Great news, I hope van gaal develops him as he has done so many young players in the past. As an aside I hope he sticks phil jones in at centre back and no more messing about in midfield or right back, could be brilliant if given a chance to develop his skills there.

Delighted if he's joining on the tour. Will love to see him get game time and I have a feeling he'll be the first of many young players that LVG will take a liking to.

He could be a benefactor of a push towards 433. Generally, I've struggled to see space for a player like him in our first team going forward. He's got talent, he will score goals and he'll be a good player, but eventually, he'll have to to hit Lampard-like numbers to make any kind of regular impression here, primarily because we have more sophisticated players that play in and around his position.

I do like him, I just don't know where he'll end up. He needs a Premier League loan in central midfield.

Nick Powell is due to join the United squad on their summer tour of the US over the next 72 hours after recovering from a minor injury.

However, James Wilson, who scored twice on his debut in Ryan Giggs’ last appearance for United in the 3-1 win over Hull City, has a finger injury and so will not be able to take any part in the tour.

Powell, an attacking midfielder, is expected to be available for the second tour game, against Roma in Denver, and is keen to impress Louis van Gaal.

Hope he gets a few minutes in our next game, he's a talented lad and we need a CM desperately, he's young and English which is great for HG quotas, players may look a level below in lesser teams, but until they're given the chance you'll never know, Powell is as close to any non first teamer to breaking into the 1st and if he has a good pre-season he could really kick on..

However, unfortunately for him, I see him as a playmaker, not your defensive, hold your position, boss the line, but the energy passing moving guy, he's not a bad all rounder, but if we he worked on his defensive elements, I think it'd make him a lot more complete, which most good CM's are nowadays.

Good job he's a footballer and not a tiddlywinker. Why is that stopping him playing football?
If you played football at a decent level, you would know even a minor injury restricts free body movement. It was same with fellaini and his wrist.

A wrist I can understand, because your wrists move around naturally whilst running about and you could therefore make the injury worse.

A finger can be strapped and unless your a goalkeeper or going to be taking throwing or tend to push and pull other players it's unlikely to be an issue.

 It's clear you have no knowledge on the subject.

Presumably he could end up making the injury much worse and would then have to wait longer to get back to playing. It's a shame but I'm sure the team knows what they're doing regarding injuries

There's a minor chance I'll admit, but there's no gain to risk any chance, it'd be pointless to aggravate it.

Is there a real chance he'll play for us in CM? He's a CAM and more of a striker than a CM. Maybe in a 3-man-midfield as the most attacking one.

Not unless all of a sudden his off the ball work rate goes up. Whenever I've watched him, he's been a forward or a number 10 and just doesn't track runners or close people down at all. I don't see it in him.

I don't think anyone in the Prem will take him on a loan as a CM. It's a risk and most teams now have two CM's that do the defensive work anyway. They'll want him as a ten and they'll get be getting a good one if they get him.

I'm excited to see what LvG can do with them, as well as Lingard.

I personally Lingard the least "LVG" than the other's, by that I mean, he's a very English winger, he's a got a trick or two, but he works because of his speed, that's his main asset, so will be very interesting as Januzaj and Powell are light years ahead technically at least, they're overall games may not be miles apart, but it's very obvious watching them both on a pitch for me, Lingard is a raw form of what he'll become, very "immature" in terms of his development compared to Januzaj for example, not that that's a bad thing, as we all know players like Drogba were notoriously late.

Not true at all. Have you watched him play much?

Admittedly highlights only for the past season, but I saw him on our pre-season tour last year and a few times for reserves prior to that. I'd say if you took his speed away he wouldn't have AN impact at all, and that's not to say he doesn't have anything else in his locker, but that I don't feel he can do any of them things unless he's at speed, how would you describe him?

I don't understand how can you watch him and describe him as a "very English winger".He's an extremely intelligent player.Vision, his movement both on and off the ball as well as finishing are his main strength. He plays better as a no.10 than on the wing.

@khoazany pretty much nails it. In addition to that I'd also say one of his main strengths is his eye for a goal.

Eh? I wouldn't even say he's that fast.

Seems I'm on my own here so I may have to watch a few highlights of last season tonight

They do look kind of similar, to be fair.

I really hope Powell makes an impact this season and his goal-scoring record on loan speaks volumes. I just can't shake the suspicion that he's a bit of a lazy cnut and his lack of work ethic might be what stops him becoming a Manchester United player (mainly based on comments from a single post-match interview, to be fair!) Hopefully he proves my suspicions to be unfounded. He's very young and wouldn't be the first person to be a lazy gimp in their teenage years, then pull their finger out as they mature.

Its not the report is wrong he was held back from the tour because of injury but not because of a broken finger
