Gaming Nintendo 3DS vs PS Vita thread.

And buy two more batteries because current one only lasts about 3 hours.

Anyway, been playing Zelda yesterday - is it just me or is it a very hard game? Literally half of the quests take a while to figure out and there are no clue. A part of me loves that, a part of me despises.

You can't change VITA's battery can you? That's why I looked puzzled.

Indeed. So I am stuck with 3-hour battery life. I blame modern society, 3DS barely lasts 3.5 hours with 3D on.

Amazon have an offer on the Vita. Wifi console for 197, then get a 8gb memory card for 20 quid, then a choice of games for 15 quid, including FIFA.

£232 for Wifi Vita, Fifa Football, and an 8gb memory card seems a good buy to me. I'm going to ponder this all tonight. Bit of luck I'll be drunk enough later on to order it without hesitation :D

Wasn't really interested - got a PSP/DS that I don't really play and a PS3 / 360, on which I have superior versions of most of the Vita games.

But with 'price wars' meaning the console was under £200 and I desperately want to play Uncharted, I thought I'd have a look - £32 for an 8gb card, which is scandalous. Add in the cost of Uncharted being £45 in GAME (I've since seen it's £30 in Morrisons but there isn't one close to me) and the price is closer to £300 to play on one game - no thanks.

Hoping for a 3DS style price crash, when I'll get one.

Not happening!

Probably, but until it does or an improved model (with better battery life), I'm sire there'll be a lot of people that will be waiting.

I desperately want it to succeed - the future of downloadable 69p games with no story or production 'values' will make me quit gaming - but the cost of the games is just far too expensive.

Surely an Uncharted engine developed over 3 PS3 games would result in a decreased development cost on the Vita one - possibly horseshit but.....

Either way, my weak suggests I'll be getting one very soon anyway.

As expected - ordered.

Can't wait now!

Send me your PSN once you get it and we'll play some FIFA mate. We could set up an exclusive FIFA Vita league where only the two of us will participate and get all the medals.

Eventually caved in an bought a 3ds for £90 from amazon. Too good a price. They might revise the 3ds at some point but if they do i'll trade it and my older ds. The vita, for me - too costly. I think both will be a success though. They both have the controls down - now it's up to the quality of games.

I don't know why the bickering. No one can replace your enjoyment you take out of whatever system you choose to use. That's what counts. None of us are on the payroll. feck it. Hope it comes this week

I agree. Sony have been quite aggressive with the memory card prices. I bought my 3ds for 90 but Nintendo know who they're competing against. I think some people will have to look to the second hand market

I can't find it on amazon for that price!

yeah it was sold by a amazon seller. It wasn't not dispatched by amazon. That's the only reason I bit the bullet because 134 etc..bit too much. There are deals there to be had. I see one for 107 - not '100% new' but dispatched by Amazon. Think I saw a 30 days return policy too.

People are always kinda hmm about the second hand market but the ds/dsi/3ds are well constructed. I bought my dsi second hand and it's pretty much perfect. Just a pity, the console itself isn't THAT good :(

I just bought F1 2011 for Vita and the graphics are  It would have been bad for a PSP game, for a Vita game it's absolutely outrageous.

Yeah mate definitely. Been dispatched with 1st class delivery so hoping to get it tomorrow, once I've set it up I'll hit you up with the credentials and away we go!

I'm pretty excited tbh :D

Sony are selling each unit for a healthy profit though aren't they? Surely if the sales for eu and us are like the Japanese sales, it'll force their hand.

As far as I know, for the 3G unit, the BOM is around $160 (say 100 quid), then you've got to add assembly/manufacturing costs, packaging costs, logistical costs, advertising costs, retailer margin, and then VAT (could be as high as 50 quid I suppose).

Say the VAT is 44 quid, giving 236, and that retailer margin is 8%, giving 217 quid it costs the retailer to buy it. If that BOM number of 100 quid is right, then assembly, packaging costs, logistics, and marketing need to take a slice out of 117 quid. What that is I have no clue, but when you take it off, that's what Sony is earning on each VITA sold in the UK as long as we don't take the price of the YEN into consideration.

