I agree, adding the fact both keepers played off their tree, you almost wish there was an extra game.

Yea game 7 was a battle of the goalies mostly. Varlamov was definitely their best player for me. In particular the kick save off of a deflection he had (almost the exact same thing as what Lundqvist did a period later) was excellent. Feel bad for Lundqvist as he was the goalie who got beat by the fluke shot in that game or it was a tie in their little battle there. But that's why you pepper the net with shots - you never know when you'll get a crazy deflection.

Pens > Caps

Being honest, I think the Caps might be a bit better in terms of the level of talent on their team. Still think the Pens will win the series though. They have a much better mix of veteran and youth. Fleury will have to play well though, which isn't always a given.

Have to admit, I'm a bit curious as to why Nylander doesn't play for the Caps. He was always a very effective player with the Rangers. I wish we signed him that summer instead of Gomez even if it was for more years than Sather wanted to give... He and Jagr worked magic together. Frustrating to watch sometimes, but they had natural chemistry.

Oh, and just to give you guys a bit of a laugh. Quite a few Rangers fans are now using Drury as a scapegoat saying it was a poor move for him to play with a broken hand as our captain. Apparently a "true" captain would have sat so we could call up Artem Anisimov to play 5 minutes a game. I guess Yzerman, Crosby, and Thornton are poor leaders then, seeing as they've all played with something broken in the playoffs before. Astounding. Makes me a bit ashamed to be a Rangers fan. I feel sure that if it was some young player like Ryan Callahan playing with a broken hand they'd have been lauding him for how gutsy he is. Drury does it and he's a poor captain. New Yorkers make me wonder sometimes..

NYR - WAS was a great series. Not really a huge Caps fan but I'd love to see them beat the Penguins. It's the ultimate matchup isn't it? Ovechkin vs Crosby (and Malkin).

Really looking forward to Vancouver - Chicago as well which starts tonight. Don't know if I'll be able to stay up for the game though. Detroit - Anaheim is going to be very interesting as well.

Wrong thread probably but is anyone watching the world championship btw?

Yep, we should have won today Iron Stove. Russia seem to be able to win even when they aren't playing that well, just like last year. They'll probably start playing better in the elimination round.

By the way Iron Stove it's Valborg. Aren't you supposed to be out getting drunk for no reason at all ;)

Haha.. Hello Big Butts my old friend! I actually was at a fire for the first time in ten years and I've had a few but I'm staying in tonight.

Was gutted by Swedens loss today especially after drawing one back just before the end of the third period. Fecking Weinhandl.. Still a nice game of hockey all in all.

Bit surprised by you supporting Sweden in this game tbh you old commie ;)

Quality game tonight, thought Vancouver was going to run with it but boy did Chicago ever make them stutter... hope Chicago get on in game 2 so this series gets interesting back to Chicago

Ok, I took it easy last night aswell.

Of course I'm supporting Sweden, it's my 2nd nation after all. Been living here for 17 years now.

I was just joking with you.. Nothing wrong with supporting Sweden. Many Serbs sure seem to have a soft spot for Russia though.

B's dismantling carolina 4-1 with 7 minutes left in the third. another sweep maybe?

Nicklas Lidström with 2 goals and an assist yesterday, one of which was the game winning goal with 50ish seconds left of Detroits 3-2 win against Anaheim. What a legend.

Looking forward to Washington - Pittsburgh in a couple of hours. Finally a game that's not played in the middle of the night over here.

BIG win by Chicago, they imposed themselves on the game again when they trailed... they had a good shout in game 1 as well, this might be a quick series if Chicago can win both in Chi-town

YEAH Staal(!) and Fedorov.. That CAR 3-3 goal was amazing!

I'm so happy NYR and NJD are out.. These teams are full of very good players for The USA like Parise, Langerbrunner, Gomez, Drury, Martin, Dubinsky etc. Hopefully at least 2-3 of these are not completely crushed by losing Game 7.. This also means that great players like Ove, Semin, Staal, Green are not coming to Switzerland.

