lets you download TEN games for the console. A very silly price that anyone would snap at even when the current library of games is lacking. Here's the games you get with it, all for that price:

  • LittleBigPlanet PS Vita
  • WipeOut 2048
  • MotorStorm RC
  • Little Deviants
  • Frobisher Says!
  • Ecolibrium
  • Ratchet and Clank: Size Matters
  • Lemmings
  • Hungry Giraffe
  • The HD Adventures of Rotating Octopus Character

Some decent games there! Wipeout is always class, and I'm sure Motorstorm is at the usual class(have Arctic Edge on mine, immense game for 3 bucks). Hell I'd assume they're all worth at least a play.

Definitely sounds like a clear out and lets not be fecked with them any more, kind of situation. Shame really, immense piece of machinery(even if I'm not pushed about the touch screen/pad stuff), just needs a few developers to have proper faith in it.

I'm not sure about it being given up on, they're certainly going to revitalise it once it becomes a tool to use alongside your PS4.

Looking at the PS Plus and sales.

Starting on the 3rd, Ninja Gaiden Sigma Plus(any good?) and Unit 13(already have it, luckily I got it cheap anyway) are the free games.

Some good games for cheap too, probaby pick up Assassins Creed Bloodlines and Sega Mega Drive Collection(Phantasy Star:drool:) despite having UMDs of both.

Persona 2 and 3 are 13 euro each, and a lot of Disney games are up cheap. Tekken 6 for 4:50, Metal Gear Solid and Peacewalker are up, F1 2009, Prince of Persia Forgotten Sands/Rival Swords/Revelations, Ghost Recon. Any of these(besides the Persona's of course) worth picking up?

Virtua Tennis 4 is 18 bucks, but I dunno would it be my cup of tea, only Tennis game I ever really played was Anna Kournikova's Smash Court Tennis, lot of fun on multiplayer, IIRC. FM Handheld 2013 is 13.50, IIRC that was quite expensive when I first got my Vita.

I've gone for that £169 Vita deal. Finally time to use all those Vita/PSP games I've got from PS Plus.

I really want that Fire Emblem XL but it's too expensive at the moment.

Is it worth shelling out £100+ on? What are the improvements that the XL has on the standard 3DS?

Larger screen, much better battery and it's so much more comfortable to hold it as compared to the 3DS. And it's matte so no more smudges unlike the glossy surface of the originial 3DS which pissed me off to no end.

The hinges are smoother and sturdier, the start/select and power buttons are nicer, and the rim of the touchscreen doesn't press against the main screen leaving smudges and lines on it.

It's all minor stuff, but it makes the regular 3DS feel more like an early model/prototype, and the 3DS XL just seem the more polished machine.

It does, it makes it so annoying for people who buy the new handheld consoles when they're first released as you know Nintendo will come out with a improved version a year down the road which makes it so much better.

Yep, it's a great game.

Anyone know if I can pause a download and turn off my Vita completely, and continue the download tomorrow?

I dont think so, the closest you'll get is if the Vita goes to sleep itself, it will pause the download and continue it the next day (but you have to make sure it sleeps of its own accord, rather than you putting it into sleep mode)

I think its quicker to actually download them to the PS3 (assuming you have the PS3?) and do a wire transfer to the Vita anyway

I should have done the PS3 deal(I do indeed have one), I could even have left that on if the download was taking too long.

This one, I have 945 of 1326, says it'll take 45 mins, but I want to go to bed, heh.

Shockingly, it was only when the scientist mentioned it that I registered what 'DS' stands for . It never clicked to me that it was 'Dual Screen'
