Gaming Nintendo 3DS vs PS Vita thread.

Just been watching about the FIFA controls on it. The point to shoot stuff with the back touch screen is soooooo cool.

EA shows off FIFA Vita touch controls • Trailer • Eurogamer.net

I'm tempted >_>

It's fantastic but I am having trouble using my left finger so I end up shooting to the right corner most of the time. Controls are generally fantastic and make it a new experience, the touch passing is fantastic as well.

I am already 22 games into a career season with United and haven't skipped a single one. I basically pop it on whenever I feel like it - at school, in a mall etc. Great.

The vita shits all over the 3ds and this is coming from a diehard Nintendo fan.

Sarni, don't know if you'd know. but how do the graphics on FIFA compare to the PSP versions and the iPhone/iPad versions, if you've seen them of course?

I never played PSP version but it looks similar to iPhone 4 version, especially on 4S where it looks slightly better than on a normal 4. Still better though, basically slightly below PS3. Gameplay is miles ahead of iOS though, I am finishing season right now and it's every bit as good as full console version.

Define 'shits all over', if you mean graphics and technicalities then yes, that was going to be obvious before either model was revealed. Games wise its too early to tell but I'd pretty certain Nintendo will come out on top again.

The DS was overwhelmingly successfully meaning it'll be enough to carry sales for its successor.

Oh and this is coming from a Nintendo 'hater' ;)

from what I've seen around the net it looks much better than the iphone version, almost ps2 vs ps3 graphics

Btw I never really understood why sale numbers matter so much to some people.
Not only we're becoming more and more brainwashed consumers, some of us end up celebrating corporation profits, which I find particularly baffling.

In simplified terms, sale numbers force the hand of publishers/developers. I.e. if they see a particular console selling by the bucket load then they'll be more inclined to produce games for those formats. Its why consoles like the PS2 and DS had such a huge games library - the huge sale numbers attracted rich 3rd party support. You could argue its a bit of a chicken and egg scenario but the consoles that end up selling the most tend to do very well at launch and early initial years anyway.

But for the most part it wont matter here. Both consoles will sell very well and both will eventually have a solid games library.

I meant sales numbers as reason for some people to "like" a product. Yes, the (3)ds is successful, doesn't mean it's a quality product if you look at it objectively.

Same reason some people are obsessed with graphics. It's just small minds needing something to have a pissing contest over, when in reality it should be the games that attract people to the machines.

I don't really get fanboys, it's mentally unhealthy.

The 3DS is a quality product, sales figures only reinforces that plenty of people think it's worthwhile to own. Much like the Vita will sell when it becomes a more reasonable price.

It is a quality product, only not in terms of value for your money. I'd rather pay a bit more and have a device that's capable of much more. Graphics and controls wise that is. Though it's maybe because I haven't enjoyed mario and zelda games since the NES. I guess it's down to personal preference.

That didn't quite work with PS2 -> PS3 did it? It's more complicated than that. The main problem with PS3 out of the gate was the price of the thing. 3DS had a similar problem, but because Nintendo already factored in a reasonable profit margin on the hardware they had room to manoeuvre without incurring heavy losses. Sony, as with PS3, are not in that position with VITA - they'll simply have to hold it out until they can price reduce the machine. If Apple use a similar SoC in the iPad3, that won't be a problem due to sheer volume.

Indeed, value for money comes down to personal preference. I was happy to pay £115 for my 3DS because it now offers me something I didn't have before, I obviously wasn't happy to pay full price from the off, it would have been a waste of money.

The Vita is the same, right now it's too expensive and offers me absolutely nothing, so whilst I will at some point own one (I'm one of those who buys every console imaginable), right now it'd be a waste of my money.

The PS3 was very poorly marketed and had been released considerably later than the Xbox 360, not to mention how they calamitously lost half a dozen key exclusives within the first few years. However despite such blunders and its steep price, they've still managed to outsell the 360 in both Japan and Europe and the gap in the US is closing in every year. I'd say the loyal fanbase from its predecessor had a lot to do with that.

No, it's your constant spouting of inaccuracies that leads people astray.

It's ironic really, that's why I call you on your bullshit.

Any time someone has a genuine question, everyone knows what your answer will be. It doesn't matter what their needs are, you push everyone down one path. It's not right, but there you go.

Try broadening your mind, you might not lose so many arguments that way and you never know, you might beable to use your knowledge for good!

:smirk:

I give facts, you give rhetoric and smilies.

Facts like Sony have said they won't target casual gamers?

Facts like the 3DS and Wii can't run Unreal Engine?

Those are two recent things you've stated/lied about. Are those two facts? No they aren't, and I've proven you wrong on both counts, so what do you do? You try to play games and slur.

Even now by using the word rhetoric, you are trying to push attention away from your own. It's quite clever and would work a lot of the time, but unfortunately for you I see straight through it. That's what frustrates you the most and leads you to your angry episodes. You should relax more and open your mind, it's the only way you'll avoid that heart attack!

Modified? And by who?

A number of people have used 2.5 and Midway are linked to using 3.

I know what you are thinking "shaders!" But you are aware that towards the end of the GCN life, a pipeline was developed to convert shaders to the texture stages aren't you? I never actually used it, but I know you can replicate a lot of things with the tevs.

It's possible they did something similar, but more likely it was just butchered 2.5.

Understatement of the century right there!

Possibly the worst advert for a console I have ever seen but Sony's advert for the PSP rivals it though. See below for yourself!

Those are genuine adverts produced for a company of Sony's size:lol::wenger:

Nintendo absolutely nailed it with their marketing campaign for both the Wii and the DS.

I love the way the Weaste vs Lambs/Sony vs Nintendo debate is raging across 3 threads including a Microsoft Durango thread. It's entertaining, informative and hilarious.

It's not really portable though, I mean Vita. Battery barely lasts 3 hours and it's so fecking big you need to carry a bag anyway. It's not really any more portable than an iPad, you won't carry it in a pocket.

If you're wearing just a shirt and jeans I suppose it's not portable.

Most jackets and coats have big inner pockets though. You can carry it in a backpack or a briefcase too if you go around with one. Comparison with an ipad is extremely exaggerated.

I believe difference in height with the 3ds is a 1 cm. And width - a couple of mms.

So not completely UNportable.

It's much bigger than 3DS, can't only be 1 cm. It doesn't fit in my coat or jacket while 3DS fits easily.

I carry a bag with me at nearly all times so I don't mind it but iPad fits in that bag as well so I have it with me all the time too. Whether it's iPad or Vita I need a bag to carry it with me so there's no difference.

You're probably talking about length as it's quite a bit longer than the 3ds, about 5cm so... I suppose it's sticking out of your pocket or something.

Solution: Grab a needle and tailor yourself deeper pockets.
