Most of the guys on the Dolphins forum I just went on are delighted with the news of his sacking. It kind of reminds me of when Sarri left Chelsea with fans from most other teams being bemused that most of us were really happy about it.
 where did you look? I just did the same thing

I went into one and it seemed kinda 50:50 / 60:40 supporting the sack. Certainly not jubilation or what many expected.

Most seemed to want to see the back of the GM moreso?

Are they? I think they have good skill positions on offence but that D is going to need a revamp due to age and FAs?
Just a joke. They were famously a qb away from contending, when they overpaid for Cousins.

Ultimately, Flores got three years to prove himself and finished with a losing record. There are quite a few other coordinators out there led by Moore, Leftwich, and others who should be in line for promotions. Same with actual head coaches with Super Bowl experience (like Harbaugh).

I mean, I was just judging it by the first few pages on FinHeaven. Since I refreshed the topic it has (unsurprisingly) just added another 10 pages.

  1. Denver
  2. Miami
  3. Vegas
  4. Jax
  5. Chicago
  6. Minny
Which job are you taking as HC?
Would strongly depend on the gm I’d have to work with. Ignoring that and going by roster and resources to build or rebuild, I’d take the Jax. They have their qb, some good picks and cap space.

They drafted the wrong QB and ultimately, it ended up costing Flores his job. The 8 out of 9 wins were largely against weak teams.
While I follow NFL, as a UK fan, don’t watch college games.

Read (at draft and now) that some fans think a big reason Tua looked good was because of the team he played in (quite a lot went high in that draft?) and Dolphins made a poor decision.

Fair?

Why are they particularly happy?

That's fair. He played for a dominant team in college and ended up looking very good in the process. He's an adequate pro-QB, but most Fins fans I know are fuming that they didn't draft Herbert instead. Miami fans are still stuck in the Dan Marino mindset and want a prolific passer, which is why Watson was an attractive proposition.

Flores needs to play a lot of Madden .... Get some basic coaching experience and the guts to go for it on 4th and inches before he tries head coaching again.
I think he has some good points but his lack of basic coaching strategy undermines all of those and more.
Good. Gutless coach who never really prepared his teams in big games. Miami did the right thing

Felt to me he got a lot (not necessarily the most) out of a limited squad and made them compete for a playoff spot, which was good for what he had to work with.

If Dolphins fans are rejoicing the fact that he's fired I think they are in for a rude awakening. They don't have the roster they think they do if they believe they should be doing a lot better than 9-8.

In fairness most of it was in the hope that it meant Harbaugh was on his way in.

Think he nails his last three picks.

I'll go with Rodgers/Brady for MVP (honestly can't decide and think it'll be close), Cooper Kupp for OPOY, TJ Watt for DPOY and Chase for OROY.

Agreed. Rodgers should take MVP, although I could understand why Brady would win it given the amount of injuries the Bucs have had to persevere through this year. Watt has to win DPOY. There's a decent case for Waddle or Chase to win OROY

Found the ex-offensive lineman. Creed did trade out spectacularly well for a rook OL, according to PFF: #1Center overall.

Waddle looks a superstar a QB like Watson throwing to him and with the set up Dolphins have they would be a play off team for certain.

I've seen talk of Tua linked with Pittsburgh which I'm not sure world be a great move for either side.

Someone like Russell Wilson could be better fixed to take Pittsburgh further

Seems like the owner had to decide between the GM and the HC. Flores wasn’t happy with the drafting and personnel moves. Front Office didn’t like the offensive coach hires. Synergy between GM/HC is so critical. Edit: Flores is rumored to have poor relationships with some of the players as well, namely Tua.

Flores automatically moves near the top of the coaching candidates line, along with Quinn, Harbaugh, Pederson, etc.

How do KC get a ridiculously tough schedule 2 seasons in a row?

The only saving grace is that teams fluctuate in the NFL, maybe some of the teams that were good this year will be bad next year and vice versa.

NFL scheduling formula has division winners playing other division winners intra-conference, second-placed sides against second-placed sides, and so forth. The 17th game now adds another prior year equivalent for inter-conference play. This is in addition to playing six games within their respective division, a four-game slate versus an intra-conference division, and four-game slate versus an inter-conference division.

Am I right I’m thinking that if that game last night ended in a tie the AFC playoffs would have been

Raiders at Chiefs
Chargers at Bills
Patriots at Bengals?

Because they won their division. Also this season is the NFC west which is tougher than the NFC east draw they had this past year.

That and being paired with the NFC West.
Yeah I added that as an edit because it’s an important factor. Try being in the NFC West!! Although AFC West is no joke either. 49ers first trip to our old neighbour’s new stadium, I might have to plan a trip to Vegas for that. Although I have 4 weddings and a honeymoon this coming autumn so not sure I have the time or money for that

was hoping we’d play Washington in Washington since it would be much closer to home now for me but oh well

This decision is surprising to me. I think he did about as much as you can do without a QB.

That shouldn’t be a reason to sack him this early though (drafting the wrong QB).

Yes, many fans see Grier as the problem. Also, Watson's interest in Miami seemed to be tied to Flores, so they may wind up having to get another QB if they decide to ditch Tua.

Yikessss.

A fairly useless stat given that Kupp is playing and the Rams are in the absence of Woods, over-reliant on Kupp at a time when their other receivers aren't producing. OBJ has basically been the same OBJ we saw in Cleveland and Shawn Jefferson's kid is a 50/yr catch guy. The important bits are did he win his division, did he lead his team into the playoffs, is he capable of passing for nearly 5k yards, 40+ TDs, and at a rating of over 100. He's shown over the course of the year that he's capable of all of the above. Still throws too many picks, but that can be worked on for next year.

McVay needed his get back guy yesterday to keep him out of the end zone
I know him and Kyle are good mates apparently but hard to think Kyle isn’t really in McVay’s head.

I presume Donald and the other Rams no longer even try and pretend they don’t know who Deebo is. A great player and father, great to watch him play ball with his kids.

Cowboys will be a fun game. They have some game winners but far from unbeatable. 40 years ago today was the catch!

Damn, 40 years. I vaguely remember watching that live with my pop on TV.
