Gaming Nintendo 3DS vs PS Vita thread.

Hmmm, on second thoughts I think you're right. I don't know how I ever endured such stone age technology. I can't even count the hairs on Jills' head FFS. It's a good job Sony are here to save us.

Why do people confuse the software and the hardware? Nintendo games are brilliant, but the 1st party developers/game designers are restricted in what they can do due to the shitty hardware Nintendo has got itself into a cycle of putting out.

That's why you've got such a lob-on for the Wii-U is it, that you can play Wii games that look like XB360 games? Why bother, just stick with the Wii. Why bother with the 3DS, just stick to the DS? It's all about the software after all isn't it? Nintendo might as well not have bothered with the Wii or DS at all, the GC (oh, wait, the Wii is a GC) and GBA were good enough.

You're a joker!

Yeah I'd rather play higher resolution PS3-lite versions of games I already own than lower res 3D games that offer something different.

feck the gimmicks!

How about playing something different rather than rehashes of IPs you played 20-30 years ago?

When is that last time that Nintendo produced a highly successful new IP of their own rather than going back and reworking the shit they've already had for years? It's like Disney still producing new shit with Mickey Mouse in it.

Really, Zelda, Mario, Mario Kart, Donkey Kong, ad infinitum, stick in some Pilot Wings, some Kid Icarus, rinse and repeat.

When the next batch of consoles come out (PS4, New XBox etc) I'll be mega disappointed if Nintendo avoid the party and stick with the Wii.

The Wii reaches a market that the other consoles don't but it's time for them to bring out something great like the N64 was.

They already announced their next console at E3 in June.

Wii U? They're just milking the Wii console as far as they can. Surely that isn't the future of Nintendo when it comes to competing with the new Playstation and Xbox in the near future. They surely must have something else up the pipeline.

If not then feck you Satoru Iwata!!!!!

I am pretty sure they are. The next gen battle is between Microsoft and Sony, much like this current one has been. Nintendo aim to create a different market once again, or more accurately expand their Wii market.

You have to remember Nintendo can't compete with Sony and M$ financially so they have to innovate and compete in other areas.

To certain people apparently resistor amounts and polygon counts matter more than new ways to play the games we all love. Luckily it turns out more people just want to play games without the usual fanboy pissing contests that ultimately no one wins ;)

Well we don't know too much about it at the moment, we'll have to wait until E3 for them to do their "re-unveiling". TBH though other than the name having "Wii" in it I don't see why you think they're milking it. It's the successor to it, so if it is the final name it's not too surprising that they'd want to keep it in there.

There's nothing even remotely interesting about innovations in Wii-U but then again I said the same about iPad when it was announced and guess from what device I am posting right now.

What I would like Nintendo to do is to get more 3rd party developers interested. I would like to be able to play all the interesting multi-platform games without having to buy another system and so would plenty of people I imagine.

People said the same about the Wii too. It's personal preference on that score.

My point was more Nintendo have to try these things as they have no parent company bankrolling them at a huge loss to research and develop comparable machines.

It's great because those who want something different can have it. I eventually buy every machine released without fail (vita being the first ever exception, though no doubt I'll change my mind on that), do you think I'm happier owning a PS3/360 and a Wii than I would be owning three consoles exactly the same? I don't want the whole PS2/GCN/XBOX shit all over again

I can assure you it's not interest that's lacking, Nintendo have great support amongst the community largely because their machines are easier to work with on a whole. It's more with the Wii you virtually had to do everything from scratch for one system and in todays world of semi-crappy ports, no one wants to do it apart from the big boys with gauranteed ip's.

Couldn't find a thread for Super Mario 3d but I have to say the game play is pretty amazing. I thought the 3d would be a bit gimmicky but I'm impressed with what Nintendos done with the game and console.

GBA Ambassador games revealed;

F-Zero: Maximum Velocity
Super Mario Advance 3: Yoshi's Island
Legend of Zelda: Minish Cap
Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones
Kirby & The Amazing Mirror
Mario Kart: Super Circuit
Mario vs. Donkey Kong
Metroid Fusion
Wario Land 4
WarioWare, Inc.: Mega Microgames

Great list IMO, especially these

F-Zero: Maximum Velocity
Super Mario Advance 3: Yoshi's Island
Kirby & The Amazing Mirror
Metroid Fusion
Wario Land 4

How much are they going to cost? I might eventually get one of these if only for all Nintendo overpriced exclusives.

Good selection of games, I am impressed.

Sarni, they are all free if you purchased your 3DS (and connected to the eShop) before the price cut. I'm not sure if / when they're making it onto the eShop for download to the rest of 3DS owners, but I would imagine the cost to be at least £5 each depending on the popularity of the title. eg. Link's Awakening, a GameBoy Color game, is £5.40 at the moment. GBA games are obviously the next step up but I don't think there are any on the eShop just yet. But it is likely they'll be more expensive. I hope Nintendo don't be too ridiculous and go as far as £10 though, that'd be slightly unfair, although most of them are top games.

In other news, the next Pokémon game is set to be announced soon. January 14th is the scheduled date, but I expect CoroCoro to be leaked before then. I'm going to imagine it'll still be a DS game to cater to DS and 3DS owners, and it'll of course be Pokémon Grey (or something along those lines), the third instalment to Black & White. Not sure if anyone will be looking forward to it as much as me, since it'll be nearly the same game as Black & White for the most part. But I always enjoy the slight storyline changes and (most likely) the ability to get more of the legendaries on one game.