Team USA: "No there's no need for Parise(44+49). Let's get Chris Higgins(12+11) instead!!" Those idiots should not be the ones building the Olympics team in 2010. The Czechs or Finland will be a tough game in the quaterfinals next Wed/Thu..

They actually didn't invite Parise? That's crazy. I was upset that Sweden didn't invite Doug Murray  If I was from the States I'd probably kill myself over something like that. Are you sure he didn't reject or suddenly get an injury like so many players "happen" to do this time of year?

Yeah Parise wasn't even invited, 100% true according to TSN, yet he was willing to participate.

Hope he snubs them in the Olympics, though I doubt a player would do such a thing.

Markus Näslund has allegedly announced his retirement. Brilliant player back in the day. Classy move by him as he had a no move clause and had all the right to see out his very expensive contract eventhough he's been a shadow of his former self recently.

Very classy. Bit sad to see him go, he did what he was signed to do. I think he realized that playing a full year under Torts high tempo, high conditioning system at this point in his career would have been just a bit too tough for him. At the same time, this opens up a couple of avenues for the Rangers. If I know Sather we're going to find a way to sign Gaborik who will then be injured for 2/3 of each season of his monster contract.

The Blackhawks - Canucks series has been highly entertaining so far. The only one I really feel compelled to watch as a neutral. The Hawks really are an exciting team with a very bright future. They've already scored 3 goals in a single period 6 times so far in the playoffs. As a fan of the offensively challenged Rangers, I am very envious.

I haven't really watched the Vancouver - Chicago series more than highlights but I really like what the Hawks are doing with their young team.

I'm watching Detroit - Anaheim right now(2-2 so far) and waiting for the second period to start. Incredibly entertaining game and a great matchup. Detroit with their technical and fast hockey against a very physical and talanted Anaheim team. I love the Anaheim 1st line and Getzlaf in particular is just a brilliant player.

The contrast between watching this and Sweden - Switzerland earlier is huge. That game put you to sleep in comparison.

3-3 at full time and two OT periods later the game is still not finished.

Quack!

and the game is over. Was a very intense and entertaining game during regular time.

What the hell is going on?

I've only had it on in the background, but there's been an incident in the game, did the puck cross the line or not? They showed a slow replay, then some freeze stills, and it really pretty clearly did. And yet the video ref bizarrely said no, and they went back to the studio and most of the pundits agreed it was too inconclusive too?!

Whe employs these people? What's the point of having technology if you're not gunna use it right

Just strange...

I'm not much into Hockey and know nothing about it..

but I was watching this at my cousin's house and it seemed like it DEFINITELY crossed the line.. They showed it again and again and again and it was so bloody obvious it crossed the line.

Not sure what held them back from giving it as a goal?

Well no I'm no expert on hockey either

I'm reasonable good at judging whether something has crossed a particular point though

Someone needs to find a pic of the still and post it. Obviously you'd never judge it real time, but that's what the video official is for. Have to question the capability of that particular official to make such decisions, because he's got a pretty easy decision very wrong for me. Not that it had any great affect on the game

Crosby and Ovechkin score a hat-trick each as Washington wins 4-3 in game two.

Yeah that was a ridiculous decision. And at that stage of the game. Bit like the Chelsea - Barca game last night. Great series though. Washington - Pittsburgh is shaping up nicely too!

2 tales from last night:

No matter how hard the Ducks play, Detroit will always be in a shout... what a dominating offensive performance, going together with some strange Hillier mistakes... Giguere is lurking.

Vancouver is only in this series because of Luongo, shame they lost after killing Chicago in the first and 3rd.

Vancouver had like 15 shots in the whole game.

Detroit finally got the best of Hiller. Their second line of Franzén-Filppula-Hossa was immense in that game.

Nice game by Pittsburgh and yeah the atmosphere seemed incredible.

Hope Gonchar will be okay after that knee on knee incident. I can't really tell if Ovechkin did that on purpose or not but since they are Russian team mates one would think that he wasn't out to hurt him.
