So him going on tour late was just a rumor then from Jamie Jackson ?

Haven't spotted him in any of the pics yet.

Reckon he could have been a big gainer from going on tour if he did. Good to see LVG mention him along with first team players though and someone he needs to see.

Good to hear that.. Feel the youngsters are going to learn a lot from Van Gaal!!

He missed the tour because he was injured right? Has he recovered fully from it?

There's been no info that came out, but he hasn't featured for the U21's either so got to assume he was injured.

That's what Jamie Jackson reported as well when he said he had recovered and flying on tour but that didn't materialize.

I was talking to my dad earlier about players for next season and he mentioned Powell's name and I had completely forgotten about him. Interesting to see van Gaal mention his name.

I don't even want to entertain the thought he is only going to play as a 10!

I haven't seen much of him, does he have the quality that would also perform well as an 8?

I think LVG will use him as part of the front three - sort of what he would like to see from Nani and Zaha but it didn't materialise.

Yep, he can take the fourth striker's role if Chico leaves. Got a wonderful strike on him.

Anybody knos whats with this guy? Did he participated n reserves preseason, or is he going on loan, surely he has to.. was he injured? no reports on him just that he got squad number 22

Linked with forest last week. I presume he knows Pearce from the England set up so it would make sense.

Dissapointing. Hopefully it's a Prem loan though and not championship again.

He got injured in both consecutive summers with new managers. If SAF was here the way he rated him probably would have been much nearer the first team squad as SAF threw him in straightaway anyway in the first season.

That Pilip De Brun tweeted this yesterday as well -

Didn't they deny interest ? I don't want him going to the championship again anyway and that too to a Pearce managed club.

Surely Nigel Pearson could use him at Leicester ? Or any other lower Prem club ?

They denied zaha interest didn't hear anything about Powell.

To be honest I never really see anything special from him as I don't rate him as highly as people here tend to, so don't really understand the disappointment of him leaving on loan.

Leeds along with many clubs has pending enquiries for him along to one of their ITK blogs.

Would enjoy seeing him as a starter on loan in the premiership, get him some top flight competitive game time and I think we will see his true potential, still holding out a hope he will become a box to box midfielder.

Surely with the state of our midfield we should be at least giving him a go? If not then just get rid.

Strange how under Fergie it seemed like he was close to breaking through, now he just seems another victim of the dreaded 'we bought him for the future' line.

he wouldn't improve us immidiately, he would struggle to get games, so it is natural for him to get a good loan. If there are no clubs from premier league intereseted than we have no choice and loan him to championship, where he could get much more games, I am not afraid that if he had at least as good season as in wigan he could feature in our next preseason and impress boss. Its good for him to get games and hopefully he wont get injured or wont have any attitude issues. I rate him over Zaha..

So...despite his best position apparently being CM...nobody has seen fit to play him there. We didn't even in the fecking reserves.

He's got a fair bit of talent, but he is one lazy bastard at times.

His best position is basically off the striker in a Lampard sort of role. SAF wanted to convert him into a #8 but Wigan were short on strikers when he went there and they played him as a lone front man at times.

He has played CM and even DM for our reserves. Remember him doing a excellent bullying and bossing job on Sterling last to last season for example. And all his appearances for our first team including starting a CL match came as a CM.

He's not a CM. Even if he could become one in the future, currently we neither have the time nor the patience to mould him into one.

Not sure whats gone on with him behind the scenes but as far as on the pitch goes he's still young and has a lot of technical ability plus explosiveness. He needs regular gametime in a footballing side where he can play off the frontman. Championship loan again seems the best option. Maybe Derby if we're lucky.

Indeed on his first team appearances for United, a handful.

I have watched a good deal of the reserves and he played the majority of his games much further forward and even as a lone striker at times. Certainly more than in CM. I agree with you on what his best position is...unfortunately we're well stocked there.
