Nigel De Jong

Even though I don't approve of signing a former City player, I'm willing to make an exception after watching the Swansea and Sunderland matches. Our midfield got so overran it's no even funny. We need a 'destroyer', someone who gets the ball back for us in midfield, and De Jong fits the bill temporarily, until maybe we can get a better, younger midfielder such as Strootman. I would get him for 5-10 mil maybe? What's the fee for De Jong then?

If there's an ex player of theirs who can do a job for us then so be it. City are in with the big boys now and it's far more likely that there will be ex City players on the market good enough for us than a few years back when they were a 2nd tier outfit. De Jong would immediately shore up our midfield no end and looks available at 10million it seems. We need immediate surgery in that department or else we will be well off the top four come Christmas I reckon.

We need a hard dirty bastard in our midfield right now, to stop teams thinking they can just play through out midfield with ease. This mofo ticks all the boxes.

Agreed. Lets get some steel in there - I think we're all sick and tired of that wallflower TC23 tiptoeing around the middle of the park

Basically we'd be getting De Jong and Di Maria to do what we thought Zaha and Fellaini could bring.

Not a fan then?

Were you serious? He's terrible, 32, on a shit tonne of money. Milan fans would be happy to give us money to take him off them, he's a 3rd rate defender now and has been past it for a long time. They tried to terminate his contract a while back but he rejected it because he's happy to be 4th choice and get paid loads.

Would've been worth it a bit ago for this though.

 remind me of on FM when you try and terminate a players contract by mutual consent but they reject it

On top of everything else De Jong appears to be a leader as well, something we severely lack currently. He isn't the perfect signing, or any kind of a long term solution, but at that price he'd definitely be a good short term solution and help solve a few major problems in the middle of the field. I think a midfield trio of De Jong, Herrera, and Mata could prove to be very good. Especially with the likes of Di Maria, Januzaj, Rooney, RvP, Welbeck playing in front of them.

Cheap, experienced, not completely shit. What we've been after for our backline. Not saying i want it to happen, but it's been mooted as an option as far afield as the De Jong rumours just about.

Pretty sure that's not we've been after.

We lack experience there since losing Rio and Vidic. It's likely we're not looking to spend loads on this position either what with our outlay so far. Not saying it's going to happen, but i can see why we'd be looking at this kind of signing.

Experienced and cheap is fine. But we need some proper good defenders not ones that are "not shit".

I'd delete that post in light of this, but it's adding to my post count.

What post? The one where i state we've been linked with Mexes or the one where i agree there aren't many good, experienced and cheap defenders around. Because both are facts.

Nah, man. Mine where I tell something you already know. I'm just faffing about really.

Even as a stop gap, after seeing the horror show yesterday you can't help but think he'll be a massive, massive improvement to our midfield.

Feck it, sign him on a 2 year contract. Bring Strootman on in January then we're golden. No need for Blind.

I think De Jong can also play center back which would certainly be useful when we inevitably have to play Carrick there every season.
