feck going on loan. I reckon he'll aim to have a few cameo appearances in the league next season. As some have said, if we wrap up the title early, we may even see him in midfield a few times this season. Scored a nice goal against Wigan already.

I just think he's not the type to send on loan - similar to Pogba (not in terms of playing style, but in terms of "level" they are on). If Pogba would have stayed this season, I reckon he'd be in contention of starting/bench for the first team. If Powell has a good pre-season, then I'm purely confident that he will not go out on loan.

Love watching him play in the U21's. Clear talent.

Definitely agree with that but that doesnt count for anything much next season, PL games when the title is won are even cheaper than Carling Cup games.

Cina, you are probably right about the loan, but yes, as you said, just because of the position he is in I am dreaming about him being a child prodigy like Rooney who is ready to play for the United first team at 19.

I think it depends on the player. Ronaldo and Rooney already had experience playing at the top level (Ronaldo less so), likewise Nani, Anderson etc, so SAF probably never saw any point in sending them on loan because they were clearly ready. Powell on the other hand only has league two experience so it seems the natural thing to do would be to send him on loan, like Cleverley and Welbeck, rather than throw him slap bang in the middle of our weakest area and expect miracles.

The counter argument is we have played Fletcher in there, we have played Anderson off form there, we have even played the likes of Da Silva in there on occasion. So how much harm can it do? We seem to do OK with the marshmallow, soft-centre approach.

Oh no doubt, he certainly couldn't do much worse than some of the midfields we've had to throw out in recent years, but I'd like to think that with Scholes retiring (again), Fletcher being done for (sadly), Carrick getting older (32), Ando being ... Ando, Jones being a defender, that we will do something about our midfield this Summer to avoid those fecking formations and midfield combinations happening in the future.

Or bring just Scholes out of retirement again and make Fletcher a bionic man.

I just don't want a (very talented) 19 year old with only league two experience being one of our main "hopes" for solving our short term midfield problems.

It will still be good experience for him and who knows how well he might perform in them to give SAF something to think about come the summer

Highlights of the England u19 game. Powell involved in most of them.

May not be the fastest around, but he can beat players with relative ease at times.

I'm not sure what I think of playing him up front. I mean, Fergie has clearly said a few times that he'd like to see Powell in the middle one day and be a Scholes-type of player; yet every time I've seen him he plays up front.

Could very well be part of his development (most likely) - but it would be nice to see him in the middle one in a while. To be fair, maybe he has played there a few times but if that's the case then I clearly miss those games.

He was playing in the Lampard role for England from what i can gather. Not exactly upfront.

He has played deeper for our first team and our U21's both too.

In that case, fair enough. I clearly need to watch a good string of U21s games in succession before I say anything like that.

Nice video. He clearly has the skill to wiggle in tight area, and an eye for through ball. It will be wasted to 'just sit' him in midfield two.

It's starting to bug me how little I have seen of him. I don't have MUTV so I am basically fecked.

There's almost always reliable streams for the U21's and there's a whole subforum dedicated to youth football with fixtures etc! No excuses! ;)

With Januzaj getting his squad number it reminded me of this fella, with the league wrapped up would love to see him get a bit of game time, I know we still got the record points total to go for a couple of sub appearances would be nice & even a possible start v Swansea if we can't get that record at that stage.

Would rather we see more of Januzaj and Powell than focus on the points total. The development of our youngsters carries far greater importance than something like that, in my opinion.

I would agree with that but a lot of the talk coming from players & even the manager would suggest it is something we are quite focused on. I think we will drop points to Chelsea anyway so can't see us getting it.

Couldn't agree more, in fact a few games back I was waiting for this, in the hope that our youngster may see some game time which excites me

Even if we play our best XI we prob wont get the record points total. The players will naturally have eased off a bit and we are playing against Arsenal and Chelsea who are playing for CL spots.

Give Powell a run in the side, at least a few 45min appearances.

Powell was on the substitutes bench for 2/3 games recently. He will probably get starts in atleast 1, if not 2 remaining games imo.

Most likely to get them and has already started a CL game.

Really hope he makes it. Been too long since we had a midfielder who can regularly spank it from distance, Scholes doesn't do it much anymore.

Gibbo needed about 3 sighter shots before once went on target. Powell has had one shot for us and it flew in

I think he might be hurt. I have asked in a couple other threads but haven't gotten a response from anyone. Either way, he hasn't been with the u21's in their last couple games and hasn't featured on the first teams bench either.

Wasn't most of this talk before we wrapped the league up?

I think it might have just been a way of keeping the players motivated.

I doubt they really give a damn now.

Knowing how Fergie works, it's probable that we will see something like that, given that he's never been one to do what he tells the media. The games against Swansea and West Brom are more likely than the Arsenal and Chelsea games where we see altered line ups but I wouldn't be adverse to see it in all of them.

If/when we see Powell get game time, I wonder what position he'll play, CM or AM

It seems that we've signed this player a year ago and from a personal level, I haven't really learned much about him at all. I'd have loved to see him at first-team level a bit more often, or even in the England U21s who I've watched a few times.

I'm not a fan of our reserve side at all, their games are generally a terrible watch.

I don't want us to field a weakened side against Chelsea and Arsenal...but after that it's youngsters ohoy for me....

But no way we are gonna be responsible for cheating Spurs out of a C.L spot

I don't think we should go overboard with the kids personally. Only Powell and Januzaj stand out as obvious choices anyway, and perhaps Thorpe and Vermijl.

I wouldn't worry, we know with SAF he knows how to handle them, very unlikely he would start them IMO, probably give him half hour towards the end then take it from there on how well they do etc I would imagine.
