BBC:

"A moment of real class from Nick Powell hauls Wigan level - the on-loan Manchester United midfielder taking a touch and planting a right-footed shot into the bottom corner from 30 yards out. And with his weaker foot too. Superb."

Isn't he right-footed?

Yeah been watching the match, playing off of Holt and now off of Fortune. Could have had another but was closed down and blocked well by the defender when he was going through

Sounds like he's doing really well there, is his loan for the whole season?

Really hope he gets a chance next season, seems like he has the talent.

Lovely goal.

If Europa League graphics are any correct then he seems to be playing the #10 role.

Shame that cos I'd love to see him step into the breach as a number 8 for us. I see a bit of Lampard in him. He's not the sexiest footballer to watch but he's clever, takes up good positions and is dangerous within 30 yards of goal. He could easily play that attacking midfielder feeding off the knockdowns as Lampard did with Drogba but I think he's got enough strings to his bow to do more and mature into the kind of footballer Lampard is now, a genuine number 8 who picks his time to attack.

ha ha, Powells post match interview was so much "I don't give a feck".

He likes to put himself about which is nice given his attacking priority. He's been impressive at Wigan, he can play the no.10 role but also lead the line quite well.

How was his general play?

There were some periods when Rubin Kazan dominated the play and Powell didn't see much of the ball but otherwise it was positive. Set up two dangerous counter attacks and made himself available for the lay offs.

Excited to see this lad back at United next season. Hopefully gets the full season at Wigan and while it would be nice for him to play more in midfield, the fact that he's one of their main men and playing well for them is enough for me.

His potential is absolutely vast IMO. There's something of the Lampard about him as far as his long shots are concerned.

There was an interview with him and Holt after the game, and it sounded like Holt said (about Powell): "He's a worse trainer than me". Anyone catch that?

Despite his goals, I still think he'll need another loan, preferably in the Premier League. I watched the game last night, and goal aside, he still did not look ready to add to our first-team and fix any of the issues we have at the moment.

I don't get the feeling that he's going to be a central midfielder having watched him used effectively behind the forward or as a forward in this loan spell.

If by centre mid Sir Alex meant like Lampard's position in his prime, then maybe that makes more sense.

He'd definitely add goals to our midfield in some way. I think we definitely need that in some form, but his ball play isn't there yet.

I don't really like the fact that he's been playing as a forward at Wigan. It will help him develop his eye for goal and Scholes benefited from being used up front for a period of time but ultimately I'd prefer Powell to play in midfield in the long run and he needs to get some experience there. He'll have hard time getting games up front for United and probably even harder behind the striker if we keep Rooney and/or Kagawa.

Based on his time at Crewe, and now how he's being employed at Wigan, he looks like a forward, or an attacking midfielder at least. He plays very advanced and his primary asset is scoring goals. His passing range is certainly his weak suit so far, in my opinion. He's still young, so that could improve, but he seems to have played all across the front 4 for Crewe and now playing very high up the pitch at Wigan.

Hopefully his all round game will improve, but he's proving to be a terrific goal scorer, and a great 'edge of the box' player. I think we'd be wrong to go against his strengths and try and mould him into a deeper player to help solve our midfield problems. If we were well stocked with quality midfielders but short on attackers, we'd probably be sat here purring over his goal threat and hoping he develops into a top class forward. His assets are all in attack. I think we should nurture that.

Good loan for so far I'd say.

He's definitely someone we should be integrating into our squad next season

Although it would be nice to see him in CM I don't think Wigan put an emphasis on that area. They can play the ball out of trouble quite well for a Championship side but they mostly use wide players to tuck in when they do have the ball. I've seen their midfield being bypassed when in possession and I don't think Powell would have like that.

He's got to work on his awareness when he's to be a CM, he looks a bit careless at times when he drops deep with the ball, especially with his back to the goal so while it would be good for him and us long term, Coyle sets up the team the way he's going to take the full benefit out of it. The good thing is he plays Powell who is an instrumental figure for them. He may end up a no.8 sort of player but I don't think it'll happen soon.
