This is the juncture of the incident apparently.

I'm guessing the only "mitigating" circumstance could be if the woman in question was also partly at fault for the crash, e.g. she ran a red light or something. Not sure how it works in the USA / Nevada.

That kind of speed though, coupled with being impaired. Maddening stuff.

Theory might make sense if he’d hit the side or something. But very unlikely if went into the back of her car. If she had enough time to turn and straighten up, Ruggs would have (theoretically) seen her earlier.

Either way it would be horrific if what you say is true and it even mattered.

fecking cnut. feck him the piece of shit

Absolute menace. His best friend died in a car accident. His table had 18 shots plus drinks. The more details that come out the angrier I get at the kid. Going 156 is fecking INSANE if you are sober let alone at 340 in the fecking morning. That poor girl burned to death because he wanted to be a reckless piece of shit. I hope he gets no less than 15 years, but given our corrupt system who the feck knows.

Packers are likely going to get fined big time for this, and rightly so. Apparently he has not been observed following any of the unvaccinated protocols so yikes.

Really dumb that action only gets taken after he gets Covid and not before even though the league knew he was unvaccinated and wasn't wearing a mask on the sidelines or at press conferences.

Also, he should 100% be suspended for 1 game after the 10 day window is up and no I'm not just saying that cause his 10 day window ends one day before the Packers play the Seahawks...

Per the NFL:
Probation is not an option in Nevada for a conviction on a charge of DUI causing death or DUI causing substantial bodily injury. Both carry a possible sentence of two to 20 years in state prison. Added to a possible one to six years for reckless driving, Bauman told Bonaventure that Ruggs could face up to 46 years behind bars if convicted.

Looking at the accident scene, looks more like Ruggs' struck the front of the other car as the RAV4 does not appear to show rear damage whereas the front shows massive damage.

Yeah indeed. It's the sum of the following 3 things:
- DUI resulting in death (max 20 years)
- DUI resulting in substantial bodily injury (his girlfriend) (max 20 years)
- Reckless driving (max 6 years)

And it could even be higher if they charge him for having a (loaded) gun while under the influence of alcohol.

Per the NFL:

I'm probably going against the grain here, but a 46 year sentence for his crime would be overkill. A lengthy prison sentence is of course needed, and he should lose his right to ever drive a motor vehicle again, but to imprison him for the vast majority of his remaining life seems almost vindictive to me.

Driving at those speeds is plain idiotic. He should get the book thrown at him. I've never understood the fascination with speed. He could have driven at 60 and made it home comfortably, absolute clown.

Don't disagree, and of course he probably won't get such a lengthy sentence either.

A prison sentence should not only have a retaliation/retribution purpose but also a restorative one - society gains nothing by locking someone like him up until retirement age. You do want to set an example to other potential offenders though, and imo DUI is such a dumb, self-centered and reckless thing to do that the punishment even (or especially) for first-time offenders should be high enough to deter future offenders.

I’m going to disagree. I watched a friend slowly die from the inside after a drunk driver killed his brother. His parents lost 2 sons that night. feck drunk drivers, there deserve, and should receive, zero mercy.

That's awful, and of course the sentence needs to act as punishment for the crime, a serious deterrent to others, and provide a sense of justice to the people that are left behind. I do think that can be achieved with much less than 46 years. Depriving Ruggs of the chance of having any kind of meaningful life ever doesn't help anyone, in my opinion. But it's obviously not a hill I'm willing to die on.

For comparison, I just checked the longest ever sentence given for drunk driving in my own country. 4 years, 6 months for a very similar case (one person dead, 200 km/h, alcohol and drugs involved). That's on the completely other end of the spectrum - ridiculously lenient.

Fair enough. I will acknowledge that I am completely not rational about this point.

The circumstances in this case show a man who had little care or concern for anyone, himself included. Maybe if he expresses sincere and genuine remorse for the VICTIM (and not his situation) I could be moved, but right now I have zero pity for him.

Amazed that Ruggs suffered minimal injuries, his car’s entire front end looked crumpled in to the windshield.

In terms of actual football though, a pretty boring TNF match up this week
What are you talking about?

- Is Mike "The Animal" Wright a true future HOFer or just a flash in the pan?
- Michael Carter breakout happening, new Alvin Kamara has arrived?
- Jets also have a CORNERBACK named Michael Carter, who's also a rookie (just crazy isn't it?)
- Carson Wentz "Reviving my career" tour on live television continues
- Michael Pittman Jr is the new DeAndre Hopkins
- How much more TDs can Mo Alie-Cox catch while averaging 2 targets a game?

... Okay yeah it fecking sucks, damnit. Especially after Packers vs Cardinals last week.

It’s particularly annoying cos it’s the week where it kicks off at half past midnight rather than half past one - still unlikely to have stayed up even with the extra hour, but if it was a really good game like last week I might have considered at least watching some. But no, alas, it’s this dross :(

Michael Carter is an undersized flash in the pan; you should sell him now in fantasy while his value is high from the hype especially if you are in the Caf dynasty league

I'll take him if you have him in dynasty :D

Edit - I got white texted :(

FFS I was so ready to fight you on this before I scrolled down the thread

I offered Barkley to someone in return for Carter and 2 first round picks in my dynasty league before his big game last week, and got rejected :(

Any other game would've been better and they choose this one for TV.

Colts/Jets must have been an entertaining game judging by the score.
Not really. Wright left end of first / beginning of second Q and game was completely one-sided after that, think the Colts were up 30-something before the Jets finally got a little closer, but never a tense one.

Jonathan Taylor is so good, I know the Jets rushing D sucks but still, makes it look so easy.
