Ogden just taking stabs in the dark as per usual.

First we'll hear of any deal with a German/Spanish club is from the German/Spanish press.

Looks like the club has been leaking info to the journos that we are not interested. Simon Stone has been reporting it too, after Ogden and this guy never makes things up.

Ogden has been talking shiite since Moyes got sacked.....last week on MUTV he said Bale to Utd was a done deal!!

I think it's feeding bad info. We kept denying Herrera until he was officially announced.

You keep putting the fee + talent issue. Scholes was 'bought' for free in the same way OShea was.
So? What's Scholes got to do with this? It seems you're picking on things that's not even my point. My point is this: basically Blind role right now is replacing O'Shea role in the team. The fact that Blind cost lots of money means that O'Shea role in the team was important, and he's IMO much better than many people give him credit for. Anyway I'm not interested in derailing the thread much further

Ladyman said yesterday we want him.

I don't believe Odgen is reliable as people make him out to be.

However Blind is a much better player. OShea was painfully limited

Otamendi's agent has made it clear that he's pushing hard for a move and Valencia have made it clear they're quite desperate to sell him, for their price. We could well be feeding the "Not interested" line to drive the price down as there doesn't really seem to be anyone else linked with him.

How can you make such baseless comments?

Valencia are not prepared to sell him, hence the only way to get him is to pay his buyout clause that they cant do anything about

Denying any interest before activating a release clause - seems like history is about to repeat itself. First Herrera and now probably Otamendi.

That's not what they said, they said that they will only accept the value of the clause.

If we're tracking a player in Spain, one of the best sources of info will be Balague. Before everyone started banging this Otamendi drum, he reported of our interest in January, along with Laporte. If we are interested in any player outside England, the more concrete info will not come from an English journalist, Moyes is no longer our manager.

Agreed. He got Di Maria and Falcao spot on, so we should be listening to what he has to say, especially when it comes to La Liga players. IMO our interest in Otamendi is genuine and it looks like he's desperate to come here.

Ogden's been more or less pointless for a while now.

Think he also talked about our interest in Herrera when all the other English reporters were saying there's nothing in it and we're not even interested.

Exactly, can't forget Ogden coming out last summer to say we have NO interest in Herrera [despite sources in Spain and Balague saying otherwise], few days later we signed Herrera. It was funny, I still have the tweet.

He did, as far as Spain is concerned, he's very very reliable.

In that case we'd have to pay a 52% tax on top of the transfer.

Ok, desperate was a very strong word to use, but the quotes from the Valencia president do not seem the words of a club trying hard to fight a sale, just to try and make sure its on their terms.

Valencia does not understand rumours nor will they be pressued by agents or comments. In the end, Valencia's position stays the same. If he wants to leave, he has to say so personally, not an agent. Otamendi is valued at minimum €50m. We are very happy with him and I'd love for him to finish his contract. Valencia have not received any offers. If there's communcation with the player, clubs may come, but we insist on minimum €50m.

Yeah, he's been clueless even since Moyes got the sack. Guardian's Jamie Jackson is another one that knows feck all and shouldn't be listened to.

He's just saying they insist a club must pay the release clause. They arent willing to talk about a fee

Ogden is reliable, he reports what his sources feed him. Ladyman is running the same story today -

Meanwhile, it is understood United have cooled initial interest in Valencia's Argentinean central defender Nicolas Otamendi.

The South American has a £35million buy-out clause in his contract in Spain and wants to leave the club. United, however, are not currently pursuing the deal

They have been briefed.

feck me, its going to be a long summer isn't it. We want player x, we dont want player x, rinse and repeat x 1000.

Hate this silly season!

Their integrity is reliable, certainly. I don't think the info that the club is sending out is, though. We denied practically everything last summer and continued to do so in January.

Agreed. I don't think the club wants to do things publicly so them denying the interest in Otamendi makes sense.

Balague and a couple of other Spanish outlets were adamant that we bid for him in Jan so I would be very surprised if we weren't interested in him now. Can't see the price putting us off considering we'd be paying a relatively similar fee for Hummels.

We won't pay the 53m asking fee, Hummels has a certain prestige winning the league and reaching the CL final gives you, Otamendi does not.

If the press have been briefed that we don't want him, then we defo do want him.

I love it especially the closing hours with SSN providing live updates with like reporters sitting outside of Carrington waiting for something to happen together with a small group of fans hoping that something will happen in the closing hours.

Jorge Mendes isn't Otamendi's agent but he's close to both clubs involved and has therefore been dragged into everything, but Valencia's sporting director Amadeo Salvo has been quoted by Super Deporte as saying "Mendes is nobody in Valencia."

Salvo also said that if he sold Otamendi for less than his clause, even €49m, then he'd be sacked by the Spanish club's owner Peter Lim. He also expects that Manchester United pay the transfer fee all in one go "if it's Manchester I think it'll be 50 in cash."

There is a little light there, he's making it sound like Valencia would treat a €50m bid as a conventional transfer rather than force the buyout clause route.

Sport Witness. Found this part of the article interesting.

If we are still signing players on deadline day, LvG will be throttling somebody.

Sounds like Valencia are softening already. Woody's media brief working wonders. He'll be knighted by the end of the summer

If so then it's probably right that we have no interest as there's absolutely no chance of negotiating a lower fee.

Didn't Balague say both teams are negotiating?
Not to my knowledge. Think he said that they won't sell for under 50m euros, which they won't. They had the same stance with Mathieu and Soldado.
