Is there anything in this? Is it worth putting him in my Fifa team yet? Or is it just same old shite paper talk?
I was reading it from Skysports, it quoted him as saying he only had 3 centrebacks and it didn't mention lcb or rcb, I didn't hear the report but thanks for clearing it upShould've listened more carefully. Jones, Smalling and McNair are the RCB's. Rojo, Blind and Evans are the LCB's which he didn't mention and it's likely Evans is on his way out if we do get a new LCB in.
What has you so convinced he is better than what we haveIt's so sad. if we could just sign this chap and play him next to Smalling we'd be so much more solid and likely to mount a genuine challenge, alas, it seems that LVG isn't really interested and that if we do sign a new CB he's likely to replace Jones/Smalling rather than Rojo/Blind.

Must admit Im on LVG's side on this
Ramos would have been amazing, but whats the point unless we know for sure they are significantly better than what we have?
I have seen him plenty and Im not yet convinced he is significantly better than Smalling or Jones. I have seen both produce exceptional performances for UtdWell, we have Smalling who is a very good defender but after that, who do we have at CB that can claim to be as good as the best defender in La Liga last season?
People keep saying that he's only had one great season but the fact is that some players bloom later and it takes a level of maturity and composure, which for some comes later, to be a great CB. Everything I've seen from Otamendi lately has been excellent. Just look at that defensive work against Messi's mazy run and imagine Phil Jones facing that, the crumpled heap and gurning face of defeat.....
Who should we be targeting or are you happy with what we have? Or should we even just pay an extortionate fee to Madrid and get Ramos?I have seen him plenty and Im not yet convinced he is significantly better than Smalling or Jones. I have seen both produce exceptional performances for Utd
The benchmark was to replace Smalling. I don't want any CB if this is the case. His fetish for a left footed CB means that any new CB would replace, not supplement our best defender. He's quicker, stronger and better in the air than Blind, so he'd be an upgrade to partner Smalling which was what LvG said was the benchmark by which we'd buy.

That would make sense, I guess. I hope Blind is a temporary option for us there.I read his comments and it did sound that way I agree, but @NL Max seems to think we have misinterpreted him and that the CB would replace Evans as one of the 3 LCB options, with Smalling, McNair and Jones as the RCB options.

Don't get me wrong I do think he is good@Randall Flagg
Well it's all about opinions of course, and I respect yours, but my own is that he's currently better than Smalling and considerably better than Jones. I suspect that if he signs for one of our competitors, we'll regret it a lot.
Don't get me wrong I do think he is good
But it's a huge risk for a player who has had one good season
I'm also wondering why no one else is in for him. His release clause has been well known for the last 6 months or more
Man City and Real Madrid have been linked with him.
He's actually the first choice replacement for Madrid if Ramos had gone.

I hope that wont have an impact on his football this year.Rojo is an idiot and can't sort his own passport out and Evans obviously doesn't have a future at the club. Jones is now out for three weeks and Schweinsteiger isn't fit enough yet so Carrick can't play in defense either. I think it's early to suggest Blind in defense is a permanent thing, especially since Van Gaal named him along with Schneiderlin, Schweinsteiger and Carrick as our central midfielders.
Would he be worth it? After one goodMan City and Real Madrid have been linked with him.

unless his passport issues don't affect him travelling to champions league gamesI hope that wont have an impact on his football this year.

If Man City and Real Madrid want him then why is he still a Valencia player at this point? There are no questions about his availabilty, £35m and he is free to speak to new clubs.
I think we are the only side to have shown genuine interest. I think he is right footed though and we already have Smalling and Jones, we are probably more focused on getting a left footer.
Alaba is pretty solid when he plays centre back but that's a bit of a stretchSerious question man - name me a world class left-footed CB in the history of the game - apart from Maldini, who was a left-back for most of his career?!
I cant think of any - nevermind thinkin of one that's playing now..
I hope this is true. However, with Otamendi being right footed (I think) and journalists who cover us having reported we were interested in a RCB rather than a LCB well before LVG made those comments....
I'm worried.

Some people don't seem to know this so I'll clarify:
Otamendi is right footed, but he is playing as the left centre back for both Valencia and Argentina. His left foot is pretty good from what I've seen, although I haven't seen him attempting any long passes with it.
If van Gaal can sort out his OCD, Otamendi would surely play alongside Smalling.

Swaps never happen, but Rojo + 15M Pounds makes a lot of sense. Valencia can buy Garay with the money and they'd have actual depth at the back for once (Gaya-Garay-Mustafi-Cancelo with Rojo, Orban, Vezo and Barragan as back up), which they'll need since they are in the CL and will probably be in a tough fight for 4th with Sevilla to be in next year's CL, along with whichever team overachieves from Villareal, Bilbao, Sociedad or a true surprise package.
You're not that far off, though, I think. Schnellinger and Krol became sweepers after being LBs, but in modern times it seems to be Chiellini, Chivu and De Boer, which isn't that impressive a list. Who am I forgetting?
Haha sorry man but anyone who thinks "fail" is funny needs to reevaluate themselves. Can't stand itGood try.
Chiellini.
