NFL Thread 2013-14

OK, no I idea what any of that means but point taken.

All A grades is 4.0 so it means he got all As while taking some college level classes too. The other part means that of all the people in his high school to graduate that year, he ranked 2nd.

Now we don't know what his test results are but his grades are certainly good enough to get him in.

It's his GPA. They don't usually do single tests in the US do they?

If the grades aren't test results then what are they based on?
Test results is like SAT or ACT in your junior year of high school. Grades and test results are the bulk of admissions criteria. I had a 2.7 but a 34 ACT, for example.

He's clearly a student of the game and far more intelligent than his WWE rants let on. The NFL could do with a few more characters like him.

Tom Brady has pulled out of the pro bowl...again...

I don't actually think Sherman is that unique a character, as far as NFL players are concerned. A lot of players have personal rivalries like that, it just so happens they caught Sherman when he was still hyped and he put it all out there on national television.

We love it when boxers and MMA fighters talk smack, so why the big deal when it's a cornerback?

Do they need a reason to pull out or can they just say they CBA?

Don't know to be honest. It's not compulsory is it? I would expect they are well entitled to say they won't play and leave it at that.

I get the impression he is someone who once the season is over he cares little about anything else football wise except preparing for the next season already. He also said he has no intention of watching the Super Bowl or following what I shaping that evening. He said he is not interested in it in the slightest. Considering that is the frame of mind he is in I'm not surprised he has pulled out.

And Sherman graduated from Stanford? Intwesting...

In Communications ;), a common choice for many athletes and from what I've heard, a very "easy" degree to earn. But he is a smart guy nonetheless.

Anyhow, a CNN guy made this statement earlier...
"Why when a black male goes a bit off the mark (i.e. Sherman), he is called a thug, yet a white male can do a similar act (ex: McEnroe) and suffer no label?
Very intriguing point." to that extent not verbatim

Perhaps McEnroe isn't the best example as he was labelled a brat, a whiner, etc. although those labels do not carry the covert/overt meaning of thug. I think a better modern day example would be Tom Brady dropping F bombs vs Dez Bryant's antics. Or maybe John Terry vs Mario Balotelli.

I hope it's shitty weather in New York. I also anticipate another close Super Bowl. A great defense with a clock control offense against a dynamic offense with a suspect defense. Last few offenses of similarity to Denver were challenged by opposing defenses (2011 Pats, 2010 Green Bay, 2007 Pats) with those games all decided by six points or less. The 2009 matchup between two high-powered offenses, Saints/Colts, was a 14-pt margin - though that swing came on one play - a Peyton Manning interception returned for a touchdown. Those defenses were average if memory serves, though I do recall the Saints producing an abnormal amount of turnovers (and turnovers for score) that season.

Manning's two SB appearances haven't been superb.
vs Chicago, 29-17 win; 25-38, 247, 1-1 (22 offensive points) [Probably lucky his opponent was Rex Grossman, a terrible QB, but vs a top tier defensive unit]
vs New Orleans, 17-31 loss; 31-45, 333, 1-1 [His lone mistake lost the game for his team]

Now if it stays like this then we will have a fun one on our hands

Pretty confident Seattle are going to beat Denver. Seattle have the 7th rated offense overall, versus the 15th rated defense of Denver. The teams that have done well against Seattle are the types with the monster defenses: Arizona, St Louis, San Francisco, Carolina and New Orleans. Those teams (apart from NO in the first game) had the kind of kind of players to allow them to rush the QB without blitzing and really put the hurting on Russell Wilson. Your DBs also need to be pretty good and athletic to recover from busted coverages on the QB scrambles.

Denver have a pretty good defense, but it's not that good. Defensively for Seattle is where the the big questions are. They have the #1 overall defense; #1 pass defense and they are the #1 scoring defense (also #1 on takeaways) and the #1 pass rush in the league. None of that is good for the Broncos.

Now, I'm not saying Seattle are going to stomp all over Denver, but Seattle are going to stomp all over Denver.:p

I think it will be close. Despite Seattle's defensive strengths they just happen to be up against the best passer in NFL history coming off a record setting year, scoring ridiculous amounts of points. Manning also doesn't throw many picks so the Sherman effect may well get balanced by Manning. I think snowy weather will definitely benefit the Broncos.

Yeah, Peyton Manning is great and everything, but if he's going to throw the ball around a lot against Seattle, he better be prepared to walk off with a couple big picks. And I don't really buy that whole weather benefiting certain teams, didn't help Green Bay much, for example.

The perception is that Manning usually struggles in cold weather, and I think the stats back that up. I also think if it snows, that will favour the power running game of the Seahawks as opposed to Manning having to pass the Broncos to victory. That said, Manning is playing so well right now and has so many options, if the OL does enough to hold off the Seattle pass-rush, I don't see them being able to stop Manning in his current form.

Half day of work booked for the Monday, excited for this.
