far too injury prone both. Sven is Phil Jones 2.0 and Lars Bender is injury prone too. Besides the fact that Dortmund would never sell Sven, Lars on the other hand would be gettable for 25-30m i guess.
Was of the mind set De Jong would have been a good addition but now we have Blind and Carrick coming back then no real need. Would rather we get Khedira &/or wait on Strootman.
He'd add good protection to our young defence.

As far as deep midfielders go De Jong and Van Ginkel couldn't be much more different. I'm not convinced there's anything in these rumours at all.

With Blind, Fletcher, Fellaini and Carrick when he gets back, surely we have enough cover in the deeper role?
We won't be signing de jong, we went with the daley blind option for that role.
Wouldn't necessarily say that rules out us bringing him in.

TBH, we only have 3 players who know how to play the deeper role, but one of them is injured and another is clearly past it. We obviously need more help in that area.

I would definitley take him, if anything just to add abit of bite and urgency in midfield. Only 30 years old aswell. Would offer nothing creatively though but i guess the heinous would be on the rest of the midfield to do that.
Not liking this at all. We surely can afford someone better. We already got Blind there who got way brighter future than some bloody City reject.
Blind, Herrera and even Fellaini are all significantly better than him. Plus they are all younger. It would be a complete waste of a signing. Why won't this rumor die?
Exactly and Milan haven't exactly been playing well.
I'll be annoyed if we get rid of Carrick in the summer. He's 33, but he's still our best midfielder. We don't have anyone who passes the ball as well as him.
But none of them play the same role, and they aren't clearly better than him.
If Van Gaal signs De Jong, while our rivals will be snapping up the likes of Schniederlin and Pogba then I'm so done with the manager.
I was desperately hoping for this signing in the summer. I think he's excellent in his role.
We see Carricks repertoire of passing about twice a season against the leagues cannon fodder. If he's fit De Jong is a better DM than Herrera and Fellaini.
If you consider him a holding midfielder Blind is much better in that role and even arguably Fellani.
Fellaini is not a good holding midfielder, and De Jong is a better DM than Blind, Blind is a way better deep lying playmaker though. None of our players are even close from De Jong or Schneiderlin abilities to destroy plays.
He can do a job at centerback too. Ideally would have been a very good signing for this season, not sure about next when we could ideally be bringing in better center backs.
Maybe De Jong is better at running around tacking people. But for a club looking to play the type of Football we are aiming to play someone like Blind fits our needs much more. His reading of the game, positioning and passing is much better than someone like De Jong and those qualities are more important for a holding midfielder at an elite club.
We need both, it's one or the other, personally I would prefer SChneiderlin and De Jong does more than tackling people.
I understand that you don't like him, probably because of an handful of reckless tackles but there is no point in judging in unfairly.
Yeah he obviously does a little more than that. But, he is a limited player and is already 30. Decent player but, we should be aiming much higher.
I think De Jong is a good player but if we were signing him it should've been last summer as a stop gap to help us get back into the CL. We should aim for better this summer.
