I don't think we are interested for 50m. Its all about the price it seems.
We are utter idiots for pissing about for months helping Sergio Ramos get a new contract, whilst also prolonging our goalkeeper woes. If we'd have just gone and signed this guy a few weeks ago we could be bedding him in for the new season. Instead of flailing around like utter dickheads and losing to PSG, with severe problems going into the new season.
After what we just watched... can we reconsider this ?
I would and I would sell Jones ASAP to make room.
That would be shockingly shortsighted.
Jones has zero footballing brain, so having anybody else with more intelligence going with the ability to play a physical game would fit the bill.
He is still young and to an extent his development has been stunted by injury. On his day he looks a top class centreback even at the tender age of 23.
Even Rio was prone to mistakes at that age. It took him a while to cut it out of his game. Jones is clearly going to be a top defender if he can stay fit.
Having said that, it wouldn't be a bad idea to bring in another senior centreback to replace Jonny Evans. We cant rely on our guys to stay fit if we learnt anything from last season.
This is how you defend.Otamendi vs Ronaldo
Otamendi vs Bale
Otamendi vs Messi
Otamendi vs Suarez + Messi
Otamendi vs Messi + Pedro
If he hasn't got a brain, he isn't going to grow one anytime soon.He is still young and to an extent his development has been stunted by injury. On his day he looks a top class centreback even at the tender age of 23.

Don't want to derail this thread any further, but this is exactly the same kind of stuff that was said about Rio Ferdinand for the first few seasons.
I'm old enough to remember.
I'm old enough to remember.
Rio was very comfortable on the ball in early age and was very intelligent defender. Yes he made some errors especially when young, like every defender. Jones is not in the same class and probably never will be, but on the other hand I can't see any other young defender at his age that was good as Rio.Don't want to derail this thread any further, but this is exactly the same kind of stuff that was said about Rio Ferdinand for the first few seasons.

Thank God. I'd rather have Jones than another Mendes client. Happy for another club to deal with Mendes.http://www.superdeporte.es/valencia/2015/07/30/otamendi-pone-disposicion-nuno/265173.html
Bayern have contacted Jorge Mendes regarding Otamendi.
Does he really, and is he clearly? I'm not sure at all. He's poor on the ball, he is built like a tank and has none of the agility of Rio. He's just a big guy. His positioning is okay at best. A nimble attacker could/would turn him inside out.
I'm simply not convinced. I grew up watching Italian soccer, and maybe I'm a bit harsh on him, but he's got a long way to go to be considered a top class CB.
Jones tackles are wonderful.
I think he will improve. He is only 23.
I dont like slating him as he seems a really nice lad. But he really needs to work on his concentration & positioning. He looks nervous in certain situations too & when the nerves kick in - your game turns to shite.
It must be tough if you make a mistake playing for us & you've had previous like Jones too, and then media & forums like this (which alters fans opinions as a whole), jump all over your case. It doesnt help, but many of us are frustrated that Jones looks out of his depth many times & that's not good for us if we want to get back to the top..
Smalling is ahead of Jones in consistency levels - based on last season's form, but even he needs to improve massively also.
If we go into the new season with the CB's we have - we aint winning jack shit & it'll be down to LvG & nobody else!
Then we will never go for Laporte either.Thank God. I'd rather have Jones than another Mendes client. Happy for another club to deal with Mendes.
I agree with @Jazz steer clear of Mendes at all costs. Then we will never go for Laporte either.
I think it's better to live with losing out on some players than dealing with Mendes. Bayern, Barca and Arsenal seem to survive just fine without his clients. Besides, his clients cost a lot and are sometimes inconsistent (Nani); want to feck off to Madrid (Ronnie & De Gea) or expensive flops (Di Maria). Don't forget the 'Bebe' sagaThen we will never go for Laporte either.

Then trying to sell us an undercooked Falcao for ridiculous sums and throwing a strop when we didn't take the bait. Don't you remember when Falcao was being left out for a bit and Mendes had his book launch and was saying how Falcao would have flourished under Sir Alex etc. He was implying that LVG was causing Falcao to perform like he was. The fact he felt he could so publicly belittle the United manager pissed me off. It's like he wants to control what we do at the club. Even if those are his true beliefs re: Falcao it's not his place to be whining about this in public in the way he did. He's a greedy worm whose just cost us a lot of money for mostly crap imo.
Mendes is OTamendi's agent too?
fecking hell, how many players does that guy have? 125?
Yeah, remember the guy.If you have seen entourage, mendes is like ari gold. His associates have a lot of clients too. Like otamendi(eugenio Lopez)

Unbelievable rose tinted glasses you guys wear at times.
Me too. It's worth considering the risk that comes with an agent like Mendes or particularly Raiola (I'm sure Roberto Martinez wishes nothing but bad things on after what he said about Lukaku last season.) Yes, depending on Phil Jones is risky, but he's still young and if it works you've likely got a very loyal, long-term player on your hands. Any player with the likes of Raiola or Mendes always carries the risk of being cnut, even more so if that player is successful. And then you can count on the Real poaching tactics.Thank God. I would be great if a number of big clubs like Arsenal, Bayern, Barca and United adopted a stance that they simply wouldn't sign players represented by Mendes. I know that sounds a bit like collusion, but I love the idea of the clubs taking some of the leverage back. After all, if you're an up-and-coming player, you might think twice about signing on with an agent whose access to certain clubs has been curtailed. I know it's a fantasy, but it's a beautiful fantasy nonetheless.Yep - he certainly is alright Jazz, but the prick is an influential figure in world football & especially top clubs across Europe too, so he has many clubs by the balls & players too.
I hate the bastard too & i agree with most of your post, i might add, but he's a necessary evil at times..
I would rather we kept away from him even though I know this would limit our access to Iberian players.@Jazz @Fully Fledged @Mali_Zeus @Keeps It tidy @prath92 @jem @settembrini
An extremely lengthy & detailed piece on Mendes & his dealings etc. from last year; not to mention his association with Peter Kenyon & 3rd party ownership of players too.
The article only covers up to last year, so you can add another 12 months of his dealings to the info supplied.
I hate the prick even more now after reading that.

I don't think either of Barcelona or Arsenal have ever done any business with Mendes.
not sure what you mean?erm ronaldo, mourinho?
