The Avs are fecking awful this year, should have won at least two more cups when they had everyone in the late 90s and early 00s

they were great...thanks to ray bourque. ;)

Ray Bourque was good, but that Blake trade was a stroke of genius. Sakic is a legend, and Forsberg is one of the most talented players I have ever seen he could have got 125 assists in a season if he played in the 80s. and well Roy was Roy

no doubt!! i was joking. you forgot to mention the great patrick roy (although i couldn't stand the guy...hab connection).

He was far from the most important piece, although he had a stunning game 7 v Jersey in 2001, that first goal was brilliant, although Sakic's that put us up 3-0 and went between Stevens legs and over Brodeurs shoulder was excellent.

Yeah I loved to watch the Avs back then. Forsberg, Sakic, Bourque, Roy..

Haven't watched them a lot this year, but they seem pretty awful right now. Second worst team in the NHL as it stands. A couple of good drafts though and they could be back at the top.

:nono:

ps. Congrats on 25K

bruins up 1-0 at the end of two. nyrfan818 you out there? important points at stake for both...especially for your rangers.

well...1-0. the Bs clinch 1st and home ice. not that that means anything. they did the same a few years ago and got bounced in the first round by the hated habs.

vvvvvvvv  about the cnut avery. ultimate wum is right! vvvvvvvv

Oh yes, I was watching. And tearing my eyes out. You think they might play with a bit of heart seeing as every game is of the utmost importance right now... Other than Ryan Callahan I didn't see a single guy who didn't look like he was just going through the motions.

I'll still hold out to hoping that I'm happy with the 7th or 8th spot. I think we'd have a better chance against the Devils or Bruins than Caps, Penguins, Flyers etc.

Sean Avery, ladies and gents

Doesn't seem to have affected Tim Thomas' performance this time (given the final score), but I gotta say that Avery's good at what he does. He's the ultimate WUM

 Love him or hate him, he makes the game more interesting. But what really annoyed me about that was that the refs broke the rules in order to call penalties in that situation (although 4 on 4 was better for us, I hate when rules are blatantly disregarded). They used the overheard screen to call penalties which is not allowed.. Sometimes I genuinely wonder how NHL refs get, and keep, their job.

The thing with a monumental contract feck up like that in a salary cap world is that it screws the team up for years to come. Why doesn't the Rangers owner fire Sather? Gomez is really frustrating to watch and Redden.. what happened to him? I feel sorry for you guys who are stuck with those contracts from what.. another five years? In football a bad transfer is nowhere near as damaging as players can always be sold at a cut price/let go. But who will take those players with their cap hit? I saw that Semin - Staal fight btw, it was hilarious.

As a kid I used to support St Louis because Brett Hull was my favourite player back then. I still like them, they have a brilliant young team coming through but I can't really say that they are "my team" in the sense that my local team are or in the way I feel about United, where I would rather watch United - Charlton than Liverpool - Chelsea if they were on at the same time.
Did you guys see Johan Franzéns mid-air slapshot goal yesterday?

The Rangers owner (Dolan) doesn't fire Sather because he's an incompetent idiot who seemingly likes equally incompetent GMs. If you know anything about basketball and the Knicks, think Isiah Thomas. But yea, no one in their right minds would take our big contracts off of our hands. It's just amazing how Wade Redden earned more this year than Henrik Lundqvist, a genuine star player. Didn't Hossa get 7 million the year as well? I genuinely don't know how Sather got the idea that Gomez, Drury, and Redden were each worth about 7 million each - more than genuine star players.

Fair play on the just liking St. Louis. I have to say that I'm rooting for them to make the playoffs if only because I love John Davidson. He's just done a phenomenal job with that organization. I miss him as colour commentator for Rangers games.

And yep, I've seen that goal. One of the better goals of the season without a doubt. The best I can think of off the top of my head are the goals by Bobby Ryan or Alex Ovechkin earlier this year. Franzen can make some nice money this year if he chooses, he's a free agent I believe.

That's seriously fecked up. Don't you think the owners might listen to the fans though as you all seem so pissed off?

I don't think I'm emotionally capable of being a die hard fan of another team in any sport. I mean, supporting a team like United is a walk in the park but when it comes to other teams like my local one there's just so much agony involed. Still I'll always follow St Louis. I really hope they make the play-offs although I can't see them going very far.

I really like what I've seen from Bobby Ryan. Anaheim seem to building another very good team. Maybe they could do some damage this year. We'll see about Franzén and who Detroit will keep. It basically seems down to him or Hossa right now, the latter being a superb player. Franzen is a clutch performer and a "homegrown talent". I'd keep Hossa though.

Can't wait for the Play-offs to begin.

Draft lottery tonight,

Hope the Avalanche end up getting the #1 pick, only team likely to never trade it to those dirty Leafs.