Also, the Circle Pad Pro price has been revealed for the US. It'll cost $19.99, so I expect a £14.99 price for the UK (unless they rip us off). I can see the Resident Evil bundle coming to around £39.99 - £49.99 though.

I will probably buy it after Christmas (as they are well overpriced now because everyone buys them for gifts) so well after the price cut. I am still not fully convinced as I am perfectly happy with my iPhone as a gaming device but I will give it a try.

The prices aren't that outrageous at the moment IMO. The strange thing is, some stores still sell the DSi XL for about the same price as a 3DS and considering the 3DS is a far superior console, it seems like you're getting a good deal.

If you shop around online you can get a 3DS on its own for about £130, maybe a bit less if you find a cracking deal. I've seen the console with Super Mario 3D Land or Mario Kart 7 for around £150 if you were interested in either of those games (both of which are great).

I don't foresee much of a dip in price throughout the whole of 2012 after the price cut this year, so if you're actually interested enough in the 3DS to really want one, it might be best to get it as soon as you can in a bundle as that'll cut the cost even more. Unless they do some good bundle deals in January, but bigger bundles often include a selection of really shite games in order to get rid of them. At my work we've been trying to flog off 320gb PS3's with crap like Move and some Medievil or Dance Move game, Karate Kid Blu-Ray and another game for about £225 - the rest of the kit is hardly worth the saving you make.

It also depends which colour you're after. The white one is nice and comes only with Super Mario 3D Land at the moment for about £150-160 in most stores. While the black, blue, or red can be bought without a game, but there are some decent bundles out there if you look around. If you were interested in something like Resident Evil Revelations, that's out on January 27th. They'll probably be a bundle with the game, the Circle Pad Pro, and a 3DS for a reasonable price as well. But if you're interested in first party Nintendo exclusives I'd get one of the bundles involving a Mario game.

Yep it's great fun :)

Tips and tricks video. Found out about a couple I didn't know about.

The person playing in the video is pretty gamn good

Damn that video. I couldn't watch any more after he got all those lives from the turtle. It'll ruin anything I find out myself.

Standard price for a 3ds is £119.99. Tesco did have some recently for £105 but they are hit and miss and have only lasted shortly. I managed to get mine for £96 because a friend got 20% off for me.

I will likely get a used one as it's £50 less even in a perfect condition and prices of them have raised significantly now. I saw them at £80 in October/November, now around £120.

The 3D photos and videos are amusing, I've been playing around with them loads

Oot is still making me literally say wow evertime I play it, the 3D effect not only works great but it also does really add to the graphical look of the games and you really have to experience it because it also adds a lot of clarity to the games that otherwise look a little washed out in the 2d screenshots.

Wow, I haven't been seeing these kinds of deals anywhere. Although admittedly, I usually just get games from ShopTo.net at average prices to get them earlier, and used to just get them from Game or super markets at average prices as well (but could often make savings through other means).

A second-hand one is a good idea, with a bit of luck you might even get one with Ambassador status on it already (meaning you'd get those games listed above for free, as well as 10 NES games).

I wouldn't class standard price for a new 3DS at £119.99 though. For consoles I'd say the standard is set more by specialist retailers. Most online specialist game retailers sell for roughly £135, while that'll be closer to £150 in-store at places like GAME I'd imagine (although I haven't been in for a while, so it could be less). Asda do them online for £134. Even at Tesco they're now pushing to £140 again. This will be the big Christmas seller, so a slight increase is expected now. But I think it'll stay around the £130-140 range for a while yet, but when you can get it with a Mario game for £150 that's a decent deal.

Getting a second-hand one seems best though, even if places like CeX are still charging about £120 for a pre-owned one.. I can't see places being that much cheaper, especially when they'll still buy them off you for nearly £100.

Bu buh the graphics on the vita is sooo much better lolz:lol:

Lambs, Olly, quick question. I've read some horror stories about the 3ds scratching the screen and the positioning of the actual controls, making it nearly impossible to play for large periods of time, any truth in that?

If not, what's the best bundle deal I can pick up for the 3DS, for under £200? I know that the vita will be retailing for just a bit more than that but I've grown up with nintendo handhelds and its a habbit, I just can't break.

It's on an auction site but most of them are in a very good condition. I nearly bought one for £75 a month or so ago, outbidded with a few second to go.

There's always someone moaning about something, but I can honestly say I've played for hours without the slightest problem with either the 3D, the controls or any kind of scratching. I suppose a minor gripe is the placing of the L/R buttons can make them easy to accidently press when you are using the machine itself and a viewer (like the binoculars in mario land) but it's in no way a big problem. As for the sickness, well that's people being stupid and either not adjusting the sliders or not taking it easy at first.

As for the price, I got the red one with Mario Land for £149 at Tescos which was the best price at the time (valuing the machine at £115-£119) but that was only instore as far as I know.

I don't get any scratches, just occasionally a couple of faint marks, but they wipe off easily. I've seen some people talk about the scratches, but I think it depends on how you treat it though since not everyone has them.

As for the controls, the only problem I had had was when I first got it I accidentally pressed the power button instead the the start button a few times for some reason  That's the only problem I've had related to the controls.

For the price, Gameplay has the Aqua Blue and Cosmos Black one for £129.99, or the Metallic Red one for £134.99 - Nintendo 3DS Consoles at Gameplay - FREE UK Delivery.
