He’s really sharp. Might be the next big thing. I’d take the young up and comer over Zimmer, the optics of hiring a Pats defensive assistant notwithstanding...
Fair enough. I’m hoping for an offensive mind like Hackett, but can’t claim to know enough about this dude.

Mayo was basically Belichicks voice on the field for a decade for the defence. Following retirement he was then believed to be calling plays when the Pats when they went like 5 games without giving up a TD. Would be gutted to see him leave

Heard lots of good things about Mayo. Would be sad to see him go. Notwithstanding that though, I do also think it might be a gig too soon. If he is as exceptional as it seems, he will have no issues at all getting a HC job somewhere in the future. He might find taking an interim step to a coordinator or assistant head coach role really helpful to dampen the steep learning curve to go into a HC role.

The Broncos need a good and refreshing offensive mind above all else. If they can couple that with a defensive minded HC like Mayo fine, but they really really reaaaally need someone to get the offense together. Although someone like Rodgers might be able to do it on his own probably.

As much as a HC change was important for the Broncos, I still think the issue is secondary to finding a QB. As much as bad coaching hasn’t helped, the killer issue is not finding a QB post Manning.

Whilst I generally agree, this roster should have made the playoffs and would have done with non-shit play-calling and decision making from the sideline.

RedZone and highlights will obviously show you a lot and you’re quite right that we need really an elite QB, but watching full games you so often end up utterly baffled by what the team does on offence.

ST is even worse, if McMahon survives the changes I’m flying to Denver to protest outside the stadium.

Boss you should know by now I watch every game in 40 :) (not that that changes the fact that I’m generally ab idiot )

I would say a better HC would have got you closer to contention to playoffs but wouldn’t say it’s anywhere near a certainty you should be in there. I guess what I mean is, you need both to contend. You could hire the brightest offensive mind but with your QB room there is still a low ceiling for the Broncos. But on the other hand if you’d found an elite QB you’d probably achieve the same outcome as hiring a top HC.

It’s a bit more of a different situation to, say, the Jags. Who can hire a top HC, invest heavily in free agency, and work to becoming a top team with the right moves as they’ve got Lawrence. For Denver, in some ways the road is actually harder because other than a blockbuster move for Rodgers, Wilson or Watson, with the 9th(?) pick it’s hard to immediately see where your saviour is coming.

We definitely need to solve the QB situation. I think we pretty much agree overall tbf, I’m just of the view that the coaching was so goddam bad it was a joke.

We’d have ended with a winning record just by having Shurmur told he isn’t allowed to call passing plays ffs.

There were some hilarious Denver stats which I don’t want to suffer through again showing how inept the playcalling was. Passing it in close games when you have Javonte and MGIII despite the QB pressures allowed being near the bottom of the league…stuff like that.

If I was a cynic or this was my fantasy team, I’d run it back with Lock assuming with that record we’d be within range of drafting a proper QB in ‘23. But you can’t allow that losing mentality to take root in the locker room; we need to do something now.

For sure - and in any case just cos you need a QB too isn’t a reason to not go and find your right HC. I was really just talking more generally about the Broncos in that this is only step 1 of a 2 step process!

Yea totally agree.

If we get Hackett as HC and trade for Rodgers I’m going to explode. Even though Rodgers is a cock.

It’s a good point. On Sunday I was sitting there thinking why the Lions didn’t just bottle that finale and get the top pick. But then today I was reflecting and then I kinda thought, in some ways having the 1st pick means you were the worst team. And finishing on a high must mean something. And, what message does it send if you look to lose a game. Building that winning mentality probably is worth more than that 1 extra spot up in the draft.

I’m starting to think Rodgers may not leave GB now. All the signs seem to be pointing to a much better relationship with the GM now. Who knows though.

I’d go all in on Wilson tbh.

I could live with that too :)
But in all seriousness though, the % chances of either being traded is very very low. Watson aside, which has its own question marks, what do Denver actually do to fix the QB situation? I’m struggling to think of anyone viable at this moment.

No idea really, but they have lots of cap space and good amount of draft capital so there’s scope for making some blockbuster moves.

I’m on the lookout for a second team to keep an eye on. I was always going to watch on with interest wherever Rodgers goes but if it’s the Broncos they could be the team for me. They’re in contention with the Dolphins at the minute as I’ve played a few years at both in Face of Franchise mode on Madden. Plus I quite like the colour scheme

Rodger’s coming out as a massive covid plank has soured my excitement slightly but will be interesting none the less. Unless he stays of course.

@rpitroda - a stat that speaks to game management somewhat imo; if the Broncos flipped each of the one score defeats into one score victories they’d have finished 10-7 instead of 7-10.

If we bring in the right QB and coach we could be one of the most exciting teams in the league again.

Big if though.

Wait for the post June 1 mark when Atlanta can split the cap hit over an extra year for losing Matt Ryan. I think that’s feasible? I’m not in full off-season form so I don’t recall contract intricacies.

Or…odds are one of these QBs even in a mediocre class will become a star, so take a swing at Pickett/Corral/Howell/Strong. Could probably keep the #9 pick and trade up later to get one of those guys. Strong could be the immobile pocket passer that looks great on the next level, a la Mac J. I’m low-key hoping we take a flyer on him.

50% of the top 10 consists of Herbert --> Guyton and Wilson --> Lockett

Not doing a deep dive into the legal minutiae and history of this case, but it means the Broncos will have a new owner before too long. Possibly as soon as this spring. edit: makes for an interesting coaching hire situation.

Come on Bezos, it’s chump change for you.

“Amazon Field @ Mile High”

That's four since Sunday right?

As you say surprised he wasn't sacked earlier.

Anyway Jerry Jones showing his man management skills again by saying if he could find a good available kicker he is would be playing over Greg Zurlain in the play offs. That will certainly fill Greg with confidence when he steps up for s crucial kick

Reminds me of the time he said wouldn't it be great if Dak got injured during the Cowboys 14 winning game steak in his rookie year and Romo would come back in and take us to the Superbowl

Do the owners want to sell then? If so why, out of curiosity?
Well, some of those involved didn’t want to sell; now they can’t block it. The Pat Bowlen trust that he set up to arrange transfer of ownership before he succumbed to Alzheimer’s can now determine which sale is in the best interests of the franchise. It’s a long story...

But this has been brewing for a long time now and it is one of the most valuable sports franchises anywhere, so they already have at least 7 suitors and supposedly not necessarily the ones that have been linked (so no Bezos?). They’ve probably already been vetted by the NFL to some extent so it could move quickly from here.
