Nicolas Otamendi | City Player

We'd have to wait until the end of the Copa to know how this one ends up anyway, or at least until Argentina get knocked out. Heck, Otamendi might even be one of those players who "want a holiday before making big decisions". Could be the end of July :o

According to Marca City will also bid for Otamendi.they think that the 30mill € that Valencia has to pay for Negredo might help in the talks

We should just offer his release clause and be done with it.

Tell Real Madrid to accept our £7.5m cash offer + DDG for Ramos or to deliver a £30m cash offer before we start pre season preparation by July 17th or De Gea will be taken off the market by that time. If they don't pay £30m we'll keep him for another year and see what happens.

Problem solved might be a bit expensive but atleast we'll be the one calling the shots and certainly won't be left empty by the end of the summer.

We'll have a good defender with Otamendi

We can put pressure on Real and if they accept the offer for Ramos will have another good defender to play alongside Otamendi. If they pay the £30m we'll have sold De Gea for a good price and made most of the money back for Otamendi.

If they don't pay up and we're forced to keep De Gea for another year atleast we'll have a good GK for next year and can gradually bring Valdes and if he isn't good enough we'll have more time to find a good replacement without bleeding goals left and right.

£30m is around 45 mill €.If he had a longer contract I would pay it but with a year left no more than 30m€.If that is the case then I would look for another goalkeeper, besides maybe is time to De Gea to talk publicly.

I hope we aren't fecking around Otamendi and Schneiderlin while we chase Ramos and Schweinsteiger.

You know we probably are - its that damn list of van Gaals, they are obviously 2nd tier options because we could buy Otamendi tomorrow if we really wanted, we know his price regardless of whether we all believe him worth it.
No doubt Schneiderlin too without any real competition. He could be pulling up at AON rocking a serious semi come July 1st.
I may be completely wrong and Ed is pulling off deals left right and centre as I type but based on past summers I dare say we will only get aggressive in this window if forced, like the recent Depay deal or paying huge ridiculous close to or dead line day money like Di Maria, Falcao or Fellaini.

If we are we're bonkers, two younger, hungrier, cheaper players that would likely love to come and play for us, against two who will have the pipe and slippers out before long, you know were doing it though. It's the United way...everything has to be difficult, if Messi was available to us on a free you just know we'd go and try and get Ronaldo first.

Having said that there's just something that makes me want to see Schweinstegier in a United shirt, Ramos less so.

Think you could be right with the last part, Otemnedi and Schneiderlin are there, and until someone else comes in and offers the money the clubs want there they will stay until we have exhausted all attempt at getting other players, in the event anyone else come in for them I would have thought we'll be given a tip off and we'll then make our move if no one else has been bought.

It is quite possible Depay would still be at PSV if PSG/Liverpool hadn't tried to nab him.

I don't really care we should put ourselves in a position we can't be bullied by Real and than just ask for £30m. it is alot but feck me they have enough money and they spend silly money every season, if they want De Gea some of that can come our way for once.

If they don't then we'll have DDG for another year which will have many benefits for us more then some people realise.

It's times like this I miss Fergie the most, he'd have not suffered any of this Ramos and Schweinsteiger stuff, he'd have gotten Schneiderlin done immediately and if we had already identified Otamedni he wouldn't be stalling because a more glamorous option was batting his eyelashes.

Of the two I'd actually prefer Ramos, he is still in his prime and not riddled with injuries, if we got Schweinsteiger we'd still need another CM.

Yes I agree we'd need another CM if we got Schweinsteiger, but he is a lot less of a financial risk than Ramos so we could afford one, Otemendi seems to tick all the boxes for a CB , so it makes no sense to over complicate things and risk missing him by going for Ramos imo.

Seems to me just want a top RM player, it doesn't matter who it is, could be Modric next week.

Was about to come here and say the same, could have another Hargreaves/Senna situation on our hands

This the same Fergie who signed zero proper midfielders from 07-13?

Just pay the buy-out already. It's not even that bad. There will be other deals where Woodward can have his ego rubbed where he gets a good deal. This is a sensible signing, do it!

His agent is just whoring him to every top club to get more money. 3 weeks ago his agent met with Real Madrid and now is also linked with City. I do not trust his agent at all.

Expecting lots of links with City now that Valencia are struggling to pay the agreed €22m last season for Negredo (great selling price by City for once). I don't think that move will materialise though, Denayer has just been brought through into the first team set up and having already started to break into the Belgium squad at 19 he could become a hell of a player.

I doubt there will be any of those, to be honest.

or to put us under pressure to buy him, which would be for once a good thing.

Yes, it does feel like we are more interested in getting a player in the De Gea deal than whether it's the right move or not.

The position the player plays doesn't matter, the point is Fergie would have went for the PL tested player of 25 as opposed to hanging around waiting for a 31 year old from Bayern to decide his future.

If Ramos does actually leave, he'd pretty much be the best replacement they can get their hands on.

Best we get this one sorted as soon as possible

This Ramos story doesn't make sense. Madrid Ian't obliged to sell us any of their players just because they want De Gea. Swap deals hardly ever happen in real life, and this one seems even less likely. A top Spaniard starting for Real Madrid wanting to move to North England?!

If anything, the Otamendi story seems more likely, because he seems like he genuinely wants to leave. We should work on that lead instead. This Ramos chase will end in tears.

You could also argue that Otamendi is the better defender based on last season. Ramos is still good, but hes prone to being rash. One of the best at coming up for set pieces though and good on the ball. Age is also a factor, Otamendi would have 2 more years at his prime

If we got Ramos - which i seriously doubt (Ramos tryin to get a pay day from Real bollox), then we'll miss out or pass up on Otamendi most likely, as he'll be off to Real then. I dont see that as a better deal for us. Both would be superb mind you.

Us tryin to f*ck with Real's shit - i'm all on for that big time though..

Let's screw Real and buy both, Ramos and Otamendi

But I am getting a bad feeling of losing both having already lost Firminio and Cech. :nervous:

We need 2 top class CB's anyway, so that's no even an issue. The issue is - are the club seeing the gapin holes we all can see in defence & CM?!

Its becoming an on-going joke at this stage; why we're not competing properly in our own league - nevermind the Champions League!

Completely agree. but I do think that the club must be after targets. Just because it is not out in the open does not mean things are not moving. Our targets are big, they will take time. At the end of the day, there is so much you can do and the rest will be in the hands of the player and more importantly his agent.

Chill, bro. We're only at the end of June. Plenty more drama to be had before the end of the window.

Did we even want those two players in the first place? We don't even know what plans the club actually has in mind. All we have are rumors and innuendo from agents looking for a big pay day or journalists looking to sell papers.

For now just sit back, relax and enjoy the circus that is the transfer window.

I will be gutted if he joins Real Madrid. That will leave us with very limited options. :(

It only makes sense in that we'll run de Gea's contract down unless we get a player in return. Which seems perfectly plausible to me as the £20m or whatever figure we're looking at is pretty fecking useless to us. Money isn't really a problem - attracting top talent is.

So, Who would you prefer, Ramos or Otamendi?

Otamendi - Good enough and could give us at least 5 years of great service.

Ramos - Good enough for maybe 3 seasons

Ramos - just to prove that we can take from Madrid as they take from us

Ramos - just to play him RB for shits and giggles

Both.

We need a poll.

Buy both, and find a way to pay Real in itty bitty installments. Or give them some of the fee in coppers.
