...or, we buy Otamendi & then suddenly Ramos demands to come to United at the last minute & Real relent, leaving us we both players. Then LvG rotates Smalling, Ramos & Otamendi to pair with either Blind, Rojo & Blackett :lol:

I'm not wrong - i grew up watching him. Check out as many vids as you want & he's left-footed - but could play brilliantly with his right..

Can someone explain what the thought is behind the left footed CBs? I get the inverted wingers idea, but not sure what the thinking is at CB. Also, is he saying he wants both CBs to be left footed?

Not important how many top class left footed center halves there have been, van Gaal is VERY intent on having one right footed and one left footed center half and is too stubborn to change this. If we sign Otamendi it's 90% he won't be playing alongside Smalling very often, he will be playing instead of him alongside Blind or Rojo.

Van Gaal has some weird ideas, but he isn't an idiot. Unless Rojo improves, it will be Smalling and Otamendi.

Blind playing instead of Jones/Evans doesn't mean that a left footed player will play ahead of a superior right footed player. It just means that Blind - who has been doing well and is a left footed - will play ahead of Jones and Evans who haven't been doing well and are right footed.

I hope you're right. Unfortunately none of us would know for sure what Van Gaal would do if Rojo/Blind don't cut it.

I just don't see any chance of Smalling getting benched if he plays like he did on Saturday. If he plays worse, then an Otamendi + Rojo might very well happen though, but it is in Smalling hands to continue being a first choice. He just needs to keep this level and continue improving.

On the other side, Jones might be in a bad position, becoming third choice RB (Smalling as first choice, then Otamendi changing his position from LCB to RCB when Smalling isn't available) but I don't have any sympathy for him. He hasn't improved at all in his 4 years here.

Evan's can use both feet though & it's hard to work out which one is shitter..

He could use both feet equally as good in hindsight & it was hard to tell what was his original stronger foot. I've already said that..

More tweets from Valencia press saying a deal is imminent and only a few details left to do. Same thing has been said about Gaitan for the last 4 years, he must pack his wee suitcase each summer waiting for Ed to call.

Do not need another right footed centre back if LVG wants balance. We have Smalling for that side of the defence, unless LVG abandons his need for having a left footer on the left of central defence then I don't think he will be coming to us. All the noise from OT is to sort attack and DDG situation out, defence is sorted as no one of better quality than what we have is available.

He abandoned it last season when he paired Smallling and Jones. He'll abandon it again. He was afterall trying to sign Ramos.

But Ramos is an upgrade on anything we have, even if we paired Rojo as the LCB beside him it would make an impressive partnership.
