If we sign Mexes and Chivu, we must also sign Djibril Cisse.
Your thread 11 or 12 years ago on Cisse and how we must do everything to get this future superstar is one of the few things I will always remember about this forum.

If we don't get Vidal I would take this man above Blind. He has the EPL experience and he will work a lot harder than Fletch or Cleverley.

He could really do a good job and in the mean time we can monitor the likes a Strootman and other upcoming midfielders.

I really don't want him! I only see him as a solution for one year till we sign someone like Vidal, Strootman or Carvalho.

Even if just for a year, I would take him if it helps us get back in the CL. Then we have a better bartering tool to attract a player like Vidal. De Jong is better than Fletcher, Anderson, Cleverly. He would add also add more bite than Carrick to the midfield.

Couldn't agree more. There's really not much downside to signing him on the cheap. In a worst case scenario, his legs start going, but he's unlikely to deteriorate worse than Fletcher already has. The more likely scenario is we get a decent to good year or two out of him, and he helps plug a serious gap in our squad and protects a leaky efence.

Just think about the big games away from home and what he'd give us in a midfield 3 with Carrick and Herrera. We'd be solid for once.

Yep, if we don't sign Vidal or an alternative midfielder, I'll be disappointed if De Jong isn't a United player this time next week.

He's ready made to come in and do that defensive midfield job from the off.

Absolutely! He's a huge favorite of mine.

So Vidal is off, according to Daniel Taylor Carvalho is off to. Do is De Jong our last chance or is there anyone else this late in the window?

3 in midfield will be quite decent for this season

------De Jong
Di Maria - Herrera

No. Di Maria is decent in the midfield but that was real madrid with top players surrounding him. He's at Manchester United now, he can maybe fill in for injured players for some part but to get his best he needs to be on that wing. United are lacking magic from the wingers since Ronaldo has left.

He would end up on the wing in attack, as we'd likely be playing a forward/#10 on one of the wings that he would displace going forward.

But in order to do that he would need cover in midfield, which De Jong would provide.

De Jong would be a good signing for the short-term but I wish we'd just stump up the cash for Lars Bender and bring him in.

If that means we will see less of Fletcher, Cleverley and Fellaini, yes please.

Close to United, 10 million £ according to Daily Star.

Had me going until you tagged the Star on the end, I think he'd give us a bit of bite and bollocks in the middile which we're clearly lacking just now, wouldn't be the worst signing in the world and comes with PL experience to hit the ground running.

Would absolutely love this signing to go through. Cheap, experienced, adds some much needed bite in midfield, LvG has played with him and a total bargain at the price he'll go for. This signing makes a bit too much of sense to me. He'll let the attacking players ahead of do their job while quietly going about his. Would be a massive massive upgrade on the likes of Fletcher as well.

He's a cnut, though.

But I think we need more of those. Gone a bit soft lately, this team of ours.

10 mil (unless it's in Euros) would be slightly overpaying, though I wouldn't be too fussed... its' been too long since we've had a nasty bastard in our midfield.

Even 10m pounds seems fine to me. It's nothing these days. And it's worth how much he'd improve our midfield.

For some reason in my mind I thought he was 31, he's not 30 until November. For £10 million I'd absolutely be onboard with this, we need that midfield steel.

Yep!

Run:

For more of a defensive approach we could go:

Rafael - Jones - Rojo - Shaw
Blind - De Jong
Herrera
Di Maria - Rvp (Rooney) - Rooney (Janujaz)

We get good dutch passing, but a real steely midfield that will close down players so quickly. ENTIRELY different than previous years.

This would be almost as exciting as the Di Maria signing for me. A proper defensive midfielder who won't be bullied and is actually capable of tackling.

The fact that's he's a dirty cnut is a bonus.

We got beat up against Shelvey vs Swansea and Cattermole vs Sunderland, it would have been nice to have had De Jong in those games to have shown them what a real thug is like. Players liek Di Maria and Herrera would be safer.

If we are serious about getting good a solid cdm in we should be looking at one of the benders, but for >£10m, DE Jong represents value and experience.

I laughed.

I'm all for the signing, City reject or not. I hate having a midfield of softies, especially when they either can't get the ball or can't do anything with it when they do.
