^^^ But neither Powell nor Lingard actually play in Cleverley's position.

I don't think Powell would do well in a 2 man midfield. He thrives in either the tip of a midfield 3 or an AM.

SAF and other's have said they see Powell's role in CM, however Lingard is a winger.

I have watched Powell in matches for Crewe, United last season, our under 21s last season and this, and more recently Wigan but I am yet to see him used in anything other than an attacking role, whether as the striker or the number 10.

I don't understand why people think he will be playing for us in a midfield two anytime soon. Maybe later on in his career.

Who think's that?

Plenty of United fans, including some on here, seem to think he should be recalled to help resolve our ongoing central midfield issues, take Cleverley, Anderson's places etc.

Cleverley himself played in Powell and Lingard's position before he got into the team. They are all central players, but not centre-forwards. Given that we are not really into that innovative stuff of #10s, I think they will end up in central midfield. Lingard has played centrally for us in pre-season, and Powell has played in the middle for us too.

I think they mean as an extra man in midfield, no one is preferring he sit in a midfield two, and him for me, plays the AM position, in the hole, a la Rooney or Kagawa... I think SAF was off

Inside forward type winger was what I meant, Lingard does better from the side than through the middle though, IMO

Yeah I think so too because he has space to run inside, but he's definitely better at running towards goal than running down the wing.

GOAL - Wigan 2-0 Bolton - Nick Powell (24 mins)
Manchester United loanee Nick Powell scores with an overhead kick after Chris McCann's initial effort is blocked.

Just saw Powell's goal on Sky sports news. Nice goal. Really cool finish. He has a real cockiness about him. Evident in his relaxed celebration. He exudes 'I don't give a feck' and I love it!

Easy.

I know we're all moaning about the lack of real quality in our squad atm, but we do have some serious prospects at the club who could go on to be wonderful.

Yes. I am very excited about Powell, Lingard and Keane brothers in particular. They are at different stages of development though imo and should be carefully handled so as to get them ready for first team if Moyes sees them as capable to make them cut. For instance, Powell, is regularly scoring this season and scored 3 in Europe as well. If a premier league side comes calling for him in January for loan, we should cancel Wigan's loan and send him to premier league club. Will keane on other hand, is having his chance first time in first team after that injury lay-off and may not fit in premeir league team at the moment. That said, if he is going to be on bench whole time at Wigan, better send him to other club in championship. Lingard, I have no idea how he is faring after his 4 goal debut.

I don't know why people want to play him in a midfield two. He will be compete for an AM position and so he should.

People forget that he played CM for Crewe. That's where he first started impressing. Those involved in the game and with his career so far seem to think he'll be a CM.
He did? Every suggestion I've seen as to his football at Crewe suggested he was a 10 for them.

Apparently so. He only made a name once he'd moved further forward and scored goals, but apparently he'd started impressing as a CM. He had to be moved forward because a) he was scoring for fun from midfield and b) they had an injury crisis up front.

This is all according to my mate that supports Crewe.

I see he's scored 7 in 17 for Wigan - not bad considering they've had an up and down season. What position is he playing for them?
