Yes i agree.A decent loan spell for a change and I am hoping he can have the same impact on our team as Ramsey has for Arsenal. They are quite similar players.

That's probably expecting too much.

It's easy to forget he's only 19, has loads of time ahead of him. I'll be very surprised if he doesn't make it here

The fact he's playing in a good competitive league and Europe is fantastic.

Cleverley got a shit load of goals for Watford when he was down there. Good way to get them playing which is what you want. Reserve football isn't enough.

Reserve football does not seem to be enough, except in extreme cases like Giggs or Januzaj. I would really like to see us have more players go on loan to the same team, who would play something approaching United football. The whole "United B team" in the lower leagues seems doomed to never happen, but perhaps we could come to an arrangement with a small club in the championship or league one to loan them half our reserve team each season.

Coyle seems convinced that the lad will go on to be a striker.

Powell earns praise

Manchester United youngster Nick Powell scored his third European goal of the season for Wigan Athletic on Thursday, netting the equalizer in a gutsy 1-1 draw with Rubin Kazan at the DW Stadium.
The 19-year-old converted from 20 yards after 39 minutes of the Europa League match, cancelling out Aleksandr Prudnikov's clinical opener. A cagey match followed, though Marc Antoine Fortune did miss a chance to seal a famous win in added time.
The draw leaves the Latics second in Group D with five points from three matches, a promising total for last season’s FA Cup winners. Three of those points were inspired by Powell’s two-goal brace during a 3-1 win over MK Maribor last time out.
Speaking afterwards, manager Owen Coyle was full of praise for his loan star and expressed his opinion that he could break into United’s first team upon his return to Old Trafford at the end of the 2013/14 season.
“After the season with us he will be good enough to go back and challenge (for a place at United),” Coyle told reporters. “He still has a lot to improve on and he will tell you that but he has ability. He is such a talented lad and I just want to get the best out of him.
“I'm giving him a platform and a wee bit of wisdom from my own playing days but he has to push himself on and you could see from his performance he is doing that. All I can do is try and impart any knowledge and experience I have as a player and a striker.

“As a manager I've worked with many international strikers and there is no doubt Nick Powell can go on to achieve that level. I believe he has everything in his locker, with progression and natural development, to attain that level. Aside from his goal he has pace to burn and is so elegant running the with ball.”

I hope Fergie is right. Other than being an obvious goal-threat, I haven't seen enough in his all-round game to say he's nailed on for the first XI, at least in central midfield. Doesn't seem to move with enough urgency on and off the ball for my liking, basically not getting involved enough. He has some class in terms of ability, but not what I'd call 'nailed on'.

That said, Gradi/Ferguson know a bit about young players.

Was the winner after Oliver Norwood equalized for Huddersfield. Had forgotten about him, good on him.

Just come on for James Perch, right on the hour mark. Rubin Kazan are 1-0 up at the moment.

Scores again, although they're 3-1 down. Will Keane was taken off at half time

Is he much worse than Cleverley or Anderson at this point in time? Young midfielders such as Ramsey, Barkley are thriving so maybe we should give him a try.

His form in the Championship playing as a striker probably isn't reason to be throwing him into the team just yet.

We could pluck a CM from any club in the prem and they'd contribute just as much as clev and ando atm.

I read somewhere that we may be thinking of recalling him at the end of Dec and loaning him to a Premiership side given how he's impressed so far.

I read the same recall rumours but it said that Moyes wanted to make him part of the squad.

What's his best position though? Striker or attacking midfield? Maybe he plays in similar position as Rooney and Kagawa?

Powell would probably work well for us. He would be expected to bring a lot of the qualities we need. He's pretty quick, he loves to get forward. He can pass between the lines and score. He's no slouch either and while his positioning in CM is up for debate he'd probably do just as much defensively as Cleverley or Anderson. Partner him next to Jones and he could play the Giggs role I would say.
Can we switch him with cleverley? There is absolutely no way he'd do worse thab what cleverley is giving now.

Selling Cleverley could be an option once Powell becomes ready. We cannot carry too many, the squads are only 25. If/when we decide Powell is good enough to become a squad player, we then have to decide if he would be more useful than Cleverely I think. We can't decide all of our midfielders are good enough to be squad players, we only need one or two, then I'd say 3 players genuinely competing to be in the first two.

Isn't there a homegrown rule in CL squads where a certain amount of players have to have trained with their club for 2 or 3 years before turning 21? I'm sure there is a technicality like that with 4 of the 8 nationally homegrown players having to come from the club.

Might be a reason as to why someone like Cleverley is afforded chances to prove himself more often than other despite a string of poor performances since the turn of the year.

Someone like Powell would count as homegrown I think though. Even people like De Gea and Jones, and Januzaj. I think we'd probably be covered.

I'd be amazed if we ever sell Cleverley, or at least not unless we're a few years on and he's in a Phil Neville situation of wanting more football. Even if he doesn't kick on like we hope he's a very useful player who loves the club, understands the culture of what we do, is gathering lots of experience and who counts as homegrown both in terms of PL and CL squads. Unless we suddenly become like the Galaticos and start buying every midfielder out there I can't see any reason why we'd shift him, particularly when we're carrying the likes of Anderson in the squad.

Well I'm pretty sure he wouldn't be sold in place of Anderson. But in terms of midfield changes over the next few years, he's hardly really nailed himself into a spot. Right now, the agreement seems to be Anderson is first in line to make way for a reinforcement. The reality is, that one new player will unlikely transform our midfield from a relatively poor one to a great one, and we may still look to add there in future. This time, we wouldn't have Anderson to sell. Cleverley may be fortunate that Carrick may be moved on then, if not, he's next up.

Also, we don't need a squad full of the players you described. We may get another who fits that desription, perhaps from our own academy. If Powell comes back in the summer, who makes way for him? Who makes way for Lingard? We can only sell Anderson once! United is a club where you cannot rest on your laurels, and there is always somebody up and coming who wants your spot. I'm not convinced being homegrown alone will save Cleverley, especially if other homegrown players look the part. It didn't save Gibson when Cleverley himself wanted his spot.