I need to sell F1 as quick as possible before people realise it's an iPhone game ported to Vita. I mean it handles well and it's a shame because it could be a good game if it had respectable graphics. It's painful this way.

Sarni, wanna hook me up with your ID for some FIFA sometime?

If they will do anything to make it more attractive, they will keep the price the same but start to bundle it with a game and a 4GB memory card, which if you are a serious user you'll have to go and buy a bigger one anyway.

Okay, been playing on it near enough all day. Some impressions so far;

Love the looks, feel and build quality of the console itself.
Screen is beautiful. Lovely, bright, clear and very responsive with the touch gestures.
The OS is good, bit of a copy of iOS mixed in with the PS3 OS. But it works, pretty damn well.
Love the integration of all your PS friends, along with trophies and such. The Near thing is quite cool as well, and will take off more with time. Not used the group messaging, or the party or things like that yet. But looks good enough
Managed to set up the content management thing with my mac and it works cool. Able to copy files from your laptop over to your Vita from your Vita, just by plugging it in, browse your files on your laptop with ease and choose what you want to copy.
Battery on it isn't great, charged it twice today, but not a problem as I'm gonna play it at home most of the time anyway. When I'm out, I won't need more than the 3.5 hours or whatever it is anyway.
The whole augmented reality game thing, with Table Football and Cliff Diving or whatever it's called seems pretty good, but didn't really work properly when I tried it. Might have to give it a proper go in daylight.
Played the Rayman demo and it's fecking brilliant. I'm going to have to buy it, loved the old Raymans, and this is just as good. FIFA, as expected, is ace and I've wasted hours on it already. The rear touchpad shooting thing is brilliant

Overall, it's a brilliant bit of kit and hands down the best handheld console on the market imo

Wanna download some games, but don't really wanna fill up my 8GB memory card. May just wait till some 3rd party companies bring out some 64GB ones for a lot cheaper.

Downloading games from PSN or SEN whatever it's called now should work as it does with the PS3. Download them (on PS3 or PC), stick them on your memory card, delete them off memory card, stick them back on memory card again. They will always be there no matter what on your PSN account to download again.

Didn't quite think of it like that to be fair. But still would be nice having a bigger memory card and not have to worry about deleting and redownloading when I want to play something different. But I'll do that for now though!

Sarni, I'll add you now, I'm 'TheSw33t' on PSN (incase you didn't know it was me, lawl)

Because of Weaste's relentless, shameless viral marketing I now have a vita too. Feeling the remorse strongly atm.

I have to say it's a great device though I knew I'd hate the fact that they make you touch the screen for everything. The greasy fingerprints annoy me no end. Why don't they give you the option to use the perfectly fine analog sticks, buttons and dpad to navigate through menus? It has to be implemented at some point because it's ridiculous.

Anyway, contrary to Sarni it took me only a couple of minutes to download and install the firmware and it was good to go. So far I've got only Uncharted but I'll be getting Super Stardust, Lumines and probably Rayman.
Uncharted looks impressive, even if it lacks AA.

So, I've contributed to the success of this sony handheld... now turd party developers - start making games!

You probably have faster connection then although I was downloading it on a launch day so there was plenty of traffic.

Got Stardust and Escape Plan today. Impressive for ~$10 games.

How's escape plan? I'm thinking of getting that too. Any loading time problems or anything else?

Me three, I bought a £15 PSN card thingy today and was looking at Escape Plan and possible Motorstorm RC. What's Escape Plan like?

Any other highly rated PSN games for Vita about? Seen the Mutan Blob thingy one, looks okay, but I dunno.

Any of those likely to reach these shores? I've seriously tempted to pick one up after selling mine almost a year ago.

No idea. Japan have already got a lot of 3DS designs though (Dragon Quest, MGS, Monster Hunter, Kingdom Hearts, SD Gundam, Love Plus and more) so hopefully with so many some of them will make it over.

I bought Uncharted for the Vita today. The graphics are incredible! I'm about an hour into it so far and I'm very impressed.
