Nicolas Otamendi | City Player

Would prefer him over Ramos to be honest. Just like it more when a player actually wants to be here (or so it seems) instead of having a player that just wants to leave his other club and cares less where he goes.

It seems that what you are describing fits more Otamendi since his agent talked to United, Madrid and City, at least.

City linked shocker - reports currently being made on the back of Pellegrini being over at the Copa America. It's an easy story.
Yes, although it wouldn't surprise me either - Kompany had a poor season and Mangala has only convinced in patches. At the end of the day there are a very limited number of top class central defenders around and even fewer who might be available. We seem to have focused on Ramos now leaving City a free run at this guy.

City aren't in for him. City don't need a cb (yet).

Agent drumming up bidding war (or fear of one) to get us to pay as close to release clause as possible

If we got Ramos - which i seriously doubt (Ramos tryin to get a pay day from Real bollox), then we'll miss out or pass up on Otamendi most likely, as he'll be off to Real then. I dont see that as a better deal for us. Both would be superb mind you.

Us tryin to f*ck with Real's shit - i'm all on for that big time though..

Yes I have no issue with us trying to get on over RM, but I would rather we were doing it in the safe knoweledge we have Otemendi in the bag.

Outside looking in it seems we're playing a dangerous game.

I don't think we'll sign 2 centrebacks though. Smalling, Jones, McNair and Blackett have all extended their contract, we also have Rojo. The odd one out is Evans, he will most likely need replacing. Signing Otamendi now would rule out Ramos, why would the club make haste when Otamendi is still with his NT? Doubt he's moving as long as he's there since we can't do a medical.

City spent £30m on Mangala and look likely to spend another 50m on Sterling, seems like a lazy attempt by Valencia or his agent to scare us into action.

Because I have a feeling we just want a player off them, could be Bale, Benzema, Modric, atm it's Ramos but that could quickly change.

Yes we only really need one CB but it has to be top quality and Otemendi is, last thing we want to do is risk losing him for what seems like our lastest attempt at getting the ungettable from RM.

Like I say though it's only outside looking that it seems like this to me, i'm sure we know what we're doing! :wenger:

Absolutely man, this could turn out to be one almighty cock up on our part & we end up with Vlaar or someone of that nature..

Smalling is the only one of those CB's that has shown anything of notice, that he's capable of being a United CB & even at that - there's massive question marks over his fitness & form consistency too. He had a good end to the season & that's great / positive, but is there better & gettable CB's out there right now, than what we have?

Most definitely there is & we should be aiming higher than what we have. 2 top class CB's is a must imo; with Smallling, Jones & Rojo added to the competition. McNair is never a CB & Evans will be gone!

They don't need a CB? I'd say they need one as much as we do.

He scared me anyway :(. Really want this lad at this club, have a feeling he's going to be incredible in the premier league, suits it to the ground.

I think it's clear Smalling gained LvG's trust by the end of the season, and I disagree about massive question marks over his consistency. And by most accounts, Otamendi would complement him well.

We are not signing two new starting CB's this window.

Smalling is the best of our bad bunch & has shown consistency during the 2nd half of the season, but his unreliability to stay fit is so friggin obvious to all - same with Jones.

Both of those two could miss large chunks of next season & chances are (past history) they will. So for a club of our size to bank on injury-prone CB's since day one & not try to correct our CB options, is just complete madness, stupidity & lackin ambition..

He won't be going to City for big money, not with the way their squad is now with 17 non-homegrowns and only 2 homegrown.

Well, unless they want to try to get through 4 competitions with only 19 players over the age of 21. If they decide they want another CB they'll almost certainly throw money at Everton for Stones.

I don't think van Gaal will want 5 senior centrebacks and 2 youth products, I know we've had injury problems but that would be overkill. There's no massive question marks over Smalling his fitness unlike with Jones. 'The youth is always ready' in case all our centrebacks are injured again like van Gaal says. Also, replacing injury prone Evans with someone like Otamendi would help.

Sticking to the players we have can be far more beneficial to the team than buying options who are better individuals, do you really want 2 new centrebacks, rightback and a keeper? We'd probably have another transitional season.

Top teams don't keep five good centre half's on their books either. Never have, never will, yet I still see barmy calls for exactly that to happen.

Quite obvious that deals can still be done during Copa America, so I don't really expect anything between us and Otamendi when it's finished.

They're pretty weak in that position too so this isn't surpising. Would be pretty annoying if they beat us to him.

I don't think City will throw big money at a CB that expects to start every game when they have big head and the 42M man.

If we get Ramos I doubt we'd buy Otamendi as well.
Why can't we get both? Really don't want to see Otamendi at City. Seems far more sturdy than Ramos to deal with a visit to Stoke and their lot.

Well I actually would buy both, but we are apparently about to give Jones another 4 year deal, so I don't see us carrying 5 CB's as well as McNair.

Jones:rolleyes:
I guess the coaches see something we don't.

I'm a little surprised that Chelsea arent interested. Good replacement for Terry, I know they have Zouma but he doesnt seem to play much at CB and has everything to prove.
