The only thing I will say, to add to what I've said already - that I like him, but there doesnt seem to be space for him - is that Nani was better than him this season, right? So obviously we should just keep him if we need another winger

I agree with you, he is very talented but his inconsistency makes Nani looks like Ronaldo.
 
Another winger? This would make sense if we're planning on playing Mata as a #10 from now on even then we still have, Young, Depay, Januzaj and Di Maria. This doesn't really make any sense. Also is this guy better than Nani? Is Mendes involved in this somehow?
 
We'd be mad to sign him. He'll not improve our team. We've already got Depay and Young on the left, and Di Maria and Mata on the right. Why in the world would we need him then? This can't be true. It just can't.
 
Just get him signed, so I don't have to hear his name every few days. ehh?

We have more midfielders than Blackpool have players, I wonder what difference an attacking midfielder would make when we clearly need a top striker.
 
If we sign him and play the same formation we better sign a 25 year old Frank Lampard or we're going to struggle to score goals again even when we do play well.

Gaitan is nimble and has a good eye for a pass, but he's 27 and tiny and is consistently about 1 in 6 in Portugal for one of the dominant sides. I think he'd give us about what Navas gave Citeh this year; Healthy but not outstanding assist total and virtually no goals.
 
Not sure at all why we would be including Nani in the deal when he's a better player than Gaitan and is the one who's got experience playing in the Premier League. Why would we pay them and give them a better player, that's what really doesn't make much sense.

These rumours arent going away though and DiMarzio is fairly reliable from what I've seen so this is a weird one. Would be a bit of a step down from getting Bale that's for sure. We should be aiming to sign the elite players of the highest quality but maybe we are interested in him as back up only and he's happier to be a squad player than Nani.

I'd rate we'd probably be giving them Nani + cash, if it were true?

I haven't watched Gaitan much (ever!), so I'm not sure what he's worth and how his form has been but in the past we were always linked at 20-25m quid.

No, although if this article is to be believed, it was Mendes who arranged his transfer to Benfica.

The agent Jorge Mendes' links with United contribute to the sense that the Argentine playmaker will be a target next summer. Though Gaitan's agent is Rafael Irribarren, Mendes – who brought David de Gea to Old Trafford – concluded the deal with Benfica which delivered the 23-year-old to Lisbon.

Surely he would have gone to a bigger club in a better league before now if he was that good though, he's no youngster.
 
I think it's bull, for a start player swap deals hardly ever happen, Di Maria has just said he wants to stay and Gaitan himself has played down the deal.

Yeah, aye, I'm not too convinced about these rumours (or Gaitan!). But I've seen very little of him but most big clubs have much better wide players than him, an area we've struggled with.

But yeah, it's probably BS, thankfully.

They have better players than us yes, but players like Hazard, Bale and Sanchez - not Gaitan!
 
Di Marzio is reliable, but I hope this is one of those he gets wrong. He gets stuff wrong you know.
 
Do not know where this Di Marzio is reliable nonsense came from - this report, along with plenty of his other "stories", can be filed under "Utter Horeshit".
 
I know these Gaitan rumours are made up bullshit but I still hate this thread...every year.
