NFL 2021

It's been quite the season for the Raiders off the field.

Ruggs booked into court on a charge on DUI. Hard to see how he can avoid jail if he was drunk as well

Ruggs released last night. No fecking around by the Raiders... nor should there have been.

Still don't get his thinking. Guess we humans often think we're indestructible or let's save some quid or whatever.

Call an uber, call the team (they provide transportation for this scenario), get a hotel room. Something.

Been reading a few news articles:

Ruggs lost a childhood friend, Rod Scott, in a car accident in 2016, and Ruggs pays tribute to him by putting up three fingers -- Scott wore No. 3 -- to the sky after big plays.
And when I lost him, it was just like, I can’t stop now.” Ruggs even has a tattoo of something Scott used to tell people: “I will do something great. I will be something great.”

So he lost a close friend to a car accident and goes on to commit DUI. So much for going on to be something great.

Also:

The Raiders, who do offer car services for players who might need them and have a player engagement program that warns players of such risks, didn't wait for the courts to act, sending out a brief statement Tuesday night announcing Ruggs' release.

Well handled by the Raiders, shame he didn’t avail himself of their car service the prick.

Yeah he’s just a moron. Even an Uber. Anything. And never knew of that history - which makes this even more stupid - you’d think above anyone he would be most alert to not getting behind a wheel if he has been boozing.

Yeah fair play to them, why mess around.

Still cant get my head around the crash, mustve been huge speeds involved.
Definitely crazy that the cars could have gone up in flames like that. I work at a company that crashes cars and the fuel tanks and electric systems are really well protected generally. As you say, the idiot must have been really moving to cause a rupture to the tank or electrical system that then caused the fire. Can only presume that the crash knocked out the woman or prevented her from being able to exit the car by damaging the doors meaning she was trapped inside when it burnt.

The context of his friend dying, the club providing car services, Uber... madness. And he was just starting to show his value on the field too. Makes me so bloody angry

I don’t know why but this incident has particularly upset me in terms of making me angry. It’s such a waste of a young life which should have been avoided. And I think what’s particularly bothering me is the “backstory” for use of a better word. I am one to get vested in things like this, but even then, I feel particularly aggravated by this. His backstory, his access to alternatives, his wealth which means he has access to alternatives regardless of what was already on a plate for him from the Raiders, the fact he was travelling with his GF which also means that there was twice the chance for one of them to recognise what they were doing … like I said, I can’t shake the stupidity of this one for some reason.

The woman’s dog was apparently killed in the crash too :(

The pictures of the cars at the scene are mind blowing, he was clearly going at an utterly ridiculous speed.

Ruggs will get a slap on the wrists and back on an NFL roster in 3/4 years time.

That Vette probably acted like a giant wedge with its low front end slamming the engine block under that Rav4, right? If cars can act more or less like a weapon, that thing is an assault rifle. I’ve driven orders of magnitude more than anyone should, and I’d still be on my toes the whole time in a Vette.

That aside, if I was making that bank I’d have a driving service on hand even if I was not drinking or getting high. Especially in Vegas, which has to be one of the easiest cities in the whole got-damned world to have a professional driver haul you around in a Benz at any time.

Depends... if its a more modern Rav4 then there's just as good a chance that it hit one of the high voltage batteries used for energy recovery or something. Those things can absolutely go up and due to the chemistry are next to impossible to put out once they go.

My love of driving would mean I could never give up driving for a chauffeur. But - this driving service thing you mention - firstly you’re right, I can imagine it’s pretty easy to set yourself up in Vegas. But importantly, he had convenient access to this anyway. The NFL arrange this for every single player for these situations I believe. If not, the Raiders had this for their players anyway. So you’re either that drunk that you’re not thinking straight, or you’re that dumb that you’re not thinking straight. My problem / particular annoyance in this particular case is that in all likelihood it’s option one - and If it was a normal chap who’d done this, don’t get me wrong it’d still be horrific. But Ruggs had access to these things and had, it seems, been affected by this exact thing in the past. Which means more than anyone else he should have been alert to the risks of this. It’s just beyond stupid.

Yeah its infuriating. Having your own chauffeur service when you are out and about at night sounds like a dream..

Fecks sake. This whole season was about Kamara holding the fort until Thomas got back. It must be so gutting for him. He's only played in 7 games since the start of the 2019 season.

Some interesting points made on Twitter re: the timing of the announcement, less than 24 hours after the trade deadline has passed. I don't think we're seeing him back in a Saints uniform.

Also regarding the car service, it's not just the Raiders who provide that to their players. The NFL PA provides such a service to any NFL player, 24/7 every day of the year, to avoid drunk driving.

Maybe a young inexperienced player does not want to use the service drunk at 4am out of fear that the team gets a hold of the situation, I dunno.

Timing of the surgery was also suspect. He isnt happy about something, how long has he got on his contract?

Signed a 5-year extension in the summer of 2019 so 2024 I think. Not sure what the cap hit, dead money and stuff like that would be.

This week has been a fecking train wreck in terms of NFL news. Derrick Henry, Jameis Winston, James Robinson, Danielle Hunter, Henry Ruggs, Michael Thomas, now Aaron Rodgers, ...

Jones and Dillon will run the show again

I was just looking forward to getting Devante Adams back in my lineup..
Also you forgot Noah Fant has Covid.

This is why you draft QBs in round 1 - you just never know

From a business and PR perspective, the Raiders are going to come out of this pretty good. They get to ditch the salary and recoup part of the bonus of their first round pick who hasn't exactly been a world beater (50 catches and 4 TDs in a year and a half is mediocre at best), and apply the money elsewhere, all the while appearing morally righteous in cutting him.

With the Chief’s seemingly stumbling could the Packers continue the hurt with a back up quarter back? As a Packers fan I hope so but will be a good chance for the Chiefs to get back to winning ways.

Not sure why he's certainly out already? He's vaccinated, meaning that he could test negative on Thursday/Friday or Friday/Saturday (or even Saturday/Sunday?) and still play in the game?

If he's not showing any symptoms, that is.

Well they have largely wasted a high first round pick on a player they picked ahead of Justin Jefferson, Ceedee Lamb, Jerry Jeudy, to name a few. Nobody wins here.

Still, he then went on to say "it's a personal decision and I'm not going to judge those guys", i.e. his unvaccinated teammates. Either he was straight up lying or he is indeed vaccinated and can still make the game.

Very strange. Already officially ruled out so guess he's not vaccinated after all.

Ok Brady is the goat now guys. Trump is better than anti-vax.

They wouldn't be compensated for making a the wrong pick, but at least they would get back most of the money and cap space to invest elsewhere.

Don't know what the line for that game was an hour ago but Chiefs are now -7.5 favorites

I was just thinking the OBJ to New Orleans links make so much more sense now in light of the Thomas news.
