Nicolas Gaitan

ffs. When did this happen?
Argh!

Just before the last game of the season. There was serious interest from Zenit and some rumours about Liverpool but now he is probably going to stay since he is out for 4 to 6 months i think

So we might have had a narrow escape there?

I´m talking about Sálvio. I never read anything about an United interest in Sálvio. And about Gaitán i´m skeptical about this so called United interest. It doesn´t make sense and i don´t think he´s good enough for United. He has been alright in domestic football but this year in the Champions League, he was rubbish. Nani was more impressive and had better numbers than him.

Ok. Thanks.:)

I don't believe it tbh. It's just one of those stories that got reported by a couple of Portuguese sources, and the English media all rushed to report it, assuming it was probably true and not being prepared to do proper investigations in case the deal happened without them getting to report it. I do think he'll move this season, but if any Premier League club goes for him, it will probably be Chelsea or Spurs. Spain is probably most likely though.

Can see him moving to Valência. Nuno knows him well and has praised him in the past. Another chance for Mendes, Lim and Vieira to launder money.

Gaitán's Wikipedia page had him as a United player a few minutes ago, and now a Liverpool player (which might have changed by the time you read this).

I literally have no idea how good he is, and I have no desire to find out. In my head he is just another bog standard flashy attacking midfielder from 'the continent' which every decent team has 3 of. I wasn't even inspired to find out after the three previous times we've signed him.

Love wiki as a transfer news source!

Ha ha. And the best part was that after it described him as an attacking midfielder, it then went on to say: "In May 2015, Gaitàn signed a deal with Liverpool, worth €40 million. He said Liverpool are a team with "great character".

Rubbish! Would be pointless, just replacing Nani for the sake of it, theres not much difference between them, Gaitan has got more of a football brain than Nani but they are not the players we should be looking to build on + they are of similar age. We already have enough Left footed wide players as it is. Nani + cash for Salvio would make more sense.

Averages 3-4 goals a season for the last 4 years. Surely there have to be wingers with better stats. On the other hand in Valencia's beast mode season (2011) he also managed to score 4 times and was an absolute havoc at the right side. Just feel like this is one of those 'meh' players.

We'll be linked with Gaitan, Guarin, Cavani, and Sneijder even after they die.

Again, seriously?

I was playing FIFA with some mates the other day, and one of us scored with Gaitan and I was joking that we'd get linked again after that.

If no one else has bothered to pick him up in all this time then I don't see why we'd bother now. The only way I could even potentially see it is if him and Di Maria are the bestest of mates and they're hoping that it will help Di Maria settle and bring the best out of him.

Would not mind him at all, he is top of the assists charts in the Portuguese league with 15 assists and 4 goals, we are desperate for some creative players. If we can ship off Young or Valencia and replace them with Gaitan then our squad is stronger imo.

I am not too much into twitter, but I think this is my favourite tweet ever:

Former Benfiquista and compatriot Ángel Di María has given his approval of Nico Gaitán moving to Old Trafford. [A Bola]

Apparently, we asked di Maria if we should sign Gaitan. Di Maria, who isn't even trusted by his manager to start a game, but he was asked if we should sign player who would probably be his competition, and he gave his approval. Comical stuff.

What's even funnier is that di Maria's approval is seen as some kind of cruical point in this 'saga', when he allowed it then people from our club agreed we should buy him, immidiately.

Gaitan and Di Maria are pals right?

If so a Di Maria on form is the best player we have, so if he needs a close friend with him day in day out to make him feel more settled and generally happier with life then so be it, not too dissimilar to a thoroughbred racehorse taking his pal the pony, or sheep with him to the races to keep him happy until the race is off.

I'm not comparing Gaitan to sheep, or pony, by the way, I'm sure he'd be a perfectly capable squad player..........sure it's all BS though.
