If we play him in the last three games he gets a medal. Not that he deserves one, mind, but it would be nice to give him an extra one for when we're posting POWELL 10 - 0 STERLING in 2022.

You sure about that? He has 2 apps according to WhoScored.

Far more interesting than if he gets a medal or not is what fergie has planned for him next season...interesting to see what he has in mind.

Is he injured ?

Isn't playing for the U21's and isn't getting into the first team squad either. Was in training pics a few days before the Arsenal game.

No idea, he's disappeared off the face of the planet in recent times. Very odd.

I think he's injured. Charni, Januzaj, Vermijl all travelled with the squad.

Travelled where? It's a home match.

Edit - Or you mean to London last week ?

With the squad. They were with the first team.

Perhaps. I'm sure he'll be out of this world when he starts getting games either way.

urghh...

Ah Ok, i guess they were training and preparing etc.. with the first team. Interesting that.

But i think, Powell is more or less considered a part of first anyway. He trains with them regularly and not the U21's same as with Buttner. Went to Qatar too and goes to almost all away matches regularly unless he has to play for the U21's.

Just had a look at the England under 21 Euro's and under 20 World cup squads but he doesn't seem to be in either is there a reason for this?

Injured.

Time to recover now #peaceful #nextseason #lookingforward

Not sure what he's done exactly, but he was tweeting Sam Johnstone the other day and sounded like he'd needed stitches and was struggling to walk. all the tweets have since been deleted though.

SAF said something about Powell and Smalling undergoing small operations after we wrapped up the title, so that they can be ready for pre-season.

I'm sure he'll get his chances playing in the cups next season as CM/second striker, and depending on our midfield situation and injuries, he might be featured a lot more than expected. Hope he'll be patient and keep his head down.

I honestly do think Moyes will adore Powell next season. Reckon some will be surprised at the amount of game time he'll recover. Hopefully anyway.

Moyes is under enormous pressure to win a trophy, I don't think he'll be able to afford playing the younger, inexperienced lads.

Fergie was picking younger, inexperienced players less often in big games than he used to, simply because he had developed a much bigger and better squad.
But he still wanted these lads in order to develop them for the future. As will Moyes.

Moyes appears to like ACM's who get into the box more than SAF does, in fact Moyes gets his side to overload the box alot of the time. Powell should come in handy.

Maybe Powell could be the new Tim Cahill.

Of course Powell will feature at some point, but to what extent? There's also a massive difference between the start of Fergie's and Moyes' United careers,

Correct and right, You won't win anything with kids.

Brilliant.

Hernandez is spot on. Moyes will surprise the skeptics and play the boy. I can even see Nick pushing Shinji pretty hard for minutes.

Would be nice but Powell would have to undergo a huge level of development in next to no time at all for that to happen. Kagawa is absolutely miles ahead of Powell at this point.

I am impressed by Powell, mind. He's got that ability that a lot of class players have of being able to turn quickly and do damage with his next move, and he's also a better dribbler than I originally anticipated. I felt uneasy saying it at the time but I did often wonder just how the hell we'd fit him into a Fergie United team. It was Pogba all over again; only that Powell isn't as good and is more suited to a position occupied by two of the best second strikers/advanced midfielders out there (Kagawa and Rooney, this season aside). We either would've found it enormously difficult trying to afford him game time or we would've shafted him into a midfield 2 despite his positional naivety. Powell in a midfield two at this moment time at this level is a huge no go, and it seems unlikely we would've played him on the wing ahead of Welbeck even if he can play there.

Hopefully Moyes can find a way of developing him. Powell would in theory benefit enormously from Rooney's departure if we intend to play him behind the front man, so that's something to think about. Even if he is to play deeper though, we would be able to risk Powell more often in the far more suitable 3 man midfield and bypass his main weakness. If there is any good at all to come from Fergie's departure, in fact - and it is a fecking minimal advantage relative to what we're going to lose - it's that we may be more flexible so as to allow young midfielders to flourish. The most important attribute required of any up and coming midfielder to star in this United team just happens to be the one that is the most rare - the mental and tactical side of positioning. We needed someone with a way above average level of maturity and such players are rare (Morrison...:().
