Nhl:08-09

Don't understand how Malkin got away with doing something clearly against the rules which should have led to a suspension for the 2nd straight year in the playoffs because it was born out of frustration instead of malice. As if that makes it acceptable. Last year there was the slew foot on Mara, this year the instigator rescinded. I'm SURE they would have rescinded it if it was some 4th liner. The NHL really is poorly run. Of course, it's their fault that the instigator is in place at all. It really is a dumb rule. But still, it shouldn't be disregarded just because it's a star player in the playoffs.

Anyway, game 4 tonight. I think the Red Wings win it.

Proper post, agree 100%

Minus the last part, I think it's in the stars for Pittsburgh to win this one.

That was a great opening seven minutes no whistles

They needed a quick goal and it would have been different, they got slaughtered in teh second period though

Detroit did to Pittsburgh what they did to Chicago and Anaheim, re-gained control of the series with an all-star performance all around.

Pittsburgh might win game 6, and as tempting as a game 7 sounds, I don't know if it makes a difference.

Wishful thinking though.

What a difference home ice and your best player back from injury can make.

Detroit are a different team at home

It's strange, they do build on momentium and their tactics and such change with the score of the game... with an older team with less leg, they find the right times to use their body and their skates, and it's a joy to watch.

What they've done so well against Pittsburgh at home is this exact thing, in Pittsburgh they know the crowd and the push from their opponents make it tougher, hence why they've not got the best road record these playoffs.

One thing to watch tonight is how well Detoit kill penalties, if they can do it, they win.

Game 7 makes no difference if it happens, I just can't see Pittsburgh winning in Detroit.

Pittsburgh showed great heart but towards the end they looked winded, Detroit know how to use their legs.

One thing I must say is Fleury and Osgood should co-sign the Conn Smythe... sure they have had off-nights, but nights like tonight deserve recognition.

I'm going to watch in Cole Harbour, where Crosby is from and just outside where I live for a good atmosphere, but i'm not rooting for anyone.

It's funny, because in my opinion both are not that great of goalies. Neither have great positional skills and both are very prone to giving up soft goals. But it could be that I've been spoiled by Henrik Lundqvist though..

You said it at the end

My dad made a very good point: Detroit haven't taken advantage of poor Pittsburgh play, but it's worked the other way, and it was evident tonight when Pittsburgh dominated (and rightfully so) the first 2 periods, but Detroit couldn't kill the Pens in the third when they were wrecking them.

For the defending cup champs they haven't looked murderous this series, not even in the 5-0 win did they look like they were guarenteed to win this, they're tired... so are Pittsburgh, don't be shocked if another 2-1 styled game is a result ,both teams have played over 200 games in the last 2 seasons, fatigue is in force.

If i'm a Wings fan i'm a bit concerned, because this series should have been long over and we should be discussing the NHL draft and where Dany Heatley's going

Let's go Red Wings!

Can't believe I won't be able to watch game 7

Maybe if I.. feck, it's no use. I have a very important day on Saturday.. No way will I be able to stay up until 5 in the morning tomorrow. But if I..

Marc Crawford was named the new head coach for the Stars earlier today.. Dave Tippett was fired by new GM Joe Nieuwendyk after just days after he took the job from Brett Hull and Les Jackson.

Crawford won the cup in 1996 but a lot of hockey has been played since and his spells in Vancouver and LA doesn't impress that much.. OK he's teams in those teams(and certainly his no.1 goalie) weren't so good but still his post lock-out coaching has been quite poor. Now it's pretty much up to him to get Sergei Zubov and Jere Lehtinen to sign for couple more years to get the team really going and maybe a move for a big defenceman...

Crawford is a good coach I was shocked when he got canned by the Avs way back when

fecking A dont think Zubov has many more years in him

Well I'm glad this will be out of the way tonight so they'll show more Baseball on my ESPN channel, but I've watched a fair bit of hockey recently, all of the Stanley Cup final, so in the end quite looking forward to this

My short knowledge of hockey tells me Detroit don't lose at home though, so dunno how much of a contest it will be

Would be quite fitting if Hossa ends up regretting those words he said on why he left Pittsburgh and signed for Detroit.

Would be HILARIOUS !

They just showed Cole Harbour place where Sid started and played the first decade of hockey at... it's down the street from my girlfriends place, estimated 1,500 to 2,000 people there in a rink that seats 900... gonna be a huge party if they win.

They have a strange comfort zone they get into when at home, it's hard to break down... their only loss this playoffs came in a Triple OT game

Even game, ALOT of physicality from both teams, Pittsburgh look WELL up for it.

Now the stars have to align...

Sadly Pittsburgh will cave if the Wings score first
