Gaming Nintendo 3DS vs PS Vita thread.

So I bought into 3DS hype and got one for myself. Must say I am delighted with it so far, graphics are much better than I expected (got Zelda and Mario with it) and games are brilliant. Can't wait for the new Resident Evil and Metal Gear Solid.

Get street fighter. Was a tenner last time I bought it amazing graphics.

Irrelevant, it's a 1985 resolution!

Then surely you can't judge the graphics of street fighter if you haven't played it?

The resolution might not be top notch but would we really benefit from a high res 3.5 inch screen?

I've not read much on the vita yet, the spec looks impressive but they're way off the mark regarding price ( but all new consoles always are).

Mario and Zelda are just great.

I think I am going to skip Mercenaries and go straight to Revelations as Mercenaries are supposedly quite bad. Out of already released games I might buy Starfox and Mario Kart to add to my collection but that's it.

Imo Sony should've gone for a lower resolution/smaller screen for Vita, as the hardware, although seemingly top of the line for mobile devices, isn't powerful enough to render games like Uncharted in such high res.

Of course there will be simpler games that run native but what's the whole point of the big screen if most of the games are upscaled?

A smaller Vita that you can actually carry around in your pocket would've made more sense.

On the other hand people like big screens so..I don't know.

EDGE gave RE: Revelations a 6/10. These are the reviews we've got so far;

GamesMaster: 91%
Game Informer: 9/10
Famitsu: 37/40 - Correction - Actually got 39/40.
Nintendo Power: 9/10
EDGE: 6/10

There's absolutely nothing wrong with it being upscaled. More often than not you can't even tell anyway.

Don't confuse art with the technology. 3DS isn't really pushing in terms of pixels any more than an A1200 in hires overscan could display.

The price of VITA is what it costs to produce, unlike the original price for 3DS where Nintendo went into typical rip you off mode.

Well the Vita's resolution isn't exactly 'modern' is it. Come to think about it, is the usual rendering resolution of the Ps3?

;)

Clever! 960×540 is fine for a 5" screen. As for the PS3, what deos that have to do with it? I'll humour you however... its specs were locked down in 2005, 7 years ago? No first party game I'm aware of is less than 720p native. What do you expect from 512MB and 8 ROPs?

VITA is quite capable of running games in qHD (quarter Full HD), the GPU can handle that. The memory it has and how developers choose to use it is quite a different matter.

Those lovely people at Sony, always caring for the consumer!

Aye, twas a bit tongue in cheek that one :D

However you should balance it up a bit by pointing out the 3DS actually does two screens at 400x240 and a third at slightly lower. It's a great example of technology geared to doing exactly what it's supposed to, rather than power for power's sake.

So Nintendo have never ripped you off with the hardware then? How much did Wii cost to buy? How much did Wii cost to produce? Ok then, that's that settled.

As I said, it's basically an Amiga in hires overscan in terms of resolution - 768 or so across, 1985 my friend. I'll give you that it has 6 times the colour depth.

They aren't charging twice what it costs to make because they struggle to sell it at even a slight profit.

They aren't a charity either, they make shed loads of money. Not sure what you are trying to get at, but I would rather pay less for a system that delivers what I want than overprice for a watered down Ps3.

And it's awesome, much like the Amiga was. So what's the problem?

3DS is awesome, just can't get enough of it. I've already collected 57 stars in Mario, I haven't played all that much of Zelda as it isn't your typical pick-up-and-play handheld game but I will get down to it soon. Now I really need to get Mario Kart and Starfox and then move on to Resident Evil when it comes out in a week!

I've preordered Vita as well. With the amount of traveling that I do these days I should probably get myself one as well - that along with 3DS, iPhone and iPad should make any trip bearable.

The Fatal Frame 3DS spin-off, Spirit Camera, is actually being released outside of Japan. They've announced it for NA, hopefully it'll come to Europe too.

How far are you in SM3DL?

I have just got to the last stage of 6th world. Not much game left, I will probably try to pick up all the star after I complete it.

;)

I still have 5-6 stars to get. Then I still have quite a lot of gold flags to get, and make sure I do the levels with Luigi that I haven't done yet.

I'll hopefully do that before REvelations comes out :D

Getting the remaining stars won't be as much fun for me as completing levels, although at the end of world 5 there was a castle that required you to have 50 stars to enter and I was on 18 stars when I got there so I imagine I will have a castle or some other level requiring me to have 100 stars or so sooner or later.

There aren't many good games for 3DS but it still delivers with titles like Mario and Zelda that will keep me occupied for hundreds of hours literally. I haven't even managed to start Zelda properly and I only played OoT for a few hours on N64 some ten years ago so it will basically be a new experience.

I wont say too much, but I'll just say, once you complete the six worlds, you'll have a few more things to play that aren't just collecting things :)

This thread might be useful - Nintendo 3DS Games: what does this thing have? - NeoGAF

I'd recommend checking out Mighty Switch Force on the eShop, that's a lot of fun game and it's by WayForward who are awesome.

Also Mutant Mudds isn't out yet, but it looks like a lot of fun

I'd recommend checking out the trailers and screenshots on the eShop so you can see what the game will be like in 3D.

EDIT: ^^Monkey Island

Just ordered Mario Kart 7 for £18 and PES2012 for the same price. Amazing. :D

Would it help if I said I still have a couple in original boxes and a load of games including the likes of gloom and monkey islands, all like new?

Well, yes, as long as you still have an Amiga to run it on.

That wasn't my point though, Amiga was awesome not because of of the games that were made for it, although it has a library that can match almost anything, but rather that it was cutting edge on the hardware level and the OS level for its time. You know that it pains me greatly that we all are not currently sat in front of one!

Ah right.

Yeah I heard that both the PES games for 3DS are good. Haven't played either though.

Have you played Star Fox and Resident Evil Mercenaries? Are they worth anything?

No, that read wrong. I have two machines boxed as new (though they do get some use time ;)), and yes we should all be using them.

The mind boggles as to just how much more advanced computing would be today if we were.

We're (Europe) getting some demos on the eShop tomorrow. Tomorrow we'll get Resident Evil: Revelations and Cooking Mama 4. Then later we'll be getting Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D, Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games and Rhythm Thief & the Emperor's Treasure.

The US are getting some too. Tomorrow they get Resi Evil: Revelations and Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games. And then later they get Rayman: Origins and Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D.

I bought the Nintendo DSi XL. Played about 50 games for it and every one was absolute gash (with the sole exception of New Super Mario Brothers, which was good, but too short and too easy). Every game for he system — and I had every critically acclaimed game on the system — looked and played like some shit 90's freeware.com title; it's amazing that Nintendo can get away with releasing such low-tech dumbed-down shite in the 21st century. I was gullible then, but never again; I won't touch another Nintendo as long as I live; they're games machines for 4yo's and retards.
