Disappointed in BB for not playing Butler in the second half. He's not been at his best but his replacements were missing tackles that Butler would make. Could have changed the game. Was sure we'd win but then the strip fumble and....Yeah. Not gonna even bother complaining about them changing the catch rules just for this game.

Genuinely wept.

We did it. We finally did it.

GO EAGLES !!
Fly Eagles fly!

Just got back from centre city. Broad Street rocking. Philly is nuts. America is nuts. What a night, everyone I passed in the street screaming feck Tom Brady

You can't be world champion if there's no worldwide, or at least international, tournament. That doesn't mean you're not the best team in the world. You can call your tournament what ever you want it doesn't change that.

If Dublin called themselves World Champs after winning the All Ireland they'd be laughed at. It's not even up for debate. There's no world tournament. The "world champions" title is non existant in that case. "Best in the world" and "world champs " aren't the same- Greece were European champs in 2004 and weren't the best in Europe. The "well it can be assumed" argument makes no sense. They're NFL champs. That's enough and a wonderful achievement. No point giving it a fake moniker.

Apologies for triple posting but I'm back from the celebrations and over enthusiastic

Oh man I feel asleep at half time and this is just great news to wake up to

I will never understand why there were so many Pats fans today. I'd love to know the link between choosing them other than glory.

Hell of a SuperBowl.

Didn't see the classic shot of the two quarterbacks meeting in middle after. Did Brady really feck off away rather than congratulate Foals?

Brilliant SuperBowl.
Can't speak for every one but I've now seen the Pats lose more SB than win since I chose them as my team in the 2007 SB against the Gaints. It'd be like if Utd only played in the CL and the 1st game I watch in the sport is the CL final between us and Chelsea and happen to choose Utd.

I like Brady and can recognise his greatness, I kinda see them as the United of the sport too. That team everyone loves to hate etc.

Irony is most our fans in here will scoff at fans of other clubs when they come out with all kinds :wenger: about united but will then do the same against NE, who are practically the Man Utd of the NFL.

Don’t get the whole Butler thing. I wonder what happened.

Yeah I want to know what happened there. Rowe was largely useless & I would have brought Butler in for at least 1 drive to see how he would do.

Gilmore to his credit had a good post-season.

Now that I’ve had a few hours to gather my thoughts after the big game, just want to share them and decompress on a variety of topics; if you’re interested in listening cool, if not just scroll away no biggie :)

1.) Congrats to the Eagles. Very well deserved as they were the best team in the NFC, kept fighting through adversity, and now they are/were officially the best team in the entire league this season. Loss honestly doesn’t even feel all that bad since I’ve seen the Pats win so much it’s no biggie and more like meh, we came up short.

2.) Undeniable that Pats SBs are always instant classics. Never a boring game that’s for sure and this one was no different being very entertaining from beginning to end.

3.) Lets be clear, the Pats defense lost this game. Brady put up the GOAT QB performance in a Super Bowl being the only ever to throw for over 500+ yards (505) and had 3TDs to go with it - also the first QB ever regular season or playoffs to put up that stat line and lose a game. This loss does not effect his legacy at all and if anything only adds to it with the performance he had. He also exceeded 10k alltime post season yards in today’s game. First team to not punt in a SB. First team to lose not punting in a SB. First team to lose any game every with over 600 yards of total offense.

Pats had 613 yards of total offense, did not punt all game, and still lost. Philly’s 538 yards were the most ever surrendered by a Pats defense under Belichick, 537 being the previous mark which was set by KC in the week 1 matchup this year. To put into perspective: Chiefs had 65 plays, 8.3 YPP, 26 1st downs, 42 points, and Smith put up 368 yards+4TDs. Eagles had 71 plays, 7.6 YPP, 25 1st downs, 41 points, and Foles put up 373 yards+3TDs. Started off bad and ended bad. Eagles also scored on 8 of their 10 possessions.

4.) Just want to address this but the whole Eagles underdog thing although a nice story was pretty overblown which I said from the get go. They didn’t go from Brady to Hoyer or something drastic like that. They went from Wentz to Foles and say whatever you like but statistically speaking, Foles actually did better than what Wentz did. So yea although Foles doesn’t have the big name of Wentz, if you look into it the Eagles were just as good (actually better). Not taking away from the Eagles or anything but just wanted to mention that.

5.) Benching. Butler. Today.

Not an overreaction but simply put it cost us the Super Bowl. Yes BB is the greatest coach ever and I trust in him 100% (In Bill We Trust) but he got this one completely wrong and what a bonehead decision it was. To make matters worse, it’s an ego thing too wanting to do things his way...if you watched The Two Bills documentary, you’ll get what I mean by an ego thing / that certain arrogance he has with decisions like this wanting to express his power and let everyone know he’s boss and in charge. He’ll even go to the enth to make a point and he fecking did it today and completely backfired. Honestly speaking it could only backfire as there was literally no positive that could come from the benching.

For starters, Butler has been our best defensive player for the past 3 seasons. Sure this season his play dropped but that may have been psychological with Gilmore getting paid and the Pats not committing to him. A common misconception people have is after the SB INT he road the glory but football fans will know the following year he was a top10 CB and balled out to prove he wasn’t a 1 hit wonder nor would he let 1 play define him.

This is especially bizarre considering Butler played 97% of all snaps this season. 0% in the Super Bowl. K.

