Today you mean? Didn't see the game but he's probably still rusty after his operation and lack of pre-season. His range of passing is normally very good.

I mean in general. I've been impressed with his short passing in general, in the same way Cleverley and Welbeck pass and flick the ball around quickly he can do it too. But when it comes to playing someone in or switching the play I think he has plenty of work to do to refine his efforts

We'll have to disagree on that one. I've seen plenty of quality ambitious passing from him.

I like that he's playing up front for Wigan. We'll turn him into a midfielder in the future, hopefully he'll hone his attacking skills playing up front for Wigan and apply it when used in midfield in the future.

Maybe we should play Phil Jones further forward and get him REALLY ready to play centre back.

Excited with the start some of our youngsters have made on their loan spells. It would be some achievement if we can have Zaha, Januzaj, Powell and Lingard all firmly part of first team in couple of years time.

Januzaj played as a striker for the reserves last season, does that make him a striker?

Powell is playing there due to injuries but he's an attacking midfielder. Best thing for him is that Coyle is playing him regularly and he's impressing.

Yeah, I see him in the lampard mould and taking on that type of role. I don't personally seeing him playing in a midfield 2 so I wonder if we'll play a system that allows him the chance?

I think he could play in a 2 but needs to be a bit busier. He has the physical attributes to play there. I think in the future I see us playing more in a 4-3-3 that will suit players like Powell and Januzaj (and Lingard) better.

How has his overall play been like?
I liked him a lot in the reserves when he was playing deeper... Is he getting involved in the buildup for Wigan?

He played alot upfront for Crewe before we signed him, dont think he was a typical striker though more like where Rooney plays for us now.

Exactly what I thought.
Drifts deeper naturally quite a lot too.
Yep. Considering he was a striker in this game, he played facing goal quite a lot. That bodes well for him dropping deeper as he gets older.

If anyone finds a stream for today's Wigan game I'd appreciate a PM.

Apparently one of Wigan's top performers once again. The Blackburn CBs struggled with him all game and Hanley was ultimately sent off for elbowing him in the face. He'll play more withdrawn now that Holt is back from injury.

We might have messed up our incoming transfers but the outgoings in terms of loan have been spot on. All of them loanees are performing well at a decent level.

I was a tad surprised that Powell didn't have any takers from a PL team. Loads of team could do with a scoring midfielders(including ours but he isn't good enough for us right now)

All depends how regularly he's going to play.

I'm sure there were a few PL sides interested, but perhaps couldnt offer him a guaranteed place. Wigan is a smart move.

Fair enough plus Coyle has a nice history of developing good English players(Sturridge, Wilshere) so that probably counted in his favour.

Sounds like he's playing well. The second goal against Maribor was class. So long as he plays, who cares if it's upfront or midfield. Paul Scholes was a forward player, before being converted. He became so good that SAF couldn't leave him on the bench anymore. And he wasn't going to drop Eric Cantona.

It's up to Nick Powell to prove how great he is and basically force David Moyes to pick him, by being continually excellent

great to see him continuing to impress at wigan. i hope we will see more of him, januzaj, zaha and lingard in our team next season.

i can see the resemblance of powell and lampard, especially when they are around the opposition's penalty box. he seems to have the ability to just create some spaces for himself to have a go at goal. and he surely can strikes the ball well.

This is looking very true. Stark contrast to a bunch of disaster-loans last season.

EDIT: Owen Coyle's an odd one. He's the sort I'd hate to see take charge of my club (assuming I supported a club at his sort of level) but I love to see him in charge of United loanees. He's got a really good pedigree with the latter (loanees from top clubs) but tends to yoyo in my estimation in terms of the former.

Wasn't as easy as I thought when I first saw it - it came really quickly at him and was slightly behind him - but he should have done better.

Blackpool win penalty from a break after Powell lost possesion too easily

Just switched on. Coverage is weird. The commentators seem too loud/sound from the pitch and stadium too quiet and there's no score/timer in the top left

technical problems

Think that early header showed why he's no striker. Feeding off scraps yet again, hopefully Holt comes on to allow him to drop back.
