Why? I honestly cant understand the hate for this transfer? Is it simply because people fear signing Gaitan means we wont address the centre of midfield? Usually any attacking player we bring in is universally rejoiced and yet Gaitan seems to be an exception

20m for a 24 year old Argentina international is a good bit of business imo

i don't hate the transfer, but i think there are better players to buy for 20 million pounds and macheda

Is Witsel one of Mendez's butt boys? If the answer is yes then we stand a chance of signing him.

I don't think so, if I'm not mistaken Witsel's agent is his father.

Gaitan isn't a centre midfielder.

I guess if he is coming then Fergie see's him as a sort of Silva type signing. A playmaker that can play on the wing or move centrally too. Silva faded badly for a month or two recently after taking the league by storm beforehand. The same could be said of Gaitan who was on fire all season until a couple of months ago! A couple of seasons playing in the PL would sort that out.

Seen a rumour that we're sending Fabio in the other direction as part of this. No idea what to make of this really, though.

Still don't like the idea of him coming here given that there are better players out there.

The Argentine Ashley Young, another option for the wings but nothing special unlike Hazard.

I'd prefer the next wide player we sign to be a bit special on the ball. Nani is the only one with that sort of ability when running with the ball at feet. Either that or someone who can play make from out wide so the playmaking beyond scholes isn't left so much on Rooney who is great but can be very inconsistent with his touch, ball manipulation etc.

But is this really happening ?That too at this stage of the season?

I surely pray not!

Young doesn't have average talent. He's not exceptionally talented but falling out of that bracket doesnt make one's talents average.

Is he?

He's decent in dribbling but nowhere near to the likes of Nani (I wont compare him with the heavy weight champions like Ronaldo or Messi). He's got a decent cross but nowhere near to the likes of Valencia (I wont compare him to the heavy weight champions like Beckham) and he's a decent hardworker but nowhere near to the likes of Park.

In my opinion he's average. Of course if one wants to compare him with wingers playing at Villa, Bolton and Blackburn then yes he's world class.

The resident Caf moron strikes again.

with a signing like this, my hope was to have a 4-4-1-1 or a 4-2-3-1 rather than a 4-3-3.
the only concern i have when it comes to getting gaitan, is his goal return. maybe it will change with a different role, but if that's not the case, then his lack of goals might make us play 4-3-3 where he will be a floating part of the middle three.
i do understand that the difference between the three formations is very subtle, but it is that subtle differences that can change the expectation from and impact of a player like gaitan.
in this regard hazard is better, going by stats. maybe it is cause of the role they play, but that's a part of what/whom we are choosing to buy.
but overall, gaitan will provide what we really don't have and have been missing. he has good talent on the ball, and a good left foot, and can play the role silva and mata play. hence i would be happy if we sign him, especially after the failure to do so in the last two summers.

And you've probably seen him play about twice but because you always complain, you do it once again.

One advice read the post before criticizing it. I was writing about Young and not Gaitan.

The transfer forum really brings out the best in some people. I bet most of you have seen gaitan a few times and twice against us where he was quite impressive i thought.

Someone has compared him to bebe already.

Another bebe in the making. He is overpriced at £20m.

I really hope this isn't true. He hasn't impressed me at all in the few times I've seen him play.

Gotta love the Transfer forum... if only the club was managed by people with the insight you guys have into football, maybe we wouldn't be so shit and might win the occasional trophy!

Given our signings in the last few years, the majority of which (i.e. not Bebe) were based on extensive scouting, I think I'll trust the club when they want to go and spend 20m on a player, not you lot.

I give this signing a 67.5% success rate, from the 3 minute Youtube clip I've seen of Gaitan, and also signing him on Football Manager, I can tell you he's decent, but nowhere near as good as Hazard/Gotze or even Neymar on the wing.