Something just doesn’t add up and to be quite honest it’s just Belichick and he shot himself in the foot today. Butler is a dog and he fights on every single play. Even if he gives up a catch, he’s our best tackling CB. If you watch him, you know one of his best attributes is breaking up the play in midair even when a WR catches the ball aka he forces incompletions of should have been completions. Seeing Rowe get toast in the 1st half by Jeffrey, I could only imagine the impact Butler would have had as there’s absolutely no way he could have been any worse than what we had out there today. At times safety’s would be in coverage to matchup against their WRs. Just doesn’t make sense and really the only thing I’m frustrated at - it’s weird, sad, confusing, heartbreaking, and fascinating, mixed emotions really. Foles was what, 10/14 on 3rd down and had half his total yards on those conversions?

The fact Rowe said after the game that wasn’t the plan is absurd. Even if Butler did something wrong (which I’m 99% sure he didn’t), you don’t bench your best defender the entire game and in the fricken Super Bowl. 1 play, 1 drive? Sure, take it. The entire game? Feck off, now you’re taking the piss. Whatever it is, you put that shit aside and don’t pull an idiotic move like this and address it after the game.

Even Browner sounded off on it

And I wonder what some of the guys on the team feel? If you’re Tom Brady, what are your thoughts on very much having missed out on your 6th ring at age 40 while you’ve poured your heart and soul into this game because coach decided to bench Malcom Butler for no apparent reason leading to the worst defensive showing by a Pats BB team ever on the biggest stage all as you put up the best QB numbers ever seen? I’ll tell you what, if I was him I’d be pissed off and have questions I’d demand answers to.

Worst part is, BB doesn’t have to address it if he chooses cuz he can just say well I’m Bill and the greatest and what I say goes so blah blah blah but that’s a fecking cop out and inexcusable for the decision he made today. I love Bill to death but this sort of wreaks and has a sour feel to it. I really really really hope it wasn’t a move to flip off ownership or anything like Parcells did in the past considering the rumours of turmoil between him and Kraft revolving around the JimmyG decision. And at the end of the day, you want to win or lose with your best players on the biggest stage. Just can’t wrap my head around this decision. Makes zero sense.

6.) Gronk, Amendola, Hogan all balled out. Each had over 100 yards receiving. Gronks 2 TDs also made Brady-Gronk the highest scoring TD duo in playoff history surpassing Montana-Rice. Cooks out early was a big blow but it is what it is and didn’t really matter as I’m not sure Brady could have more yards than he had without him today anyways hahaha.

7.) Defense needs an overhaul. Don’t take Brady for granted anymore and stop experimenting and expecting him to cover up certain coaching decisions *cough cough* or cheaping out. Be like the Broncos when they went all in for Peyton knowing he could be done any day now as Brady can too. Having Hightower back will be huge in itself but not enough. On the flip side, having Jules back will make the offense more explosive than it already is.

8.) Call the national guard in Philly. Some of the videos there are just insane

Completely disagree with the underdog point. Easy to compliment foles in hindsight but most people including eagles fans didn't expect us to win a playoff game after the Wentz injury. The funny thing is that a lot of experts kind of knew before the SB that Eagles were definitely the better team player by player buy very few had the guts to bet against patriots in a SB

Collinsworth and Michaels were terrible, as someone rightly pointed out earlier in the season the NFL catch rules are made even harder by the fact that the commentators who are paid to explain them can't understand what is happening half the time. That Ertz TD was a clear one and yet they behaved as if the sky had fallen

World Champions debate?
I didn’t think I’d ever say it, but can we discuss whether Brady is the best of all time or not please?

He’s not the best of all time

He’s the greatest of all time ;)

(Anyone who bothers debating is clueless btw, literally no point or discussion to be had hahah)

@JP77 @Rado_N

Remember when the patriots lost?

:lol::lol:

That’s where the logic comes in. If city win the league, the CL and go on to win the club World Cup they’ll be known as the best team in the world. The NFL is SO strong that it negates the need for any competition that determines the best when pitted against other countries/continents. Whereas in football Europe will always have 4/5 extremely strong leagues in different countries.

You're talking so much shit it's verging on impressive.

Tbf, the best basketball/baseball players from around the world play in the league nowadays; but agreed, they should just call it the MLB Series & NBA Finals
That's true. Them calling it world champions isn’t something that bothers me that much. Was just pointing out that it is not solely an NFL thing. I can see both sides of the argument.

Crazy what a game Pederson called, coming out of the gates no safe running plays . Just let Nick foles free, cantc remember anything like that against the patriots ever

Brady can't win without a defense. Just like everyone else.

Everyone watching the game with me wondered why they needed to double check that TD. It was clear as day.

Think it’s impressive they even got so far with the defense they had. That was just not a good unit. Not at all.
Benching your best defender doesn’t help, though.

I honestly think that could be the end of the Pats window. Brady simply can't defy time for much longer, rumours about Gronk retiring, Butler will be leaving for definite now, both coordinators gone, incredibly weak linebacker core minus Hightower.

Brady has covered up a lost of weaknesses for a long time.

Really enjoyed the game. Part of me wanted Brady to drive it home with two minutes to go but Eagles managed to knock the ball out of his hands for perhaps the moment of the game. Eagles really deserved it though, some great plays and they just went toe to toe with the Pats.

I think what stood out was Foles maintaining it al the way. Last years Super Bowl the Atlanta quarterback faded.

Mike Carlson on the BBC has some yellow teeth for an American I noticed.

Both him and Belichick. Let's not forget that before tonight the Patriots defense was among the best in the redzone. Brady had wide open targets all night.

I don't think it's the end though. Brady is still good enough, and Belichick is still Belichick.

I wonder what triggered the Butler benching decisions. To leave a guy out that had played 97-98% of snaps all season is baffling.

He denies it was over anything disciplinary. Seems it was just one of those Belichick decisions where he thought one player was more situationally appropriate than the other.