Bruins 4, montreal 2!! B's in 5!!

Ack, great game though, could have gone either way.

All I know is whoever writes us off (You by the looks of things) needs to re-assess their predictions, this series will go at least 6

when these two meet, things seldom go as expected. it was only a few years ago that Boston was the number one seed in the east and got knocked out in the first round by les habitants. there's a lot of bad blood between these two this year. even more than usual.

HUGE win by Carolina last night, and Philly had a shot to get themselves back in a shout and fecked off.

Blues fans will be rocking but The Canucks will win that series in 4 or 5

Rangers up 2-0 over the Caps going back to play at home in MSG :D

Lundqvist has been fantastic so far. There's nothing else to say about him except that without him, we wouldn't be anywhere near a playoff team. Ryan Callahan has also been great. At this point he has to be one of the most underrated players in hockey. NEVER has an off game - can score (10 goals in his last 24 games), can hit, plays excellent defensively, and is never afraid to give up his body for the team. Hit 2 posts in the first game and had 2 HUGE blocked shots in the last minute of the first game and then scored the only goal today and again made clutch defensive plays. Can't wait 'til Monday!

They're in the playoffs as the 8th seed playing the Sharks. Up in the series 1-0.

The Bruins are damn good this year about time, can't believe they have been shit for so long. Not shit really, but not big time contenders like this year.

they've had some really good teams since they won the cups in the early seventies but there was always someone just a tad better. cheap ownership and bad general managers took their toll. the current group have really turned things around along with a new commitment (finally) by the owners.

Yeah it's the best hockey town in the US after Detroit, which is fecking unreal despite being an Avs fan, I have been to a few Red Wings games at the Joe with my cousins from Michigan which are great

Bruins 5, montreal 1!! B's lead series 2-0!!

Dissapointing, uninspiring, no emotion other than supid shit between plays which only fuels Boston... we lose one game in Montreal and this series is over.

After the 2nd period in Game 1, our good pressure in the 3rd also... then How we started yesterday, I felt like we had a shot at splitting... even down 2-0, Kovalevs goal seemed to fire the troops... then we fecked off.

I feel bad for Price, he's going to be a scapegoat as it always works in the Canadian media but this was less his fault then the 6 guys who call themselves defencemen.

I would give an organ to have Markov back :(

i hear ya. they gave them a hell of an effort but came up short. they're in bad shape but not done.

That's it,

The rumors going around about the lack of Schneider and Tanguay are full force, the "Upper Body injury" claim seems to be false and now there's a great sense of anarchy within the dressing room pertaining to Gainey... this doesn't bode well for the future with a number of our top players either UFA's or RFA's next season.

This is a result of last years over-achievement, this years team is... I feel sick to my stomach.

perfect time for a clearout...starting with Gainey and his captain...

if someone offers huge money for komisarek, let him walk...bye bye to Koivu, Dandenault, Bouillon, Schneider(let Weber take his place). Keep Kovalev, Tanguay and Lang(if he recovers fully) for the right money. Get TK signed, at least he has balls and can be a solid 4th liner...and for god's sake make a decision who is #1 and get an experienced #2 and trade the other goalie...

100% agree except Koivu, he's still a great leader and contributes well both on and off the ice.

Price has potential, let him have a run of games... too many times a bad string of 3 or 4 games saw him on the bech for a week... not good for development, which is why Huet, Theodore, etc failed with us and are (well, kind of) doing well elsewhere

oh yeah, a change of goalie coach would do wonders...all of those mentioned above fall to the ground too quickly...

and i heard an interview with Fernandez a couple of weeks ago and he said he is seriously considering retiring after this season.

boston's number two, fernandez (who's had a great season), should be available. hate to lose him though.

The number of good goalies in the NHL is amazing, there's so much talent everywhere and most teams have at least 2 players who can start and be confident between the posts.

Caps won handily in game 3. Not really that surprising - they were much more hungry.

I've always been a big fan of Ovechkin considering he's not on the Rangers, but I have to say he did something that I really dislike after game 3. He waited until the Rangers had left the ice, and then he and Backstrom went to our center ice onto our logo and mocked our tradition of saluting fans after a win. Youthful exuberance? Probably. Disrespectful? Definitely.

that makes him a cnut in my book. opponents will be watching for that now and it'll cause some shit, people will get suspended...and he'd better be one of them.

He's on the WUM man, he's got ego that's for sure, something that gives him the edge over Malkin and Crosby is his charisma, grind, and how he'll break the norms and wind-up the media.

He also snuck into Rangers practice and watched before he was escorted out before the game, seemingly getting into the heads of a few Rangers by the way game 3 went about.

Game 4 might just be the best game in this first round.

Just realized there was a thread about this here.

Suffice to say that I'm quite disappointed with how things are going!
